Had such high expectations for this company but was not to be, sadly. Called and explained we had a dryer vent cleaning brush head that had come unscrewed and lodged in our dryer vent. The woman took down all the notes and said it would be 97.00. The technician came and within 2 min said he didn't do that and doesn't have tools etc. ??? What did he think he came to do? Anyway, Demetrios said it wasn't a charge because he didn't do anything and was gone in 5 mins. Then 20mins later we get a bill for the 97.00. When we called back right away, we were told that it couldn't be handled until Monday (this was Sat). First exposure to this company and we were NOT impressed. **Update- To their credit, Sarah did phone back that same day and apologized and said that the invoice now reflects a zero balance. She offered to reschedule later in the week but we found another company and could come out quicker and was cheaper. read more

I was a customer of this company for 7 years and paid for their Silver Blue Ribbon maintenance plan, so this review is not based on a one-time interaction. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was so bad that I canceled my membership entirely. I called because my AC stopped blowing cold air and my house had reached 87 degrees during a heat wave. The technician, Dustin, and his assistant were unfriendly from the moment they arrived. They walked through my home without permission, were dismissive when I asked questions, and I often had to ask multiple times before receiving a clear answer. At one point, a racist remark was made during the visit, which was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. What upset me most was the fear-based sales approach. I was told that my furnace/air handler had a serious issue that could cause major damage and that I needed thousands of dollars in repairs and replacement parts. The estimate I received was around $2,000. Because I was so concerned, I had the original installing company come out for a second opinion. They confirmed that the filter had been installed incorrectly, but they did not agree that the situation was an emergency requiring extensive replacement parts. They corrected the issue, flushed the system, and completed the work without the expensive repairs I had been told were necessary. I was also surprised to learn that a part I had paid for through Western was actually covered under warranty. The second company questioned why I had been charged for it at all. The most frustrating part is that Western had been servicing this system under a paid maintenance plan for years. When I asked how a major issue could have been missed during multiple inspections, I was told they do not necessarily inspect everything during each visit. That left me wondering what exactly I had been paying for all these years. When I later canceled my maintenance plan, I was informed that discounts would be removed from my estimate if I canceled, and I was told certain cancellation fees were being "waived." After seven years of paying for service, that response felt incredibly tone-deaf given the circumstances. Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is how a company handles them. Instead of accountability, I experienced poor communication, scare tactics, questionable recommendations, and a complete lack of concern for a long-term customer. When my wife and I moved to Boise 11 years ago, finding good HVAC service was a priority. We tried a few other companies, but have been happy customers of Western HVAC for over 10 years. We have an old home with unique equipment and requirements. The Western technicians have always taken the time to do the job right even when it meant a long service call. We always request Brett because he knows what he is doing and is familiar with our equipment. (Western allows us to request a particular technician for our service calls.) I had a new AC/heater system installed by Western Heating & Air in July 2025. The installation itself seemed fine, but there was no walkthrough--no explanation of how to operate the system, what filter size it uses, or where it goes. When the heater didn't work in October, I called for service. The technician said the filter was the issue, removed it, and left without replacing it. He was rude and dismissive, told me to buy filters online, and even suggested I could "find another provider" to cover the remainder of the warranty. I was never offered a service plan or shown any maintenance basics. I chose Western because of their long-standing reputation in the valley, but the lack of communication, professionalism, and post-installation support was disappointing. read more

JUST. THE. WORST. Why these people have a contract with Toll Brothers I'll never understand. We moved into our brand new house in Passero Ridge last week. Yesterday the compressor in our a/c unit started screaming, and there was no more cool air. We were put in touch with these bozos, and while there were many ways they could have helped us, they couldn't be bothered. They sent a service guy today who determined we needed some parts, but they don't stock them (they have a contract with one of the biggest homebuilders in the country, but they don't stock parts?!?). He checked with whomever and said he's have it by Friday. My husband said that's not acceptable ... why should we suffer in our new house with a new air conditioner in 95-degree heat while we waited for 2 days? He talked to somebody in charge and suggested the service guy go in to any of the as-yet unsold homes all around us, remove the parts we need, fix our unit and replace the parts in that house when they arrive on Friday. No, they can't do that (can't, won't, or won't inconvenience themselves to service what they sell?). So, how about taking the whole unit out of an empty house and replacing ours? Nope. How about overnighting the part so we only have to wait one day instead of 2? The guy in charge (why do they have such a boorish clod in charge?) actually said, "no, we can't have that expense just so you'll have a/c 24 hours sooner!" Oh, and while my husband wasted time with the idiot on the phone, the service guy just drove away without a word. Who are these people, and how do they stay in business? How is it that Toll Brothers puts up with them? If it's because they don't know about their crummy business practice, they will - that's my next stop. Stay away from them at all costs. I contacted Western H & A/C to add a gas line for a gas dryer as well as running a gas line to the rear patio for a future gas barbecue or fire pit. Mike Casper met me at our home and prepared a detailed and fair proposal. They scheduled our work to accommodate our schedule and confirmed the appointment ahead of time. The work was performed in a professional manner by their experienced team with a detail to the visible appearance of the work besides installing the gas lines properly to code. They did obtain a permit from the City and the inspector approved the work and signed off on it when they were finished. Would recommend them without hesitation for their work. read more

