Despite being American royalty in the roaring 20s thanks to F. Scott's novels and Zelda's heady celebrity, later in life things went downhill. F. Scott died of a heart attack in 1940, while Zelda passed away a few years later in a hospital fire. With little money left in the estate and the tarnished reputation of their final years the Fitzgeralds were not immediately given a grand burial. F. Scott was quietly buried here. When Zelda passed, she was interred directly above her late husband's body. It was not until years later that a proper headstone was installed for the couple bearing the final words from The Great Gatsby: "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." However, I have heard parents complain sending kids to Montessori is a waste of money because it's just a name to sell the school. So, not all state-approved Montessori programs have good quality of education. So being aware not all schools are the same, I toured 3 Montessori schools: Lone Oak, Manor and the Woods Academy. I found the Lone Oak Montessori on AMI website and Woods academy on AMS website. Manor was recommended by other parents and it seems to be a popular choice when it comes to Montessori preschools in Bethesda area. I took my 3-year-old son with me to all the tours and he loved the Woods the best because we were allowed to walk into the classroom and had very brief interactions with the students and teachers, to observe and also play some toys in the classroom while parents were talking to the director, Mrs. Gerber- who is very knowledgeable and experienced about Montessori programs and part of the reason we chose Montessori is because of her expertise and experience. After the tour, my son wanted to go back the next day because the classroom was just so fun and interesting for little kids. My son is happy every day and cannot wait to tell me what he learned in school. The teachers encourage independence, good manners, trying new things/food, healthy snacks, and creativity. They are caring and loving but also very firm when giving instructions. My son learns new things/facts each day and not just merely playing with expensive toys. For instance, he came home one day start singing "The family of the Sun," and talked about all the facts he learned about planets and I was amazed. And three weeks later, he started to learn the sounds of alphabets and try to read! The teacher told me she would advance any student if s/he is ready so there is no need to wait till 4 or 5 to learn how to read. The other pluses but not major factors are- 1) facility, it's a school so it has it's own gym, music/art classrooms, library, and playground. It's very spacious, clean and well-maintained. 2) it has PE, music and art classes once a week for 30 minutes. The school has a very strong art program. 3) faculty and staff are very friendly and they know student by names. I felt that students are given a lot of attention because of its small classroom size. The only downside is the tuition. It is about $2K more than other schools I checked/toured. We've been happy with our choice and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good preschool in Bethesda. This Sunday was the Corpus Christi Processional and Blessing in front of the church at the end of 9:30 am mass. The activity was a very spiritually uplifting event for the members of the church. This congregation's base membership is the family's of the children attending the Holy Cross Catholic School. The children regularly participate in many religious activities here. My grandkids were part of the Christmas concert. It was such a great crowd pleaser. The children are also regularly asked to go up to alter as a group for special spiritual messages during the sermon. If socializing is very important to you there is always coffee and donuts after the 9:30 am service. There is also the friendly well wishing by the priest as the congregation exists the church. This Sunday the school's music director made a direct appeal to the families for new people to join the church choir when it resumes in the fall. If you are looking for a welcoming church where you can meet new families, make new friends in the community and receive spiritual support and guidance you might want to give Holy Cross a try! I Google searched "Presbyterian church" and found/chose StMarks because it was closest to my hotel and ultimately a relatively cheap Uber ride. When I visit a church it's mostly for me...provides me some food for thought through the minister...get my mind right for the coming week. Very rarely do I think "I wish this were my home church". First time in 20yrs, of business travel and going to church...the thought "wow, I wish this were my home church" crossed my mind. Why is that? Their service is the perfect blend of a traditional Presbyterian worship service (a lot of standing up and siting down, which I've always liked) while sprinkling in the modern, the minister that day was female, something I rarely see and talked about welcoming the LGBT community to Christianity in general. They have an organist! My home church doesn't have an organist ! They have not discarded traditional hymns, which frankly made me emotional because it has been so long since I've heard them during a worship service( literally music to my ears). They didn't have a choir but that's not unusual. They did have someone leading the music, and the words were projected onto a wall. From the traditional to modern the music here put me in the right frame of mind. The message the minister offered was thought provoking which gave me something to ponder the rest of the week (as I conducted my business). Lastly, the congregation was super friendly and welcoming. There were those in the congregation who came from the front area (i sat in the very back row) to give me "a sign of peace"...and I'd be remise if I didn't acknowledge all the others who welcomed me before the start of the service. It was truly an awesome visit and reminded me of all the good things I recall from going to church during my childhood and at the same time made me realize that I'm not after all a very good example of being a Christian...something I need to work on. This is my first ever Yelp of a church and I'm doing so because I got all I needed here, spiritually, I was at peace when I left and thought it was valuable from a visitor point of view to share the uniqueness of this congregation. At that moment, I realized I wanted to keep that spark in her as long as possible. So when it came time to choose a kindergarten, I knew I wanted more than our local neighborhood school and standardized testing. Enter Green Acres School, a hidden gem that focuses on outdoor play and creative learning - a school that would build a solid foundation for these early years. The atmosphere at Green Acres is warm and supportive from the moment the kids hop out of the car at drop-off. The staff respectfully engages with the children, giving them a voice to grow into independent thinkers who advocate for themselves. When the school recognized that my daughter was excelling academically, they adapted to her needs while keeping learning fun and engaging (and have done so with my son, too). She's eager to go to school every day and, to her father's and my irritation, even cried during a Disney World vacation because she missed it! That love for school isn't typical, and I attribute it to the outstanding teachers at Green Acres. I also want to highlight the fantastic work of the new head of the school. Under her leadership, the school is making great strides while staying true to its values. Teachers, staff, and administrators at Green Acres did not seem organized and lacked the social-emotional skills and training to support students of varying academic, social and emotional abilities. They were quick to blame individual kids for systemic issues at the school. Classroom management was poor, and outside time for middle school kids is not monitored as it should be, both of which leads to highly unproductive behavior among the students. For parents interested in Green Acres, you should ask many questions about classroom management and overall supervision. In addition, we highly suggest you ask about the school's financial standing (income statements and other financial information) and how the school plans to address the loss of income from lost rent related to the Diener School move. Finally, we suggest that interested parents talk with doctors or others who know a lot of school aged kids. The problems at Green Acres are well-known in these circles. There are many great public and private schools in Montgomery County, and we highly suggest that you look elsewhere. We did, and we are thrilled with our child's new school.

Andrew has been a mentor, a parent figure to my boys who were dealing with the loss of their primary caregiver, providing care, love, guidance and emotional support. The love he has for his role and ALL of the kids at KAH is unmatched. He always eased any nervousness I had in the beginning when my boys started Explorers, assuring their safety. I could go on but I will stop Lilly the former Director at Rosemary Hills also welcomed my kids with gentle arms, a big smile, a soft nurturing personality, I truly miss her and wish her the very best, she was truly a blessing to us all!! Their little sister who is 3, adored Lilly and can't wait to say good morning daily to Andrew.
