Food has been good but I am reluctant to eat there any more. In the restrooms the wash basin still has knob taps instead of the lever ones. These are very unsanitary. If you wipe your butt and get some feces on your hands you turn on the water with this unsanitary hand and need to turn the contaminated knob off with your washed hand. I think these knob taps should be banned from eating establishments. I probably won't eat there again until this has been fixed. read more

Oof. This was a rough one. We were seated immediately but after that, everything moved in slow motion. Our order took over an hour to be delivered to our table. No exaggeration. I wish that I could say it was worth the wait, but the food was horrendous. The eggs were rubbery, without flavor and undercooked. The pancakes were soggy in the middle and the potatoes were just....nasty. The one good thing about the visit was that we could pay our ticket at the table using Apple Pay. So was down in fairview to fix a dump truck on a Sunday nothing was open. Asked at the gas station they said go try Home Plate diner. Me and my brother got chicken fried steak and it was pretty good! I got the chopped potatoes he got hash browns. It was actually really busy on a Sunday morning which was nice to see. I tried this place once on a Sunday when I was traveling through and another one of my favorite diners wasn't open. I must say the food was pretty tasty, once I got relocated within the establishment. Unfortunately, these guys have a building with a large air conditioner that isn't a sound isolated. In the main room, where the people sit, mostly, there is a pervasive and loud hum in that, when the AC was on, my head, felt like it was gonna pop with sound pressure levels, probably in the 90-95 dB range. Most of the locals look like they were used to it, but I had to get moved into another room. I asked the staff about it and they were quite aware. They just dealt with it. I don't think I could eat here again in the summertime due to that problem, but when it cools off a little bit and they don't have to run the AC, they are very nice people and make good food and if you're driving through it's worth a stop. read more

We were starving. Sundays you don't find many places open in Fairview and Mount Pleasant. Tada! We saw this diner. Food was good and the service was great. I was a little intimidated to go in there, but it was all in my head. The people at this diner were great and the service was friendly. I love seeing everyone with their cowboy hats, a bunch of side by side park in front of the restaurant... it is an experience that you don't want to miss. Be prepared to wait for a while. I love their fries and burgers! They have great fry sauce too! Would highly recommend to anyone stopping through town to come here for lunch. One suggestion: make sure the ice is clean before you serve it to customers. Had a cup of water served to me with black, bacterial build-up on the ice cubes. We arrived for lunch. It had a few people but not too busy. First off our waiter was awful, he seemed nice but as for service, he needed major training. He never checked with us once we received the food to make sure everything was okay and tasted fine. Once he passed by we asked for a coffee refill which we never got. After our meal he was nowhere to be found to get our bill. We ended up going up to the register to try and pay and then were overcharged on everything. After a long day fishing it was not worth trying to get a manager and complaining. The food itself wasn't like a Hometown Diner food it was more like at cheap fast food. The quote-unquote quarter pound burger was a Frozen thin Patty. The ham and cheese sandwich had fake cheese that was not even melted. We will definitely not be stopping here again. read more

We stopped there for a late lunch, and had our order taken immediately. There were three other parties already seated, two of whom already had their food. The third got their food and shortly all three groups had finished and left. After nearly 1/2 hour without getting our order, we just got up and left. I told the waitress that we were giving up after waiting that long for a cold turkey sandwich that didn't even need cooking, and she said that it takes about :20 to fix a meal when there is a crowd. I looked around at the totally empty restaurant and said "for a cold turkey sandwich?" Maybe it was because we ordered fries with it. Maybe the food is good. Last Friday my hubby and I ate here for dinner. Didn't appear to be very busy, but a couple who came in after us got up and left. "40 minutes is too long to wait for a meal!" she said. Our meal came in fits and starts. At my request, the waitress finally brought my fruit bowl, set it down and was ready to walk away without bringing silverware. When she brought that she asked, "Will there be anything else?" I answered, "Yes. We'd like our meal." She wasn't concerned and didn't offer to check on it. Meanwhile, other patrons had to get up and ask for simple condiments. Much later the waitress brought me the specialty pancake -- it was larger than the plate! I couldn't figure how to eat it without making a mess with the syrup and requested a larger dish (it was probably 9"...a salad plate I would think.) She said that was their largest one; however, hubby's burger came on a larger oblong platter. The group we had planned on having breakfast with happened to choose that very cafe! I warned them of our poor experience, but they had notified them in advance about our group of perhaps 15, all adults. We showed up exactly on time and eventually the waitress (a different one) got everyone's order. I was hopeful when my order was about the 5th one out. When my hubby, seated next to me, didn't have his an hour later, I told the waitress. His was nearly the very last one she brought out--it took 1 hour, 20 minutes from the time we arrived. If you have lots of time and desire a leisurely meal, definitely stop in. As for me and hubby, we won't be returning. read more

