They scheduled the appointment for this morning to inspect my house. I received a call 45 minutes before my scheduled appointment saying Brian would be 45 minutes late. Although that messed up my schedule, I said it was okay. There were things I could have gotten done earlier if I hadn't planned on being here at 10:000 for the appointment scheduled by Idaho Insulation. Brian texted at the rescheduled time saying he was still 45 minutes away. I told him I would be leaving at noon (which gave him a bit over an hour) and that if he could make it by then, fine; if not, no need to reschedule. He responded that I should probably find someone else. Apparently he didn't trust himself to live up to his own revised timing estimate and didn't want to waste his time after already wasting mine. Since this was my first and only experience with Idaho Insulation, I can only assume this is typical of their service. Now I'm over a week down the road and have to start the process all over again with another company. I had hoped to have received an estimate and ordered service today.

Chase did the estimate and gave me a very good price. I priced out the materials and it would cost me more to do it myself. His techs were friendly and efficient. The entire job was completed in 1 day! I have already noticed that on a hot day the upstairs is now only 1 degree hotter than downstairs. Just last week it was 6 degrees hotter! I'm a believer!

With the tax credits, the price seemed reasonable and I was excited to have the help since I was getting burnt out on constant home improvement projects since moving in. The work was supposed to take most of the day to complete and I took an hour off work in the morning to let the crew in and show them around. On the day the work was scheduled, the crew showed up an hour late so I had to take additional unscheduled time off work even though I had already burned an hour of leave. Off to a bad start. Quinn, the salesperson who scheduled the work, called me to apologize and told me that he would discount the work by $100 to make up for the inconvenience. This made me feel better for a little while, until Chase (the owner) later told me that Quinn had over-promised and they wouldn't be honoring the verbal discount. When I got home that evening, I walked through the house and went down the list of things that were included in the bid: seal windows, bathroom fans, duct boots, recessed lighting, add weatherstripping and attic insulation. The caulk work around the windows wasn't continuous and I had to scrape caulk off my kitchen floor. Several windows hadn't been caulked at all. I checked the bathroom fans. One of them had been sealed, but the other had not. The other work was completed as promised. When Quinn came back to perform the post-audit (5 weeks after the work was performed), we walked through the house and I showed him the areas that had been missed. He agreed that the work was incomplete and scheduled the work to be completed the following week (6 weeks after the original appointment). After the crew came out to do the followup work, I found that one window and one bathroom fan still hadn't been sealed. I pointed these out to Chase when he came to do a walkthrough 2 weeks later (8 weeks after the original appointment). The crew came out again 4 weeks later (12 weeks after the original appointment) to finish the caulk work, and did indeed apply caulk to the window that had been missed as well as adding additional caulk to some of the windows that had already been sealed - but this time they used silicone caulk instead of painters caulk, so I'll need to scrape all of that off next time we paint. I'm very disappointed in the quality of work and in the length of time it took to get this company to simply check off the items on the bid. On top of that, they created an uncomfortable situation by asking on 3 separate occasions for me to sign the "Completion Certificate" from Foundation Finance, promising that they would still come out and finish the work even after I signed it. The Certificate says right on it: "Home repair contractors are prohibited by law from requesting or accepting a certificate of completion signed by the owner prior to the actual completion of the work to be performed under the home repair contract." Chase and Quinn are both great salesmen, but if you work with this company in the future, make sure you double check the actual work before calling it a day.

I initially called for a repair as my AC motor died. They diagnosed it promptly and offered the fix. Trane repairs are not cheap and my refrigerant was retired by the industry. So, we replaced our AC and Heater at the same time. Their initial offering was at the budget model from Goodman but I didn't want a system that would only last 10 years. I wanted something that woud pair with my replaced Trane system and last over 25+ years. They recommended Amana as their high end and it has a lifetime warranty. However, I was not told I needed to register these units within 60 days to keep that extended warranty. So luckily, I read the fine print and completed that. Its almost been two months and the systems are working well! I highly recommend this team for any installations and repairs.

Here is our story. I won't go as far as saying it is a scam. I will say it was a disappointing experience that caused us to lose faith in Ultimate, although to that point they had been our contracted service company for twice a year maintenance inspections. During one of their routine check up visits last year, the technician told my husband that there were serious things wrong and we needed a new unit. He said that a sales guy would be in touch with us to follow up to make selection for a new unit. We were astounded because the unit was less than 10 years old, we have 3 zone heating and cooling in a custom built home home, we are meticulous about maintenance. We heard from the sales guy a day or two later, he came to our home and met with my husband and I listened to the discussion while working on other things. The sales guy was very nice but this is not our first rodeo, as the saying goes, given this is our fourth custom home where HVAC units were installed to serve multiple zones so my husband had a number of good questions and the answers were vague. We had no reason to distrust Ultimate at that point, but with an almost $25K estimate to install a new unit, we needed a second opinion by a qualified HVAC business. So we called another company we used during an emergency after a water leak that required the restoration company to have the HVAC unit to be removed and replaced. We used that company then because Ultimate couldn't fit us in to their schedule. That other HVAC company did a great job during the emergency so we asked them to come look at our unit. They did and issued a clean bill of health. We are loyal customer types and would have stayed with Ultimate forever in the service contract we renewed with them every year for twice yearly check ups on our HVAC. But after that experience, we switched our annual contract over to this other company. I'm going to give them credit for the years they did the the two seasonal checkups years on our HVC. So I'll post 2 stars with that credit in mind. But I don't think Sam M's 1 star is wrong.

I was very pleased with the technicians and that they found that everything was OK. Because of that visit, I signed up for their monthly membership. I called to have the plumbing side of my membership done today was a very pleased when Bryce arrived and on time. He is very knowledgeable about plumbing. I needed a couple of new parts and he installed them quickly and neatly. I highly recommend this company from their front office to the servicemen.
