I walked in and told Jason I had no how to do it but I wanted to make blueberry wine. Jason took the time to walk me through the process. He suggested a very reasonably prices all inclusive kit. He offered to let me copy a recipe from a book he had but I felt I should support him by buying the book. This is great place and Jason is super helpful. read more

From beginner kits to hard to find ingredients for the advanced brewers. They can use our recipes and also build custom brew batches. They will set you up with freshly ground grains in the hopper as you wait or have it packaged up for pick up. I drove from Bend to Eugene to get stocked up but they also ship to our home. Jason is very customer focused and wants to ensure that you get all the ingredients and information that you need to brew a successful batch of whatever you are fermenting. I'm embarking on a new adventure of brewing my own kombucha and didn't know where to begin. After buying a starter kit at Sundance an employee suggested I head over to Home Fermenter Center to buy all the supplies I needed. I'm so grateful that he did! The employee at Fermenter guided me through every bit of the brewing process and grabbed all the supplies. I felt really taken care of and confident that my kombucha will turn out perfectly. He and his wife brew kombucha as well and he even contacted her with questions that I had. Great customer service. When I venture into brewing other things I'll be back. This store was awesome! I popped in to buy a kombucha scoby and I was out of there in less then five minutes. The employees were super helpful and friendly, and the scoby has been doing awesome! I love the home fermenter center, and have since I started home brewing. I was worried when I had heard that there were new owners taking over. But the new owners are actually easier to talk to then the old owners. They are also improving the place: better malt selection and they are now carrying souring bacterias and yeasts. If you're new to home brewing they also make a mean extract kit! read more

The Home Fermenter Center is old-school mom and pop at its finest. From the outdated 90's era website to the hand written product labels and nostalgic (or just old) decor, this is how a local home brew shop should be! The selection of equipment and ingredients are very good in my opinion. I first ventured into the Home Fermenter Center two years ago when I had an interest in learning how to brew my own beer. Jim (the owner at the time) was very helpful and patient in answering my newbie questions. I settled on a basic beer brewing kit and was on my way. Since then, my skills have slowly progressed and I now know what it means to "sparge" my grains! The business changed hands in early 2014 and is now owned by a younger gentleman. I haven't had a chance to get to know him yet, but he seems very passionate about the business and has a great sense of humor. I'm sure he will begin working on making the business his own, but I hope that he will keep the old-school charm that keeps me coming back. One of my favorite things to do when visiting the Home Fermenter Center is hand-grinding my grains on their 19th century grain mill. There's just something rewarding about grinding your own grains by hand...not to mention the incredible arm workout. Try doing that at one of the newer home brew shops! I can't really speak to the cheese and wine-making aspect of the business as I'm just a beer brewing guy, but I would definitely recommend the Home Fermenter Center to anybody looking to get started in the craft. This is a fantastic place. I started brewing about 15 months ago and this is an ideal place to go for assistance. Owners are extremely friendly and not intimidating. Jason has always been very patient and takes a lot of time to explain things and works to ensure your product comes out excellent. Their pre packaged beer kits, with easy to follow instructions, are ideal for beginners. A bonus is that these kits also produce great beer! I have yet to brew one that didn't please me and my friends. This is the place to go for beginners and experts alike! read more
