I'm writing this for my non-Yelping boyfriend who liked these guys so much he made me write a review. He needed to put the contents of his studio apartment into storage...a week before his lease was up. Lakeview Movers was able to help him at the very last minute. They were friendly, quick, efficient, and very affordable. He doesn't have a car and was planning to take a cab to/from the storage facility. The movers offered to take him to the storage facility...and then they gave him a ride back home! Awesome customer service. He plans to use them again when he brings his things out of storage and into a new apartment. read more

I was feeling pretty anxious and desperate when I turned to Craigslist in my search for movers (after having contacted multiple bigger moving companies, whose rates and minimum time requirements didn't match what I was looking for). Shawn's ad immediately stood out from the rest because it linked to his yelp page- hooray! I am forever grateful for this means of getting the real scoop, and think it's a great idea for smaller companies/laborers to have a page that sets them apart from the sketchier folks on Craigslist. The glowing reviews were right on the money! Shawn and Eden left my apartment less than a half hour ago and I'm happy to give them another great review. My move was as below: -From a 6th floor apt with an elevator that leads to the back alley to a 3rd floor apt with no elevator, approx 2 miles away. -One medium sized sofa (3 cushions across), 2 ottomans, 1 dinette/breakfast table for two, and 1 very tall bookshelf Not too much stuff, and Shawn quoted me a $120 flat fee for two movers and his pick up truck. Though it's not necessarily INexpensive, compare it to big companies, who charge an average $90/hr for two movers, with an avg 2 hour minimum and $45 travel fee. I think I got a great deal, and if I had paid much less I would have worried that I was exploiting some hardworking folks. Shawn and Eden were about 20 minutes late- they did call me at 4:05 (moving time was 4p) to let me know they would be here soon. I was slightly annoyed, as I would have preferred a heads up before 4p, but can understand that that's not always possible. They started working as soon as their feet hit the ground, and the whole move lasted from 4:20-5:15ish, under an hour! Shawn and Eden were personable, quick, and careful with my possessions. They knew just how to angle my stuff so it fit into a teeny elevator. They made sure everything was tied down in their truck so nothing would accidentally fall out or anything. They also let me ride back to my apartment with them, which I appreciated a lot. Four stars for the obvious reasons- they only have a pick up truck, and no insurance. No packing materials are provided, so wrap your own sofa/mattress if you're worried. But I would definitely recommend them for smaller, simpler moves like mine! A few things to keep in mind- always offer your mover some water! I was so surprised to hear that I was their third move of the day- and the smallest by far, it seems- and the first to offer water. And, try to build in as much flexibility into your moving day as possible, so that you aren't overstressed when the unexpected occurs, which is all too likely to happen. I would say 99% of movers don't enjoy being late to their next job, and 99% of the time it's not their fault- the office folks offered misleading estimates, a service elevator went bonkers or a reservation was screwed up, the previous customer underestimated the amount of crap they had, etc. I have found movers to be some of the most hardworking guys around and on the receiving end of a lot from stressed out customers, and it shouldn't be that way. We were referred to Shawn and Lakeview Movers through a close friend who had hired Shawn for his own move (on a side note, the elevators were broken that day and they carried large furniture down a narrow flight of stairs)... My first impression was good--he quoted us a very reasonable price to move an over sized couch, loveseat and ottoman from the south loop to Lakeview. Shawn called to let me know he would be ten minutes late due to traffic (which was fine since I was about fifteen minutes late due to the same bad