I can't say enough about what a great experience I had with this company. We had a problem with the AC two days before the triple digit degree day and one day before it was going up into the 90's. I called Western and they got Christopher out to evaluate what the problem was within two hours. I must say right from the start that the heater and AC were both 22 yrs, old. Turns out the problem was severe enough that replacing the AC was the most obvious "fix". Christopher called Shane, the Project Manager and he made an appointment to come the next day to take a look and see what our options were. Shane arrived on time, and re-examined the AC and the heater. He showed us what the problems were and sat down and wrote out our options and the prices for each option. No hard sell, no upsell tactics, no using fear to manipulate a choice, just the choices available to us and each option explained in detail. Shane was great. I loved that he didn't try to influence our choice in any way. He was personable, knowledgeable, and professional without being condescending or patronizing. We opted to replace both the AC and the heater. Shane called the office to get an installation day for us. It was scheduled for two days later. Less than an hour later he called back to say they had had a cancelation and they could do it the very next day. On time, Travis W. & Joe M showed up to do the installation. Again...two of the greatest professionals. Again, a great job. Took them several hours and I don't think they even took a break. I kept them supplied with water in the garage fridge so I knew they wouldn't dehydrate. It was hot in the garage. When they were finished, they walked us through and showed us everything they did in installing both units so they would easily pass city inspection. They also walked us through programing the new thermostat and connecting it to the wifi. They really did leave the garage cleaner than they found it. They actually blew it out...and picked up the leftover debris. I was just amazed at the service we received. I've had good service from several different companies before but this was above and beyond. There is not one thing I was left thinking could have been improved. I don't even have any suggestions... Our A/C started acting up (again) so we decided to finally replace it. We called a few companies and decided to go with Western as they seemed to know what they were talking about and quoted us reasonably lower than Right Now. A sales rep came to our house and explained different options. The installation was booked fairly soon after that and took less than a day (maybe 6hrs?). I made an appointment with Western Heating & Air Conditioning to service my A/C unit and contract for a annual service. I received an appointment confirmation email. they also sent a text message confirmation to which I replied "YES". After waiting through the 4 hour window they gave me they never showed up. I called 1-1/2 hours later to learn that they had reassigned my appointment. They never called, texted or emailed me to say they would not be coming. I had to call them to find out that they weren't coming. THEY WAISTED MY TIME! When I called they shuffled my call from person to person. Finally I was told the reason for my appointment reassignment was because they had a large construction job going on and they needed all their technicians on that job. When I asked why they hadn't contacted me to let me know they told me that they called me. THAT WAS A BIG FAT LIE because I had my cell phone with me 24-7. They never called. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL CONSTRUCTION SLOWS DOWN AND THEY COME CRAWLING AND GROBBLING LIKE THE LOW RUNNING, WORMS THAT THEY ARE! The absolute WORST customer service over the past three years. Western Heating and Air came today for "maintenance ordered by the homeowner on the new furnace. It was a rescheduled filter chance because they would move a small metal shelf to access the filer door. Today, the garage door was up and the shelving was moved. No phone call from the tech, nothing. Didn't ring the bell, but left a "sorry we missed you" note on the door. We had rearranged our whole day to accomodate... again. I am going to start changing the filters myself so that this isn't a continued problem. Unbelievable. At least they didn't unplug the freezers this time, causing $4000 in losses (covered by their insurance). They nickle and dime you to death. Over a dozen technician visits over the last three years. I was a blue ribbon member after having western install a furnace 7 years ago, around Nov 2016. The bearings went out after just over 7 years. They did not honor the warranty, even having inspected the furnace every six months for 7 years. There are many good, reliable HVAC services in the valley, don't use Western. read more

