I can not possibly write the review this restaurant deserves but i will try. Everything from the minute we walked in until we left we perfect. The hostess Ali was so kind and even though we came on a Friday at dinner time didn't make us feel awkward for not having a reservation and was able to quickly accomaodate us. The restaurant was busy but you would never know it because the service was impeccable. We asked for suggestions and were very happy with the guidance we were given. We have the wedge salad, the cacio e pepe and the fench onion short rib. Each dish was amazing! We haven't stopped talking about our experience there and i can't stop craving the pasta!!!! Food was tasty though I was not wowed by it (I had the Canadian mussels as an entrée - mussels were ok, accompanying fries were nicely seasoned and crisp). The burger ordered at our table was substantial in size but lacking in cheese requested. Service was slow though our waitress did apologize for some of the shortcomings and comped us for the wine that was ordered that did not come until right before the dinner was served. This gem of a restaurant is easy to find and has plenty of available street parking. The place was nice and empty at 5:30 pm on a cold, winter Saturday evening, just after sunset. We dined in a four-season sunroom with round wood chairs and ceiling fans, and the tables were spaced far apart. The chair I sat in was relatively small, so I felt uncomfortable. We sat right next to a wood burning stove that radiated heat right on to our table. I am so glad that I was wearing a short sleeved shirt; otherwise, I would have been sweating. The drink, dinner and dessert menus are eclectic. Some dinner menu choices: pâté with Dijon mustard, marinated red onions and toast points; Bucatini Cacio e Pepe; corn-crusted oysters with fresh corn cream sauce to Pecorino-crusted codfish with a zucchini cream. Jazz background music was playing as waitstaff served customers. Patrick, our waiter, provided impressive service by promptly serving us sourdough and olive dinner rolls and hard butter. He also continuously replenished our water. I had the oysters for a starter, and the Apfelkuchen for dessert. Both were decent. My dining companion, Yelper Lisa A, had the roast Scottish salmon and the peanut butter mousse in a chocolate cup. She also had a cocktail. The entrées took at least 20 minutes, but the desserts came out in less than 10. Thanks, Patrick, for verbalizing two pronunciations for Apfelkuchen (apple cake). The "ch" is pronounced "sh" or "k", depending on the German dialect. He was knowledgeable, friendly and unpretentious. Prices were "Hamptons like". For example, the oyster appetizer was $17.75. I know of other restaurants on the South Shore that charge significantly less for similar oyster starters. This place is good for date night because of the open, airy and fun atmosphere. Had a lovely meal there last night with a friend. There was plenty of seating and I was told to choose a seat that I liked. They brought out some really delicious homemade bread. The staff didn't make us feel rushed at all. They brought us menus and the wine list. They have a nice selection of wines. They also have a full bar. I came here with a fellow Yelper , Gail. I arrived first and was greeted by a very welcoming waiter Patrick. He told me to pick anywhere to sit , so I choose seating close to the wonderful wood burning stove. I was very comfortable and toasty next to the stove but then again I'm always cold so this was perfect for me. The menu is on their website , you can scan the QR code or go right to the site to the menu section. I ordered the salmon and peanut butter mousse. The salmon was fresh , there was a thick layer of aioli on top which I scraped most of it off. The lentils were a nice addition to the salmon but just a little too lemony. The peanut butter mousse was good with the chocolate shell. The mousse was light and not too thick. My drink , apricot fizz, was very tasty, which I enjoyed. It was made with Bombay sapphire fine, apricot brandy and topped with soda, on the rocks of course. I was comfortable there although my friend got too hot near the wood burning stove. I enjoyed the waiter and his cordiality to us. He even took the time to teach us how to pronounce the word Apfelkuchen. Which him and Gail had two different ways of pronouncing it. Gail did order the apple cake but didn't care for it and changed to the apple cobbler which she enjoyed. Patrick presented us with a check minus the price of the desserts. That was very kind of him. A group of 8 friends went to The Bellport Saturday night, 2/01/2025, as part of my birthday celebration, before attending The Addams Family at The Gateway Playhouse. We specifically chose this restaurant because the menu on it's website offered 2 vegan options on the menu. Yay for me! We got there at 5 pm, when the restaurant opened, and were promptly seated at a lovely round table. So far, so good. But the menu only showed one vegan option, and I was told that the other was removed because it wasn't selling. No