traffic). They patiently waited until I arrived at the storage unit. Shawn and another guy, who was also very friendly, and quick, moved the couches with care and repacked the storage unit which was filled with fragile items such as glass vases. Once they got back to my place, they were just as quick and careful carrying the items up to my condo. The entire time, Shawn was friendly, professional. personable, and just an overall good guy. I specifically asked him for a card and told him I liked to leave Yelp reviews when I have good experiences. So we just moved again, and it was a mess. Sure, I was much more prepared this time -- items in boxes and whatnot, but I have a lot of stuff. The person I live with has tons of magazines that he refuses to get rid of. In a nutshell, we did not want to be bothered by our own shit. I'm a single girl, my family lives in another state, and I needed the contents of my tiny apartment moved from one apartment to another on a limited budget. Kyle, Ryan and Lakeview Movers came through for me. First and foremost, these guys are awesome--if I've ever met anyone who epitomizes Midwestern kindness, it's these guys. Both Kyle & Ryan were awesome and immediately I trusted them with all my worldly belongings. They handled everything beautifully and didn't leave anything behind that I didn't ask to be left behind (this was not the case with another Big Name moving company that I used last year). I will set this expectation up with any of you interested in using Lakeview Movers (which Kyle did with me as well). These guys are NOT typical "Big Name" movers--they have a pick up truck, and it may take them more than one trip if you have a lot of crap. Fear not, though...they will quote you flat rates for the initial trip as well as a subsequent trip. What they lack in gigantic trucks, they more than make up for in their kindness, their efficiency and the value you receive. If you have anything bigger than a 1 bedroom apartment, they might not be the guys for you--but if you're a single gal like me, they are PERFECT. I would gladly recommend Lakeview Movers to anyone I know who needs a simple move done, and will more than certainly use them again in the future. I found Lakeview Movers on Craiglist and called, not sure what to expect. Shawn was incredibly friendly and professional. I told him that I was moving out of a studio apartment, and had a bed, loveseat, desk, dresser, and bookcase. He asked how many boxes I had and I had to confess that I had no idea, as I was still working on packing. He quoted me $170 and we made an appointment for 12:30. On the day of the move, he called around 9:40 am and said that another client had cancelled, and asked if I'd like to move my appointment up. That worked for me! We arranged for 11. He showed up right on time with another guy and his truck. They also had plenty of truck blankets, plastic wrap, dollies, and other professional equipment- this was not two guys with a truck trying to make some extra cash, this is a professional moving company. I showed them the furniture and said that if they had extra room for the boxes and other stuff, that would be awesome, but that really if they could just take care of the heavy furniture, that would be fine, since I could come back and get the rest in my car. And since they had a pickup truck instead of a huge U-Haul type truck, I didn't really think that much would fit. Boy, did they prove me wrong! They fit almost my entire apartment in the back of that pickup truck. It was like watching Ultimate Tetris. :) They stacked and fit boxes and furniture and random crap together, but in a way that was very secure and made me totally comfortable. They had it down to a science. Then they padded everything with blankets and strapped everything down with bungee cords. There was no way that anything was going anywhere! When we got to the new place, unloading was quick and easy. They were really great about asking where I wanted everything. Overall, it was a really great experience, and well worth the money. They were both super friendly and respectful of my belongings, and they went above and beyond to make my move a much less stressful experience! I would definitely recommend them. :) read more

