I've been taking my dogs to Home Away From Home, Grants Pass, for over five years for training and for both day care and overnight pet sitting for vacation trips when I couldn't take them. This facility is the best - clean, great personnel, personal time for my dogs spending the night, and happy, well loved dogs upon my return from extended vacations as well as day care and training. I know how well they were treated because they have always been excited to go back!! The training experiences really helped me train my pit bull puppy to become a great canine citizen who could go anywhere I went. I adopted a special needs bully who has spent the night(s) there several times, and he loves going there. I swear they love that dog more than they love us adult kids *lol - smiles* We had short notice and needed to get the Fur Baby boarded ASAP (within 48hrs) for 2-4 days right as summer vacations are starting up *fingers crossed* We live in Ashland and would NEVER take our Fur Baby to Alpha Valley in Phoenix ever again *so bad* So GP is a full hour out of our way but after speaking with Jan over the phone, she made the arrangements between phone and email SO EASY *whew*. It is currently $35 per day for a standard sized 5x7 or you can pay $40 for the larger sized "suite". They provide high quality pet food, bedding, toys and 1 recess included. You can opt for additional services including: extra playtime, baths, nail trim, personalize 1-1 play time, dog walking and so much more. For those who might be hesitant: My fur baby usually loses a couple of pounds (gets anxious and sometimes won't eat) AND he reliably completely shreds his bed to the point of no repair. A friend recommended this place to me for my doggo. We were going on one of the jet boat excursions and didn't want to leave our dog alone in a camper for hours. Everything about the experience was super easy. Called and made a reservation, they emailed me the forms and we took him in a dropped him off and it went super smoothly. When we got there to pick him up he was happy and we got a good report on him. They made our time away from him relaxing and fun knowing he was in great hands. Home Away from Home Pet Spa made it so much easier for me to leave my pups knowing they were in such good hands! They told me I could call to check in on my pups during their stay and actually gave me a magnet with their phone number to ensure I had the information needed to check in on them while I was away. And they NEVER seemed put out or bothered when I did call to check on them. During check in they reviewed and actually listened to all the information I gave about my dogs' specific quirks and reassured me that they would be well taken care of during their stay. It's incredibly hard in the rogue valley to find a good boarding facility (i've had some pretty bad previous experiences with other local kennels) and now I have one! My dogs came back tired, safe, and happy! Keep up the fantastic work and Hershey and Riley will be back in the future!! read more

The Boarding part of this establishment is a total rip-off. I posted a negative response and was told if I remove it, I will get a partial refund...that never happened so here goes... They should make it clear that an overnight stay, no matter how brief, will be charged for 2 whole days! Even though any smart device you ask, or what you were taught in school, 24 hours do NOT a day make in their eyes! We left our pooch at 1 p.m. and picked him up shortly after they opened the next day and were charged $70! Not even a 24 hour stay but the way the wording is on their waiver, it is not clear that ANY part of one day and ANY part of another constitutes a whole day! read more

We started bringing our Malamute to Home Away From Home's Wednesday night socialization class with their dog behaviorist and her corgie sidekick when Simba was 4 months old. He has been raised by two little 10 pound dogs and needed to be socialized around big ones. This behaviorist, Jessica, is the best I have ever seen and I was around military ones. She not only taught our dog but brought him through his "benchmarks" which has helped him grow into a confident but loving dog who can play with little dogs and kids but also big dogs as well. We have to travel up to the Portland VA or OHSU a couple times a month and will only board our pets there. Our dogs go in without looking back to say good bye. As is they are going on a vacation. The love and special care cannot be copied. This is the only place we trust to board any of our pets and highly recommend it to everyone. Wenesday night socialization class is very cheap and so worth it. read more

I am not the type to leave reviews but I feel like I absolutely have to about this. Today we took our dog to HOME AWAY FROM HOME PET SPA in grants pass. I had booked an appointment for him a couple weeks ago for a bath and brushing. His appointment was at 10am. I talked with the receptionist and told her we live an hour away and asked for an idea how long he would be and that we would just be killing time in grants pass waiting. She said it could be up to 3 hours. We left and took our other dogs down to the river for a few hours to wait. After 3.5 hours we went back to see if he was ready since we hadn't recieved a call yet. When I got into the lobby I could hear him crying and barking. The lady at the desk told me he had only been bathed so far and was being dried off. I asked to go back and see him because I could hear him crying. My poor babe was in a small cage in a back room by himself with fans blowing at him. She told me they needed to brush him still and that the ladies were now on lunch so it would be a little longer, this is already 3.5 hrs after he had been there. We left and went to eat and kill more time. Another hour and half later we went back and they told me that he still wasn't ready and that they needed to brush him. I was noticeably annoyed that we had been waiting in town for 5 hours for what should have been less than 2 hours of work and they apologized and said they have had a lot of walk in nail appointments today and that's why he was not finished. I finally got to pick him up close to 6 hours later. I was so upset I walked to the back and took him. He had been in a small cage ALL DAY. When I asked if they took him out to potty she said she would have to ask. When I took him outside he immediately went pee and poop. They did not take him out! I don't even think they gave him water. He was so thirsty and drank so much. So short story long, The people at this place literally left my poor dog to sit alone in a cage for hours so they could make more money taking walk in nail cuttings instead of taking the walk ins after the appointment we booked. So unacceptable. To top it all off this 5 hours later that. writing this and my dog has not stopped shaking his head and scratching at his ear. I have no idea what they did to him back there but I feel like the worst dog owner right now for bringing him there and trusting them to take good care of him. I hope this review saves someone else from taking their fur baby here. There is no where to leave a review on their Facebook page and people of GP should be warned about the treatment of animals here. read more