problem, the meal I really wanted anyway was the Vegan II - Warm Thai peanut noodles, with tamari roasted tofu and green beans tossed in ginger wild mushroom pesto, so I ordered that. Shortly after taking our orders, the waiter returned to say that they had run out of tofu, because two people had already ordered it. Seriously? They only had enough tofu on hand to satisfy two orders? The waiter left to see what they could do, because there was nothing else on the menu that I could eat, and the chef said he could substitute grilled zucchini for the tofu. Okay, acceptable in that it was something I could eat, although I was disappointed that I wasn't getting the protein I was hoping for. The meal was, indeed, well-prepared and delicious, however, running out of tofu at the start of the evening on a Saturday night is not acceptable. read more

I started off with a cucumber martini and I get it's mostly vodka but wow I couldn't even drink half of it a bit toooooo strong for my liking my friend agreed! We started off with corn crusted fried oysters with a corn cream sauce! First time I had fried oysters and if you know me you know I love them! I enjoyed the corn cream sauce it was delicious the oysters were perfectly fried and crispy for my entree I had the mussels and forties with a garlic aioli, I wasn't impressed there was no sauce to the mussels and it was very bland, the French fries were crispy and well seasoned. My friend got the shrimp with polenta and free beans! The shrimp were juicy, cooked perfectly and good flavor. I wouldn't come back but the scenery was really nice. read more

Went to The Bellport for the second time within a week. First time was 5 stars this time not nearly as good. We had The Bellport pizza for an appetizer and it was dry and very disappointing, fortunately we were given a credit for it. My other guests had bass and black pepper pasta and both were excellent. Great.... The Bellport is as good as crowned royalty to the local community and for good reason. Young and always friendly staff give this place the extra boost. Dessert that rivals others as well as interesting options for your meal. Handwritten menus and other details give this place a unique edge. I'm not a big fan of the drinks as we had a chocolate martini and a glass of Malbec. The Malbec was one of the worst I've ever had which are hard to come by, and the martini wasn't much better, it's wine selection and bar skills I suppose. The owner is super kind, super friendly, and always finds a way to live on the lighter side of life, giggling at things, and enjoying the precious moments in the restaurant. The food is always always fresh and the prices are in line with the portions and food quality. I haven't ordered anything I could push away before I've gobbled it all up. We got a special that was similar to the regular item dish (linguini and clams) but the special menu said chopped clams, only to be served the full she'll and clams on top of the pasta... It was fantastic but not really what the menu indicated, at first glance we were a little worried as its not our cup of tea but these were really well cleaned and super fresh! It was a great dish with lots of garlic. Bringing me to the next dish during our recent visit, another special of course, the hand written menu mentions poached garlic which is the only downfall of this dish being that there was absolutely no garlic in it... The pappardelle in a lemon yolk sauce was outstanding! The pancetta was high quality and melted in my mouth. It was tossed with arugula and asparagus, and supposedly poached garlic. The dish tasted great! That lemon yolk sauce really enriched the whole thing so well. The molten lava cake has been on that menu since I was a kid and I don't see them doing away with it, ever. We got it simply so we could pair it with the homemade icecream (eggnog last night was our choice) Servers always around and decently attentive, super warm and eclectic inside, is all I can really say. Love going to the Bellport! Stumbled upon it about six months ago, and come here every couple of it! The food is always consistent and always excellent. Service isn't always the best but they have a young Turkish girl that helps the waitress who is so so sweet and always helpful, I don't know why they don't make her waitress! She is more attentive than the waitress they have. But if you haven't been here it is definitely worth a stop because the food is always fresh and they have wonderfully surprising things on the menu all the time. I had one of the vegan dishes this weekend and it even surprise me it was so delicious- The stuffed zucchini- excellent! Haven't been to The Bellport in about 10 years but I remembered it as a kind of unique place with a laid back relaxed atmosphere. My wife and went for Sunday Brunch and not much has changed! Arrived right at noon, place was about 1/2 full. We were met by a young man named Patrick who seated us, was also serving as bartender and our waiter. I have to say he seemed to be handling things fine! He made me a beautiful Bloody Mary and