After receiving an OUTRAGEOUS QUOTE from YMC, Mechanical HVAC, (closer to $700)! We called to set an appt at Western heating and air-conditioning. A very friendly professional and efficient technician by the name of Russ Lantz arrived looked over our system which is a Two zone mini split, that had already been installed by a certified electrician and just needed to start up. Russ handled the job in less than an hour, gave us a few instructions on the unit and was on his way for exactly what his company quoted on the phone to us for a start-up which was $119.00. He did not waste an hour of our time trying to upsell us to annual service or warranty for a price gouging fee of over $600!! He simply stated they were there if we needed them and to call any time - they would happy to help us! Western heating and air is efficient professional and FAIR!! They were called out on a service call at the house. They mark their parts up way to high. They took a $12 - $20 part and charged me $192 for it. I called them to dispute their bill and was told that this is how do it. They said it includes other fees. The also charged $185 for labor. I personally would not recommend them to anybody or any of my friends. I have knowledge of what I am talking about. They charged me $377 for the call total. This should have been about $240 at the most. By the way I have worked in HVAC for 43 years. This was a rental. read more

Previous owner had Western install best residential heat pump Carrier makes (per Western) in Jan 2012. January 2015 it was replaced under warranty. I purchased home in 2017 and heat pump failed for 3rd time in 8 years in 2020 Despite 3 repair calls to Western. Another Carrier dealer, highly rewarded by Carrier, informed me that the heat ducts were too small causing the pumps to fail from overworking. THIS WAS EASY TO DISCOVER BY LOOKING AT THE "stactic pressure" on thermostat I.e. hvac basics But they missed it on 2 installations and several repair calls. Result -$17000 bill to enlarge & replace air ducts & heating system. The best equipment in the world is worthless if installed by incompetent installers! read more

Our family has been customers of Western for six years. We are part of the Blue Ribbon Program which gives us heating and air conditioning maintenance twice a year. I love the peace of mind after the service guys leave and tell me everything is cleaned and working well. We live amongst the cottonwoods and having the outdoor systems cleaned makes the air conditioner work much better. I just recently had service guy, Dusty, out for our spring maintenance. I hired a HVAC company to come do twice yearly Heating and AC checks and they found an issue with our system. Our system is only 3 years old so I thought maybe there was a warranty covering the repairs. I gave Western Heating and Air a call because they originally installed the system 3 years ago. I asked about a warranty and was told I needed to have one of their techs come out and look at the system, I said I had already paid for a tech from another company and just needed information on the warranty. I was then told Western was unable to help and was told to figure it out myself. Worst customer service. Calling the mfg of the HVAC and they said Western had the warranty information but I let them know Western was unwilling to assist unless I hired their tech to come out. So much for going above and beyond in helping. I might have considered them for service but after the gal on the phone talked to me like that I will share about the horrid service. I am all about good customer service and when I don't get it I will let others know to steer clear. Want good customer service on HVAC, call Wickstrom. Our AC was acting strange, it wasn't cooling properly. We had company coming, so it was really important to have it working. We called Western. My dad recommended them. It felt like Lloyd was more interested in selling the maintenance package than doing his job. He didn't really know what was wrong. So, he added some refrigerant and charged us $150. One day later, AC is still not cooling properly. So, I think Western is terrible. All about sales, not about doing their job and fixing problem. Now, we have no AC and company staying with us, EXACTLY what we were trying to avoid. Update: Western reached out to me and said that they will try to fix the situation. read more