From the 5 second warmed, cheese and ham, to the gallon of oil in my chili, I was left speechless. I simply left, I couldn't even begin to complain it was so bad. We decided to eat some lunch at Home Plate Cafe. The building itself isn't much to write home about. The interior is a typical small town diner. One reason we decided to eat here was the variety of items on the menu. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette with potatoes. Wife ordered a mushroom swiss burger with some dino nuggets and Mac & cheese for the boy. We were all satisfied with our meals. Hard to mess up a ham and cheese omelette or microwave nuggets and easy mac. The wife's burger was good but not great. If you're looking for a decent place to eat between Provo and Manti, you could do worse than Home Plate Cafe. read more

Had the Cowboy burger and it was really good. Service was not good at all. We were planning on having desert after our main meal, but the waitress was too busy talking with all the other staff rather than taking care of the guests. We both had nothing left on our plates so it should have been obvious that we were done with our meals. I tried to get her attention, but all I got was a nod of recognition and then she kept talking to the other wait staff for a few minutes. After she was done talking to the other waiter she proceeded to the back kitchen. after 10 minutes she came out and I finally got her attention enough to give us the check. Incredible little gem that we stumbled on. The burgers were excellent, the fries are the best we've ever had, fresh-cut potatoes fried to perfection. The Reuben sandwich was impeccable, plenty of meat and the sauerkraut was plentiful and cooked perfectly. The surprise hit of the meal was the southern buttermilk pie. It's unbelievable. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews. One time a small business owner responded to my review, and it made me feel guilty, even though my feelings were legitimate. But in the case of this diner, I feel compelled to share my experience, in order to save others from the same heart break. This food is absolutely terrible. I think you'd almost have to try to make food this bad. I feel like if I decided to open a diner tomorrow, with zero experience, I could make tastier food. I knew with one look at this place that it was going to be awful, I even told my wife to order something simple, the writing was on the wall....but she did not heed my warning. Her turkey sandwich looked disgusting. She tried to trade sexual favors in order for me to try a bite, but she would have had to bring in another woman to make it worth while to eat a bite of that slop. She debated hiding her food inside the restaurant like some kind of Mr Bean skit, rather than showing the waitress her entirely full plate. Me, being a man of culture, knew better than to try the turkey at a place like this. I went simple - breakfast. Pancakes, eggs, and bacon. Well I will say this: the bacon is some of the best I've ever had. I'd come back for the bacon. The eggs were okay and the pancakes, well the pancakes were basically inedible. Just a big cakey mass. I'm no cook but I've made better pancakes out of a box with my 2 year old screaming at me the whole time. My wife and I actually decided that the food was so bad, it made the night more enjoyable. I've had many great meals, but it's rare that you have a meal as bad as this. A truly special occasion. My boyfriend and I recently visited Fairview and ate at this cafe more than once as it was directly across the street from our motel. The food is okay and somewhat overpriced, but it's a very small town. After returning home my boyfriend was notified that a large charge was coming through on his AMEX and saw it was for $632 from this cafe. The actual amount we spent here was $32 including tip. He immediately called AMEX to dispute the charge and was told they could see the original charge of $32 but when this cafe sent their receipts in someone wrote a 6 in front of the $32 total my boyfriend had written on the receipt. They fixed the issue and said they would be investigating further. He then contacted the cafe and asked to speak to a manager but of course none was available and despite leaving his name and number no one has called him back, it's been three days. Seems like they have some shady untrustworthy employees and if you want to try and rip someone off, probably not a smart move to increase the charge by $600! read more