I needed a couch moved pretty last minute for my new place and was worried I would be stuck renting a truck myself. Lakeview movers to the rescue! They set something up for the same weekend I needed and charged a very reasonable flat fee for a piece of furniture. On the day of I got a call from Kyle saying he was stuck in traffic but was on his way. I was too stuck in the same traffic so truly appreciated this. The couch ended up being much larger than we thought and we had issues getting it through the door. The movers very patiently took the legs off the couch to get it through the door. They were also kind enough to give me a ride to my place as I didn't have a car and planned on catching a cab. I can't recommend Lakeview Movers enough. While I didn't use them for a full official move, if ever that time comes I know exactly who I'm calling. read more

I called to ask for a quote for a move. Once I told him I just need to move a couch, he was really short and rude with me. I thought he was just going to hang up. He said "We only do studios and one bedrooms, thanks for calling". I asked him if he knew who might do that kind of work he said " I dunno man, we are artists and musicians, we don't hang out with other movers". Listen, if you are going to run a business you might want to be a little more professional and courteous to people who call for quotes. Just because you can't help me now, doesn't mean I might know a friend in the future that is looking for movers. You don't post an ad on Craigslist and then act like it's some big bother when someone calls you for information. The reviews do not lie! These guys are great. I was also a little hesitant when we contacted them and were told he only has a pick-up truck and no insurance. They were also a bit late, but that's how it goes at the end of the month when everyone is moving, so I understand. We weren't under any time-crunch so it wasn't a big deal. Shawn and two other fellows arrived and were SUPER fast. They got everything we wanted them to move in two trips, which included two beds and a sofa, alongside around 30 boxes and two large bookcases. AWESOME JOB. Shawn and his crew saved us a lot of trouble and money when they moved us this month. I found them on Yelp in a panic when I found out that I needed to be out of my apartment 5 days earlier than expected. Having never used a moving company before, I was a little nervous about the process. After getting an almost ridiculous quote from another company (they told me a price that was higher than a month of rent), I called Lakeview Movers at the last minute hoping they had an opening. I explained what I had to move and Sean was extremely helpful. I tend to wait til the last minute so I wasn't sure how many boxes I would have. He helped me to estimate the amount of boxes I would have and gave me a quote. The quote included moving my two couches to discard to the dumpster for me. The day of the move, Sean texted me to let me know he was on his way and he came with three guys, all of whom were super nice and made it a point to introduce themselves and say hello. I was amazed at how fast they were able to move all my furniture and boxes out of my fourth floor walk up apartment so we could take it to my storage unit. You could tell that they worked together often because they almost had a rhythm to their moving. Since I don't have a car, I got a ride with them and while I filled out what seemed to be endless paperwork for the storage unit, they got to work unloading the trucks and moving my stuff into the unit. They actually finished everything up before I was done completing paperwork and were ready to go once I had everything signed and ready to go. Sean walked back to the unit with me to show me how everything looked and helped me lock up the unit. The whole process took about 3 hours and the friendly attitude of all of the movers definitely helped me to feel less stressed about moving. read more

I e-mailed Blake requesting two movers to help unload moving truck on a Sunday morning for two hours. He replied that my truck was too big and they only will unload a 16foot truck or smaller. I explained to him that the truck was only going to be half full and we really only needed help with a few large items such as sleeper sofa, dresser, etc. The rest we could manage on our own. Nothing is worse than moving, except doing it twice in a 18 day span. Luckily Lakeview Movers was there and awesome for each of my two moves. Used them for a fairly large move the first time around (bookcases, dresser, bed, boxes) and they magically fit it all in their pickup truck safely. After a minor snafu with my bed, they did a second run for free and were even willing to pay for the tool (luckily I found one at my new place) They got everything out and in under/around 1.5 hours and were totally friendly and engaging even though they had probably been moving people for 8 hours already. Second time I knew I would use them again and I had to call on short notice and Sean was very accomdating and kept in contact when some minor schedule changes came out. Had two different, but great movers help me out and they got it all out and in around an hour and even assembled my bed for free! Great team of awesome dudes who are friendly, like your older brothers friends or really helfpful neighbors. Yes, they might not be "professionals" but considering how much they do for a cheap price and are upfront with the "less professional" aspects (no insurance, pickup truck) and that you get to talk to some pretty interesting people during your move, it's a really great deal. Excellent customer service, extremely reliable and great communication. Shawn and his friends are some of the most reasonably priced movers in the city and they get the job done quickly and effectively--great for moving furniture items. Extremely personable--furniture came into my new apartment exactly in the condition it was prior to the move. I would definitely recommend them, but cannot give them 5 stars because of the following caveats: 1) they only have a pickup truck with no roof--if the weather is bad, you could be screwed--or the move may not happen. 2) they don't have insurance. I found the perfect apartment. Now I had to figure out how to move all my things there. Yikes! Jessica C. referred me to Shawn and his crew, Lakeview Movers. Whew. Shawn was great! He quoted $140 me based on what I told him: ~15 boxes + furniture, 3rd floor to 1st floor, new apartment was about a block away. He charges a flat rate and has his own pickup truck to get your stuff from point A to point B. After 3 1/2 years in my old place, I realized I had WAY more shit than I anticipated. I called Shawn a few days before to warn him and he told me it wasn't a problem, but he would have to charge more. Exactly what I expected. I lucked out! They had an extra guy available the day of my move and since I didn't know ahead of time - there was no extra charge! Awesome! Once they arrived and got to see the massive stacks of boxes, Shawn updated the quote. I was nervous, BUT it would only be an extra $60! OMG! Shawn and his crew were outstanding! They were courteous, friendly, careful and quick! My move was flawless. What a relief! Shawn even told me it was their pleasure to move me and that I was a good packer :) Aww! In short: 3 great guys + pickup truck + 3 hours = $200 + tip. I kept them hydrated with frosty beverages and, of course, I fed them when they were done. Be nice to your movers :) read more