Recently had to call for a service man due to an error code. Technician was prompt, friendly and professional. Unfortunately the service manager was none of the above. I got a call from Western asking if i was happy with their service. I expressed a concern about the service call charge. A few minutes later a man identifying him self as the service manager called me. I expressed that i was not happy about paying the charge for a service call when the repair was suggested by Carrier, the manufacturer. I got a 20-30 speech about Western's policy and Carrier's warranty. He even suggested i call Carrier. The charge was from Western, not Carrier. After listening to his several minute speech it was obvious they were not taking my concern seriously. Based on his response i filled a Google review. Someone, i dont know who, responded with a lengthy comnent reciting many issues that were not under question. He went so far as to "remind me", that they had a recording of my initial phone call. While i was not disputing any of the facts he stated, he proceded to restate basically what I had been told over the phone. At no time was the fact that i felt i was being treated badly acknowledged. The money involved was very small. My issue was how i was treated. They called me! I was told repeatedly what their position was. I had heard it several times. Their refusal to even acknowledge that i was unhappy was unbelievable. It is obvious to me that revenue, however small it is, drives their customer service. I am pleased with the unit installed and the service i received. Their refusal to acknowledge my feelings and their hiding behind "policy and warranty" is horrible customer service. Suggesting I call the manufacturer was ludicrous!Good luck if you ever have an issue with this company. Their " customer service" seems to end once your check clears. We signed up for the Blue Ribbon Service in the spring & just had our fall tune-up. The technician was very kind & efficient. He noticed something was wrong with how our unit is set up & offered solutions for how we can fix it before it becomes a problem. My only complaint/suggestion is that I wish that the office would do a reminder call for the 2nd part of the service so I don't accidentally forget. I am so happy we signed up for the seasonal check up plan with Western Heating. They come out twice a year and do a great job maintaining our HVAC system. And then when we have smaller issues, they are fast, friendly and responsive. For example, I was having trouble with our wall mounted thermostat this morning. They send a technician right over and he was super friendly and helpful (Jock!!) and help me figure out the problem. It's easy to overlook a service like this.....until you really need them! However, there were a few excuses thrown out (didn't hear my husband say anything about the history of the heating bill, don't know the tech had requested we not be charged, etc.) that didn't coincide with my husband's conversation previously, but I digress. They said that a waterheater install was going to be a certain price and they could get out there and do it the next day well they were late and they also tried charging us extra fees for coming out after hours for an estimate that was supposed to be free. They then had pulled the permit for the work when we had not told them for sure whether we were going to use them or not then they tried charging us for the permits etc. after the fact because I had found someone else that was more ethical and could get the job done for much much cheaper and faster as well as more efficient oh and did I mention nicer as well. I WILL NOT EVER RECCOMENT WESTERN HEATING AND AIR TO ANYONE EVEN IF MY LIFE WERE TO DEPEND ON IT. read more

We had our AC go out on Friday night. That night I called and left a message to see if we could get service. I had never used western heating and air before but had a recommendation from family. They called me at 8am Saturday morning and set me up with an appointment that day! Our AC was back up and running before 5pm! The service tech Mike, was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Had Western come out and do Duct Cleaning and sealing after a remodel. Absolutely amazing professionals, both teams went above and beyond to not only clean up the mess from a previous company's attempt but went full geek in trying to chase down the last of the leaks. This company is awful, they say one thing and do another. A technician had pulled the thermostat off the wall, when he did wires had come loose and he was in a rush and left it, with the thermostat hanging, saying call someone else to come out. He obviously didn't understand what he was looking at. When I called someone else they apologized and said they'd send someone at no charge. The next technician that came had to spend some time figuring it out and putting it back on correctly and then guess what, there was a charge. I called to ask why and the attitude of the person was horrible, I was accused off lying, and was not treated very well at all. I'm not sure how an outfit like this can stay in business. read more

Who you gonna call? Western! We noticed a slightly damp odor in one of our bedrooms, and found that the vent to that room was not delivering air. That meant a duct under the house must have come loose. We called Western because two of our neighbors had just had major work done, and were completely satisfied. We told the scheduler we wanted the heating system serviced, in addition to the duct being repaired. Mike came to the rescue that same day! The work was thorough, fast and efficient. Mike offered up a couple of things to consider, and importantly, he noted some water in one corner of the crawl space. Please give me slab construction any day! The best part was the servicing of the heating system. Others had only examined the heat exchanger, a critical part, as a damaged exchanger can allow dangerous carbon monoxide into your home. On top of that, he completely removed the blower motor and housing, and cleaned it outside. A TON of dust blew out! He also checked the startup capacitor that gets the blower going on startup. Mike got his upper body up into the furnace housing (now that the blower was removed) and checked for any additional possible damage to the heating system. He removed the flue and cleaned the combustion residue materials out. He serviced the small motor that keeps a draft on the heat exchanger (for proper combustion). He checked the electrical system with his meter, and adjusted the gas pressure that delivers fuel to the heat exchanger. Bottom line...job well done, Mike! At that point, I knew I wanted Western to service my heating and AC system, and it's a very good deal to have their Blue Ribbon Service! Check it out. read more

The lady would tell me that there is a possibility that someone would come to look at the HVAC... this happend through out the day and then at the end of the day she said they are not coming. Ours was not a simple AC install. The AC in our home had been freezing up and flooding our duct work with excessive condensation. It was an old Freon system and was installed in a way that the newer non-Freon system could not be. The old duct work was too close to the wall to be properly insulated and the crawl space was too tight to offer a lot of options. Western took the job on with a very competitive quote. Their sales person was knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. I did not feel pressured to choose Western; their description of what they would do just made the most sense to me. There were some challenges after the install. Western returned and helped us identify options to resolve those challenges. They stood by their product, promise of quality workmanship, and (most of all) their customer. We are very happy with our new AC system. We would recommend Western without reservations. read more