a nice Mimosa for my wife. The Brunch menu is very inventive and people rave about the Buttermilk Fried Chicken but we were in the mood for breakfast so I ordered the Crepe of the Day which was Strawberry and my spouse opted for Eggs Benedict! Everything was wonderfully presented and delicious, the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. Service is slow but we were in no hurry and it occurred to me that Patrick was also acting as chef! Three of us stopped in here for dinner around 8:00 on an unusually warm Saturday night in March and the place was packed. So packed, the steam on the windows made me wonder whether I had mistaken the restaurant for a day spa. Eventually, the owner opened up some windows so the customers could breathe, but that's not why I'm suffocating on 3 stars. Bottom line here is that the quality of the food, while good, didn't jive with what we paid. 3 appetizers, 3 entrees, 3 drinks and a relatively cheap bottle of wine somehow brought our total damage to $250 before tip. Here's the breakdown: 1 draft beer 1 vodka on the rocks 1 glass of white wine Green salad Beet salad Corn crusted oysters Shrimp and linguine with pesto 2 orders of braised short ribs 1 bottle of Saintsbury Pinot Noir Considering the bottle of wine was only $48, the rest of what we ordered should not have added up to $200. The "signature" corn crusted oysters were okay, but for $12, they should be giving out more than an infant could palm. I think I counted 6. The beets on the beet salad did not taste the least bit fresh. I'm guessing they were canned, or else cooked and/or stored improperly long before they were served. My braised short ribs were fork tender, but just a tad dry. Same goes for the mashed potatoes. This minor snafu could have been easily rectified with a simple pour of au jus or red or port wine reduction. I got a taste of the shrimp with linguine and pesto and it was delicious. Heavy on the garlic, but that was no problem for me. As for dessert, we should have asked for a steak knife to cut through the white chocolate crème brûlée, though I'm not sure that would have even done the trick. The top layer was as thick as the wall Donald Trump talks about, and the custard was melting faster than the visa applications he would deny as president. I would go back, particularly considering the limited restaurant options in Bellport, but I really wish they would do away with the tacky handwriting on the menus and join the 21st century. The food prices are steep, but in fairness, that $48 bottle of wine we ordered retails in the low $30s, so the mark-up on that particular bottle, at least, was very reasonable. read more

The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the fact that Anne Hathaway was sitting right near the doorway. Yes. Anne Hathaway. (Apparently she lives in Bellport for the summer and dines here quite often). Anyway, moving onto the actual restaurant. Ambience is super friendly and cheerful. There's this lovely atmosphere with quirky artwork and a beach-home vibe. There's a bar area right near the entrance and quieter seating areas surrounding it. Service was so nice, and when I talk about service, I don't really mean the waitresses (they were alright, a bit slow for my preferences), but the owners of the restaurant. We talked quite a bit with the lady who owns the establishment and she is such a charming person. So caring and adorable! She really made us feel at home during our dining experience here. As for the food - it was good. I'd consider it comfort food style, with a fancier twist. The presentation of all the dishes was on point. Everything looked like a masterpiece. The quality of the food itself was decent. Bread - sourdough and olive with butter. Sourdough was delicious and olive was nice and savory. Both were fresh. The butter was hard, but it tasted pretty good. Fried oysters in corn sauce - wow. I love oysters but I had never tried them fried until now. Delicious. And the sauce was fantastic. Smooth, creamy, and with a hint of sweetness from the corn. It was a lovely contrast to the crispy-on-the-outside oysters. Swordfish with mixed vegetables and plantains - swordfish is a tricky fish to perfect, and the one I had here was a bit too well-done for my tastes. The flavoring of the sauce was great though. It had a nice tomato base and was the perfect amount of tangy. The plantains were my favorite. Cooked to perfection and flavored quite nicely. I could have eaten like ten of those. Veggies were also a delight - the olives were a bit too salty for me. Buttermilk fried chicken - A bit dry for my tastes and a little lacking in flavor. The gravy was amazing though. Highly recommend dipping the chicken into the gravy; it makes for a lovely combo. White chocolate creme brûlée - lovely crystallized sugar top. The creme underneath was a bit too cloy for me, although it was textured so amazingly (smooth, fluffy, rich - all at the same time). Blueberry cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream - SUCH A FANTASTIC DESSERT. The homemade ice cream was unforgettable. It was so smooth and creamy and so naturally flavored. Didn't taste artificially sweet at all. Imagine a scoop of that over this warm cobbler...oh my goodness it was fantastic. The crust was layered over the cobbler part, and separated the ice cream from the blueberry mix. I thought it was quite an ingenious way to present the dessert and it actually enhanced the dining experience (in terms of the logistics that go behind eating a cobbler). The crust was to die for. I'm such a crust person and it's what I use to evaluate if a pie is any good or not - this one succeeded. Overall, a great experience. I will remember this place because of the friendly atmosphere and the laid back vibe. read more