Shawn is a naturally humble guy. I found Lakeview Movers on craigslist and was soon after talking to Shawn to schedule my move, I of course asked if he had referrals. He directed me to their Yelp page: "Well you can never please anyone 100%, so they aren't all 5 star reviews...". He was right, they weren't all 5 stars, but he had a 4.5 star average rating! That's nothing to be ashamed of. When I brought Shawn into my apartment to go over our game plan, he thanked me for actually only having the items to move I told him about beforehand over the phone. And he also constantly expressed worry and hoped it wouldn't rain so my white couches would not get dirty. In all, Shawn is what I imagine I would be like as a mover: courteous, and hard working. Both him and Kyle did a hell of a job. The flat rate was pretty good to. I moved a 1-bedroom for $180. I will definitely be recommending Lakeview Movers to all my friends in the future. I'm so happy that I chose these guys for my move. Shawn was extremely friendly and we had a few setbacks b/c the people we were buying furniture from did not put a booking fee so we couldn't use the loading dock. Shawn though, still did the move, and would take furniture through the entire garage to the street, which I'm extremely grateful for. We moved 2 sofas, a bed, a bookcase, a tv stand, desk, and some other small things from a high rise building (w/ elevator) to a second story apartment from streeterville to edgewater. I called and emailed Shawn about unloading some furniture for me. Since it was just a set of couches, he quoted me a $50 flat fee. I called Shawn the day before to lock in the date/time and he was very professional on the phone. Shawn and his friend showed up on time and clearly were knowledgeable about maneuvering furniture in/out of odd spaces. They protected my furniture and brought their own pads to protect the floor. Kyle and Logan from Lakeview Movers were hard-working, efficient, and so polite. They were also so patient and accommodating to my requests to move furniture around a few times, since I wasn't sure of the best layout for my space. The only thing I wished is that they brought shrink wrap with them for my drawers, etc. But overall, they helped me to move quickly and successfully with no damage. The movers scratched the walls of the lobby and hallway walls during the move, as well as walls in my apartment. I was invoiced from my building company $185 for moving damages, since they had to plaster & repaint the walls. I called the head of the company Shawn and he just told me, "We are not insured....there's nothing I can do". Do not use this company because you might just be slapped with a huge bill for moving damages that they will not take responsibility for. read more

I am still in shock after seeing Shawn and his buddy/moving partner move a full-sized standard couch up 2.5 flights of steep, spiral stairs to my new apartment in absolutely RECORD time, as though it were no more cumbersome than the cushions they brought up on the second trip up the stairs. They had a really great attitude, and I could not believe their energy and cheerfulness, especially since they said they had been doing moves since 10am, and this was literally 12 hours later, sometime after 10pm. Seriously, I can barely WALK up these stairs, and they moved this couch in what could not have been more than 2 minutes. They were also really chill about the obnoxious Cubs fan in the alley behind their truck, honking like an a-hole as if it would move things along any faster. I told them that we could just bring the cushions up ourselves if they wanted to get going because of the honking a-hole, but they very kindly said it was no problem, and ran the cushions upstairs too. Would definitely (and probably will) use them again. So efficient, SO worth the $60 to not have to transport and move that couch. read more

