I'm going to be fair here and preface this with the fact that I haven't been back to this place in quite some time. Nothing much has changed... it is still cash or check, which back in 2017 didn't really phase me... but I'm pretty surprised this hasn't changed. I knew the menu prices could never have been what they were nearly 7 years ago but I was surprised even when taking this into account. A chicken parm sandwich plus a peace tea (which really should be somewhere between $0.99 and $1.99) ended up at $18.35. I was totally floored. The $6 sandwich (+ toppings) has nearly tripled in price. $2 per extra topping? I really can't fathom $2 for a little bit of some topping (onions, peppers, whatever). I know things are different but it isn't like I've been under a rock for 7 years. A chicken parm grinder depending on where you go is about $8-$12. I can name 5 delis off the top of my head that can back this up. Let's get to the sandwich itself. It was bad. Way too much breading and soggy. So so soggy. This sandwich had been wrapped up for less than 10 minutes and I nearly pulled out a fork and knife to eat it. I'm so sad. I gave this place 5 stars before. I won't be returning I'm sorry to say. I ordered from a small menu on the counter for 2 Porketa sandwiches with "Gravy". The owner asked if I wanted cheese and I said no. I was going next door and advised him I'd be back in about 10 minutes. He was ok with that. I picked up the sandwiches and paid "cash" for the sandwiches and went home to eat them. To my surprise there was "NO" gravy on them. I called to express my disappointment and he yelled at me and said, "I Asked you if you wanted cheese; which I had said no to. He yelled if I put anymore gravy in it probably would be I'm assuming to messy. I advised him there was NO gravy and the pork was so dry you could choke on it. If he was a fair business man he should have offered for me to come back and add gravy, instead he was yelling defensively. That set me off. I will include a photo for all to judge what you think and where the "Gravy" was!! I've lived in this town 49 years and have been there 3 times. Very defensive! I will NEVER go there again! This world is nuts. I've been supporting a local business Home Plate Deli in Monroe since they opened their doors. Even through Covid I wound call and order weekly. This morning I go to order a sandwich and coffee and one of the owners (shorter guy dark hair) starts on political talk with his buddy's in the store on and how everyone in the FBI is corrupt since there was a recent raid on Trumps house. I made the comment that maybe he shouldn't have taken classified docs from the White House like the national archive has stated and this owner says "I'm full of sh*t, I'm an idiot for not knowing what I'm talking about" and starts yelling at me to get out of his store. Stopped in for lunch. There's a few stools you can eat on but it's mostly grab and go. Friendly counter service. I got a bacon egg and cheese on an English muffin, very good and a lot of egg! I also heard people talking about the pasta fagioli soup so I had to try it, so tasty on a cold day! I stopped in here to speak with someone about catering a party. I cannot begin to describe how nice they are here. When I asked for a catering menu the owner..I think it was the owner, had run out and said he'd go next door to have a copy made for me. I mean that is above and beyond. When the copy person was not in, he gave me his own menu and said he'd have another one made for him. Meanwhile one of the customers heard me speaking to him and told me this is the best deli in town and he eats there once or twice a DAY. I was one happy camper at this place. I just did not know about them before. In addition to fresh Deli and bread brought in from the Bronx (can't beat THAT) they have these yummy cookies for a dollar a cookie. You get your choice of Chocolate Chip or M&M Chocolate Chip. They are utterly yummy. I will be adding this place to my "go to" list as they are close to me and the service, menu and kindness displayed by owner makes them really stand out. Definitely recommended. read more

I really used to love this deli. The guys are super nice, and the sandwiches are usually very good but the Trump bootlicking is really unfortunate. However, I simply cannot afford to get lunch here anymore, their prices have gotten absurd. One grinder and a bottle of soda cost me $18.30! I understand everything is pricey, but I can't justify blowing $20 bucks (cash only,too) on lunch for myself. Also, the place has gotten absolutely filthy inside. read more

They always make a great sandwich but after observing the cleanliness of the customer area of this establishment while waiting for my order to be prepared gave me second thoughts about returning. The floors are filthy the walls appear to be as dirty as the floors and upon check out I looked at the white cash register covered with black filth on the face / keypad and decided to never return again. I work nearby and was telling a coworker how hard it is to get a decent chicken parmesan grinder. She sent me to Home Plate Deli and I got the grinder of my dreams! The chicken was cooked while I waited. The sauce excellent, and the grinder roll was very fresh with the perfect crust. The two owners couldn't have been friendlier. My family has been going to this wonderful deli since it opened. They hit a "home run" (har har har) when it comes to serving up solidly delicious NYC Italian style deli delights. But everyone else in the are knows that too, so watch out -- they get very busy! My suggestion is to phone your order in to avoid waiting time. Their sandwiches just can't be beat. They are EXTREMELY generous with their portions on their sammies, so don't worry about getting cheated out of a decent sandwich! And all of their food, be it a simple bologna and cheese sandwich, or their more complicated deli dishes, are made with the best deli ingredients available. Which means even IF you get a simple bologna and cheese sandwich (can you tell that's my regular order?), you're going to taste the quality. The staff is pleasant and brisk with the often busy crowd that frequents Home Plate. There are less than half a dozen chairs inside, IF that, so there really isn't room to stay and eat; it's really more take-out only. Prices are in the median range for a deli of this caliber and in this particular area, but really worth it. read more

Fantastic. This place is one of those that makes you drool when thinking about it, even 10,000 miles away. Walk into the homeplate, look on the wall to the right and that's all you need.