We finally decided to try this place out and couldn't be happier. If the Sage Cafe in Blue Point is a college frat boy, The Bellport is what happens when that boy grows up, sees the world, gets some culture and makes good. It has the same eclectic vibe: non-matching tables and chairs, odd pieces of art (or, should I say, "objet d'art"?), paintings. But they all somehow work together and create very warm, cozy and friendly vibe. Upon entering through a small vestibule, you immediately enter the main dining area. A nice-looking bar stretches along one side. Re-purposed porches make additional dining areas on the eastern and western sides of the building. The hostess greeted us and sat us right away in the "west porch". She seemed very friendly and jocular which clashed with an earlier, negative review. The joint rapidly filled with what seemed to be a well-heeled, older crowd so we were happy that we had made reservations. The menu is NOT handwritten though the daily specials are. I honestly don't understand the previous gripe concerning this. I might agree if it was as illegible as a doctor's handwriting and was scribbled on a used cocktail napkin but the presentation was honestly fine. I mean, it's a non-entity. I only felt like I needed to bring it up because I was expecting some travesty of penmanship based on the previous review. I can't believe I spent this much time writing about it. Let's move forward, shall we? We ordered the pâté to start. After being disappointed by the pâté at Le Soir (allegedly a bona fide french resto) I wasn't sure what to expect. But the Bellport really hit this one out of the park! Made fresh on premises (per their menu), the pâté was generously portioned and came on a bed of lightly dressed greens wi/ small wedges of cheese (unremarkable but tasty nonetheless), little, garlicky pickles and some really good dijon (though I would skip this as it masks the natural taste of the pâté too much). Crunchy, toasty bread rode shotgun. I could have eaten this all night. I could have sat there and ordered plate after plate of this stuff and earned the nickname Pâté Boy. But there were other delicious things to eat as well. For the main course, we both had the duck. The breast came perfectly cooked, moist & flavorful. I think we were accustomed to the l'Orange preparation so it wasn't what we were expecting but it was excellently done nonetheless. A crispy confit leg accompanied the breast. I enjoyed this immensely and had to restrain myself from grabbing it with my mitts and going to town like I was at a wing-eating contest. The only knock is that it was EXTREMELY salty. I could feel my blood pressure rise with each, delicious mouthful. But hey! That's what Avapro is for! For dessert, we had some sort of bread pudding. It was tasty but fell short when compared to the other courses. The only uncool thing is that it seems they charged a sharing fee for the dessert. I could be mistaken but the dessert was supposed to be $6 and the bill listed "2 Afters. $12". Since this resto is a bit on the pricey side, I can see how a sharing charge might be expected. But for dessert, it seems excessive, especially since the patrons (us) didn't really skimp on anything. But no matter. Lesson learned. I do have to say that the waitstaff BUSTS THEIR COLLECTIVE ASSES. The busboy was constantly running bread, refilling water and clearing tables. Our waitress was very pleasant, attentive and also running around at a pace that would make Speedy Gonzalez hopped up on amphetamines seem positively soporific! My wife wanted to hire her for her store. Thank them for their excellent service by leaving a comparable tip. Though I stated the restaurant is a bit on the pricey side, it's still not very bad at all and is a great value for the quality of food and the ambiance. Dinner for 2, including a bottle of wine and the sharing fee for dessert was about $130. This would be a nice place to commemorate an event, bring visiting relatives or go for date night. That being said, this is assuming your date is someone you are married to or have been with a while and are past the initial stages of wooing and courting. Though the ambiance is funky, fun and and cozy, the place is LOUD. This is no good if you're still trying to get to know the person across the table from you but is perfectly fine for when things no longer need to be said.