First of all, THESE MOVERS ONLY HAVE A PICK UP TRUCK WITH NO ROOF. I booked Shawn for a pretty simple move 3 weeks in advance and planned my entire move around this day/time. To preface, it was a rainy crappy day in Chicago, a miserable day to move. 1.5 hrs before Shawn was supposed to move me he called and said he was running an hr late because of the weather and then he said "You know I only have a pickup truck right?" I said, no you never informed me of this absolutely CRITICAL information. He said that I could cancel and find someone else. SERIOUSLY??? It's May 31st at 2:30PM the BUSIEST DAY OF THE MONTH FOR MOVING. And he wants me to find someone else? After this absolutely ridiculous phone conversation I was completely up in arms and stranded. Luckily, I found movers (by the grace of God) and had to pay an incredible amount more for the last minute favor, but I had no choice. I understand that you can't control the weather, however this company MUST tell its customers that THEY ONLY HAVE A PICK UP TRUCK WITH NO ROOF and verify that this is a risk you are willing to take. It is a huge risk to book these movers because if it rains/snows there is a good chance your property could get damaged. I'm sure they do a fine job when the weather is nice but when you're scheduling your entire move around specific day/time you cannot take the risk of weather inhibiting your plans. I obviously would not have taken this risk had I been told they only had a pickup truck with tarp and bungee cords. read more

Shawn is seriously the nicest, hardest working, most honest mover I've ever dealt with. Hired him to move a couch I bought on Craigslist. He showed up right on time, moved it to my place, and when it turned out it wouldn't fit in our freight elevator, he stayed until we figured it out, without once hinting that he'd charge extra for the unanticipated delay. So, artists as movers. They didn't have to tell you, so why is this a good thing? Well, for one, Shawn seems like a guy who wants to work with really good people he likes for the long haul. Hyper-efficient, great attitude, creative problem-solving MOVERS who happen to do other interesting things they will tell you about if you ask, when there's time. Another reason it's a good thing is because the artist/mover combo seems to lead to a mellow, low-stress personality WHILE jogging your stuff out the door at a controlled warp speed and discovering the extra cabinet you forgot to mention. This mattered to me because I started with another moving crew, Type A Personalities 'R Us, who were unpleasant and snappish (but high-rated) when I signed on and unpleasant four days later when they called to inform me that they had booked over my appointment through the rest of the month and it was all my fault. As it happened Lakeview Movers was my next panicked call, and it was exactly what I needed. I got the impression that Shawn MIGHT lose his cool during a natural disaster, but I don't think moving fazes him much. Trust me, by moving day you will have enough stress for five people; mellow movers are your friends. Other positives: If you are in a studio or maybe a one-bedroom, they can probably get everything you own in that pickup truck in one load or they will possibly die trying. (Alternately, you might be out about $60 for the second run and they would be out some extra time; apparently nobody wants that.) It is best to give in to the pick-up truckness of it all and accept that apparently they don't screw up much, or the rating wouldn't stay this high. I tried to stay away from the loading end of things until it was almost done, and that's probably a good thing; you don't want to see the jenga/bungee problem-solving until it's done. (Creativity! THIS is why you want artist-movers!) My stuff tends towards the bright-colored and plastic, so my load wound up like the Grapes of Wrath had migrated direct from Oz. But everything arrived without a scratch. There are not many services I have used that make me think "I am going to stay with this company every chance I get," but Lakeview Movers is absolutely one. read more

My roommate used Shawn for his move and highly recommended them so I gave them a shot. I had just bought 2 couches and thought that I could just rent a uhaul and grab someone to help. To my chagrin, nobody who I tried to enlist was able to assist me in my afternoon move. I remember Shawn and gave him a call about 5 hours before I was supposed to show up to move the couches. Shawn was super nice and said sure, and was there right on time at 2 to move the couches. Even though we were only traveling 3 blocks, they had the couches moved from apt to apt in less than 30 minutes. I recently moved from Chicago to Berkeley, and used Lakeview Movers to load my two "relocation cubes"/pods in Chicago. Pros: Super friendly, available at short notice, flexible schedule Cons: EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF FURNITURE ARRIVED SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGED. I'm talking broken legs off of ethan allen chairs, broken rosewood bookshelf, scratched antique dresser, scratched bed frame, etc. I like these guys personally. But professionally, I can only believe they do not know what they're doing re pods. I think it would probably be fine to hire them for an in-town move, with a truck you're driving yourself. But dang. They didn't secure anything within the pods, failed to use the rope I had out for them, failed to use the furniture pads I had on top of pieces I wanted protected. When I told them about the problems with their packing, I was told, "I'm sorry to hear that. I thought we packed everything safely." Which is the problem. The guys on the Berkeley end were much more professional, and brought me out to the pod so i could see the damage before they moved anything. They confirmed the story my furniture told: these guys did not know what they were doing when packing a pod. read more