I was extremely happy with the grooming, but I went in for a class and was denied service. When I asked why, they said I talked bad about the trainer. 1st of all, I never talked about the trainer. I never used the trainer for any classes. 2nd of all the owner who happens to be in the same club as me, did not even ask me to see if I said such things, they just said I am not allowed to use them. 3rd of all I only encouraged people to use this facility for training and grooming. 4th of all, I was there with a friend who was there and said I never said anything bad. For me, this crushed me, and let's say I did say these things which I did not, The things they accused me of were negative talks not threatening talks, so in my opinion very unprofessional and unfair. Also, I have used this place for training in the past and it was a good place for that then. I have encouraged many to use this place and now I can only share my negative experience and hope it does not happen to anyone else. Being accused of things when you are innocent is an awful thing, and I am crushed. read more

Terrible customer service. I made a reservation for two nights for my dog. They asked me if my dog had the multiple vaccinations that are required to board my dog. So I went thru my paperwork and found the vaccinations my dog had got and called them back. The women at the reception desk said great, bring your dog in. When I got there another person at the desk asked for the paperwork which I gave to her. She then said gleefully that the Bordetella had expired by 6 months ago and the can't take the dog. I told her I'd driven 45 miles to get to her facility and why didn't the person over the phone ask for the dates of the shots before telling me to come on down. She then told me we don't have time for that and it's my responsibility to know when the vaccination shots are out of date. They don't have time to ask me for the dates of the vaccinations over the phone, really? I won't ever do business with Home Away From Home Pet Spa. read more

I recently had a most disturbing experience at HAFH. Picked up my dog after a weeks stay and he was a mess. Feces caked on his bottom, eyes uncared for and feces and rocks stuck between his toes on all four paws. He is a wooly, but well maintained Labradoodle, so at first glance I commented on the dirty smudge on his bottom only to be told he had just come in from the yard. On further inspection at home there was way more going on. When I called to complain I was told that they had had a terrible dog fight that a.m. And while I felt bad for the girl I was talking to as she was clearly shaken by the experience, it only made me realize that someone dropped the ball and didn't get my dog pulled together for pick up which gave me the opportunity to see that the care had been truly awful. The first time my dog stayed there a huge black widow crawled out of his bed as it was being put in my trunk. I should have realized there might be a problem then. Never again! I had to select a star to get this posted. read more

We dropped off one dog in the standArd boarding runs at 5pm. We picked her up less than 17 hours later, the very next morning and they charge for 2 days. Yes, she was returned to us in a safe and efficient condition, and the staff was friendly with letting me look over the suites and grooming area, they definitely should not charge an overnight for 2 days, that is wrong. Every kennel in the world charges by the night & then possibly a day care/play charge for day use, but it's very misleading to put "20/for boarding" then charge 40, for a single nights stay. We even met another man in the parking lot dropping off his dog, who asked us what this place's problem was for charging 2 days fee for a single nights stay. Clearly, it's not just us, others were baffled. Yay for good care, boo for bad advertising and sneaky business practices. read more

I took my puppy to obedience classes here until I was roly-poly eight months pregnant. I learned the foundation of dog training that is both kind and respectful to the animal. We have boarded our dogs here for over the past several years. Normally they do very well, we know and trust that our boys are very well taken care of. Their treatment of my boys is not my complaint. BUT this previous stay the staff there were incredibly rude about a situation that could have very easily been handled at the very least, nicely. we boarded our "healthy" dogs 10 days. Aug 2014. when we picked dogs up they were sneezing and coughing. We didn't know they had kennel cough until we took them to the Vet two days later. My wife called to let them know our dogs were sick and the kennel manager refused to talk over the phone but would only relay a message thru another employee...hmm sounds fishy to me. I believe they new they were sick and did not tell us. For $405.00 plus Vet cost it was expensive. Talked with the owner in which gave a response in which of coarse took all responsibility off them by telling us" its in the forms we signed." We took our dog to be boarded after getting proof of vaccinations and vaccinating for kennel cough a week in advance so it would be effective. These are the rules, and we reserved a room for the dog overnight on a Saturday. After all the forms were filled and proofs given, questions asked and answered...got to the last page and the woman said by the way, we would be charged for two days, since they don't open up for people to pick up their pets until 3pm on Sunday. We were dropping off at 3pm and picking up at 3pm: 24 hours, and they wanted $60. We walked. A very unpleasant experience, obviously designed in advance to swindle folks. No apology. These people seemed to care only about the money, obviously. read more

The classroom is large, and most importantly the classes are fun and great learning opportunities for my dog! He really enjoys Terry as well as the class setting!
