I recently moved to the area and wanted to take my mom to a great restaurant. I have seen good reviews about Home, and we decided to give it a try. It was excellent! You walk in and everyone is very friendly, we had our choice between sitting at the bar, the living room area or the dining room. We chose the dining room and our server was extremely attentive and made some excellent suggestions from the menu. First we try the eggplant fritters which were delicious, light and crispy, they did not even need any sauce. Mom and I both had the burger which did not disappoint. Juicy, tasty, didn't even need ketchup and the bun was soft and tasty, the fries were perfection. If we had stayed a little longer we probably would've had dessert but we were stuffed by then. The food was amazing here but the service was just alright. For apps we got general sos Brussels sprouts and some Italian egg rolls. For an entree I got chicken and waffle Mac and cheese which was also awesome. The wait to put our order in was very long it took about 30-45 min for our server to come back after we asked for one more minute. Then the food took a while as well but it was busy that night. FANTASTIC gluten free menu. I've never seen a restaurant that nailed it like Home. It makes it VERY easy to go out to dinner with a group and not have to pick apart my order due to celiac. I love they have almost everything on the regular menu on the gluten free menu. The bread that is used is one of the best brands I've tried which is a huge compliment. Most gluten free bread is almost not edible but Home has found fantastic product. Thank you Home for being so inclusive for us gluten free people! You gave us a place to go and enjoy a meal with hard restrictions. I am very impressed with the knowledge of the staff and how seriously they take food allergies. For being a restaurant that isn't known for having a celiac and gluten sensitivity menu I am impressed. I have recommended Home to every person with food allergies just because of how aware the staff is and they appear to genuinely care. With how nasty the general public has become it is impressive that the wait staff has only been prompt, attentive and fantastic. Owners/management needs to recognize what a phenomenal staff Home has at every visit. For the people that don't need to worry about gluten I can say every person I bring there is very happy with each meal that they have had each time. Regardless of the meal, each plate has been very fair pricing and portions. I understand the price of food has increased tremendously, but it appears Home has figured out how to still make phenomenal meals that are worth the prices. I have never had a meal that I wouldn't have again, which is rarity with how many different meals I have tried. My husband got the salmon corn salad which had a very small portion of fish that was too blackened & spicy. The croutons were awful! I had the eggplant cavatelli which was awful. It had garbanzo beans & red peppers but no sauce? So it was just dry with little flavor. The best dessert option they had were chocolate chip cookies. For $75 it was more than disappointing. Wow! I would give a 10-star review if I could. I went here the other day with my family and we enjoyed our meals very much. The drinks were good, the food was really tasty, well-prepared, and everything came out quickly and warm. Three of us got mac n cheese, it was excellent. The butternut squash bisque was great, and the dessert was to die for - we got the donuts, warm chocolate chip cookies, and two different flavors of ice cream. Yum! The service was stellar, which made the experience even better. Everyone was very nice and accomodating. The only tiny recommendation we have is to make the grits with the Root Beer braised short rib less sweet and more savory, to balance the sweetness of the short ribs which are pretty sweet. Quaint little place I found thank you to Yelp and then coincidentally talked to someone who lives in the area who said it's their favorite restaurant. The place is set up like a home- a living room with couches and chairs and a dining room in the back. The wall of the dining room is lined with windows and lets in so much light. My waitress was attentive and friendly. She tried to sell me on the Sicilian Pizza which is an app ever day and each day it changes. It sounded delicious but I was opting for healthy and instead got the mustard rubbed maple salmon salad. I love goat cheese, asparagus and cherry tomatoes. The butternut squash croutons were homemade and delicious. The peppers, however, set my mouth on fire. While it was listed in the description, it was dark and hard to see. The focaccia bread is so fresh and grilled to come out warm with your food. Divine. Everything is very fresh but the wait did feel a tad long. This is an aptly named restaurant because it really does have a warm and inviting atmosphere. We were lucky to get a spot right by the fireplace. I tried the seafood gumbo and fried dough appetizer. The gumbo had a nice peppery heat to it, and the dough was wonderful with the marinara sauce and ricotta. I had the shrimp and scallops mac and cheese, and it was delicious. The service was attentive and efficient. We had a couple gluten free people in our party, and it is awesome that they offer nearly everything on their menu in a GF version. I had looked up this restaurant prior to heading out to Branford (I'm about an hour away.) The reviews are great and had me hopeful. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't great. We came in around 12:30 in the afternoon for lunch. There was no one around to sit us for a few minutes. The restaurant was not busy. Once we got seated, we waited 5 minutes and we're greeted by a waitress who maybe was having a bad day, but was definitely unpleasant. She poured us water and walked away. We had a great dinner at Home yesterday, after a day of errands this place was an ideal landing place! The restaurant was completely covid safe, the atmosphere was warm and casual, and the staff was very friendly. We ordered the tomato soup - definitely recommend, the butternut squash soup - also delicious, and 3 different Mac n cheese dishes: chicken n waffle, loaded mashed potato, and shrimp scampi. My friend and I decided to give Home a try based on the positive reviews. The environment is relaxing and comfortable and the server we had was friendly. However, we found the food to be very overpriced and mediocre at best. My pasta was very undercooked, beyond what I would call al dente. Neither of us enjoyed our meal enough to finish it or even want to bring it home. I also found it ridiculous that I had to pay $3 extra for fruit in my sangria when any other place includes fruit. Being someone that can't eat wheat, there are a lot of things that I can't have anymore and I've learned to live with that. Somehow I learned about Home and their extensive gluten free menu and I made it my mission to get there the next time I was in the area. I've visited twice now and both times were amazing. The first time I had the gf veggie mac & it was good, but I wasn't blown away. However, I was impressed with the local beers on tap and the cozy atmosphere. The second time I went was much better because my husband and I had a gf feast! We ordered the small size of the 7 cheese mac, falafel tacos, a small spinach salad & the General Tso's Brussels sprouts. The mac was so delicious that I had to stop just short of licking the serving dish. The spinach salad was fresh, the Brussels sprouts were perfectly cooked and not too overseasoned. Finally, the falafel tacos were perfectly seasoned, not greasy and the pickled carrots and tahini sauce really took them to the next level. The food here is incredible and there is such a great range of gf things that I can order. Plus the service is good and the atmosphere is cute and intimate without being fancy. The cheeses on the cheese board -- 2 cheddars and a jalapeño style -- serves with the cranberries or whatever they are are great -- hearty and filling. We also shared The beyond burger with fries and dipping sauces. The burger was on a sub, and tasted great with cherry peppers, pickled onions, mushrooms , and Swiss cheese. Warm and inviting atmosphere...really feels like home in one section of the restaurant. They have couches and perfect lighting to make you believe you're sitting in your living room. They have plenty of sitting so don't worry, your group will be accommodated. We ordered the duck wings-superb with just the perfect amount of sauce and season. It was very tender and juicy. The fries were crunchy but they are paired with a homemade BBQ sauce, a Parmesan sauce, and olive and basil sauce which added a delightful taste! Delicious! No wait for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in the summer. We had the Homenog martini and the banana mudslide to start both delicious drinks. Appetizer we had the fried dough chips with ricotta and sauce which was scrumptious! Had dinner here on a Friday night after another restaurant in town had almost an hour and a half wait. We were seated immediately and were greeted by a friendly bartender. We ordered a beer and a passion fruit mojito. The bartender delivered a regular mojito (may have misheard the order) and beer that far from ice cold. I looked around the room and saw that everyone else had a mixed drink so the regulars that eat here often must know the beer is not cold. We then ordered the pork tacos with mac and cheese and a turkey burger. When the food arrived, I was surprised that I was paying $16.00 for two tiny soft tacos. I've had multiple situations where my order will be marked as ready online, I'll walk in to give them my name and they look at me like I have ten heads. I then have to wait another 15-20 minutes without any updates as to why my order is taking so long. When I finally got my food, there was no "sorry for the wait" or even "have a good night." Hosted my baby shower at home in the private back room with 50 guests. From start to finish everything was outstanding. Communicating and planning with Cody was so so great and all of it paid off on the day of. The room was beautifully configured and tables were set simply and elegantly. Cody also made sure we had plenty of room for the very large dessert table we brought in ourselves, gifts, games and all the extras that go with a special event. The food was excellent and my guests are still raving about it days later. The staff was on point, serving cocktails and Beverages quickly and replenishing the buffet as needed. My friend and I spied the bbq veggie burger on the menu that was made with a beyond burger patty. We were torn between party melts and the bbq veggie burger. Usually veggie burgers are meh but we heard about the beyond burgers and wanted to try them out. So we decided to split a patty melt and the bbq veggie burger. First Home staff actually split our burgers on separate plates and gave us both an adequate amount of fries or salad. Great move Home! That usually doesn't happen. Onto the food... the Patty Melt was good but the veggie burger was phenomenal!! Soooo good.