I just finished moving my furniture with Lakeview Movers, and my experience was excellent. Sean (Shaun?) and his team were exceptional. My apartment had enough stuff to necessitate two trips, which made the move a little over $300 (easily $150 cheaper than any other quote I got, and HALF PRICE of another highly-rated Yelp moving company). I got a text saying that the movers were running a bit late, which wasn't a problem for me at all, and within 20 min. of the estimated start time the guys were hard at work. It's clear they have a lot of experience getting furniture into and out of weird spaces; I was concerned about getting a queen-size box spring up a curvy third floor walk-up, but for these guys it was no problem! However, Lakeview Movers went above and beyond by taking over some things (boxes, a lamp, a floor fan) that I had planned on moving myself. The guys were really personable and friendly, and cracked jokes - all while moving some pretty heavy stuff. When it started raining during the move (the truck bed is uncovered) they moved at lightning-speed to get my furniture under an awning, so it wouldn't be sitting in the rain while they moved each piece. I already plan on having Lakeview Movers help me move my new couch later this summer, and I would highly recommend them. read more

Made my move a breeze: moved from a studio to a one bedroom (still in Chicago- about a 15 minute drive). I had several pieces of large furniture and lot's of heavy boxes (full of books). They were very cheap- only set me back $220 + tip. Easily 100 bucks short of my next lowest moving estimate. I would highly recommend them. They were courteous and prompt... These guys really helped me out. They came on short notice and moved lots of heavy furniture down three flights of stairs. There were a couple nicks and scratches but its Chicago and the building was old with narrow stairways...it was to be expected. They were great. read more

This was probably the easiest move of my life. They were so nice and completely professional. I couldn't believe how fast they it was. I set up the move a week before I was supposed to move and the process was super smooth. The last time I moved I hired one of the "big" companies who arrived an hour late and then charged extra for time. This was the opposite experience. I highly, highly recommend them! read more

I actually haven't used them for moving service. I am disappointed because the reviews were so high. So I talked with one of the guys over the phone. I followed up with an e-mail, as they requested. I never heard back from them. I called a few days later. Sent texts, called the number on the voicemail and then 8 days later someone got back to me. I know it is a busy time but every other company got back to me way quicker than that. They almost left me in a bind with no movers. So they might be okay, but they need to work on communication. read more

My mom was nervous. "Make sure you write down the license plate number. Make sure someone is there with you. Make sure..." Well, you get the idea. She just couldn't grasp that this random Craigslist post was for real. It sounded too good to be true. Shawn and his buddy Nick showed up at my 1st floor apt. in Lincoln Square to move me 1/2 mile east to my 2nd floor apt. They had quoted me $110 for a small 1 bedroom 2 guy move. Again, this was my 7th move in the city, 19th move in my life. Not my first time at the rodeo, so to speak, but yet I also had a nagging nervous feeling. It didn't completely go away when I saw the slightly battered red pick up truck with *gasp of horror* Nebraska license plates pull up in my alley. I'm not a Nebraska fan. Longtime childhood thing...ask Shawn, he thought it was hilarious. Anyway, they had my stuff moved in an hour. With a second trip that he only charged me $20 for. TWENTY. They were sooo nice it was ridiculous! Art students at UIC, for heaven's sake! I was shocked, shocked by how quick and efficient they were. I wanted to give them beers, but they had 3 other moves to do after me and reluctantly turned down the offer. So, for $170 I moved my entire apartment without having to enlist my dad and brother. That alone was worth it to keep family peace! So I'm not still not completely sold on Nebraska, but I am on Lakeview Movers. Get these guys the next time you move...you won't be disappointed! read more
