They just unfortunately cannot get things right. I ordered a graduation cake, a stuffed bread and a dozen rolls for a party and sent a relative to pick it up. She came home with only the cake which was infuriating as I had guests coming in two hours and we don't live particularly close but on the other side of town. When I called their first excuse was that I put in two separate orders. I did not. They finally admitted they decided to do two orders (it wasn't that big so not sure why). They should have reverenced on each order that there were two orders but didn't. I asked them to send someone with the rest of my order and they refused. Their solution was that I ask one of my guests to go pick it up. That's insane. My guests don't know their way around and how inconsiderate would it be to send them on a 45 minute journey when they arrived to the party? It wasn't on anyone's way at all. Their next solution was to give me a refund of the part they held back. No. I absolutely needed those items and the biggest issue with that was that the last time they messed up and overcharged me, they couldn't refund me on the spot but said they'd have a credit behind the counter for me. When I went to use that credit, conveniently no one had any knowledge of said credit. Absolutely do not trust them. I had to pay a neighbor to go pick it up for me. I don't have complaints about the food this time but it's only average - it was my daughter that wanted a sickly sweet frosting (think Pillsbury from a can) that I couldn't find at any other bakery. I will never take my chances with them again. They've now messed up two parties. read more

The best hard rolls around! There were several people in front of us on a Sunday but our wait was maybe a minute. The staff was very friendly and did not rush us as we drooled over the cases full of treats! They have salt sticks on Sundays which was a great treat! Third time the bread I purchased was stale crumbs falling all over the kitchen table when I opened the loaf. Today I ordered a sandwich on a hard roll, same thing... the crust fell off all over and the roll was hard. I asked what time the bread comes out of the oven so I could get a warm loaf. I was told you can't get a warm loaf that way. I wouldn't be surprised if bread is not actually baked there. I'm very dissapointed. read more

I love supporting local businesses but Purdy Hill needs to make some changes. I am so sad to have to write this because it used to be my go-to for cakes, holiday desserts, and even deli sandwiches. Now I can't see myself returning at all unless I am desperate. Big Y has better prices, more fresh, delicious baked goods and better service to be honest. Some examples: They definitely use day old bread for sandwiches. A Turkey sandwich on a Portuguese roll should not be hard to chew and crumble to bits when you bite into it. The desserts, especially individual ones, look far better than they taste. The bonbons are just chunks of dry old cake with ganache on top. Service wise, there is one worker who nastily shouted at me and another customer that the "day old" bread they put out on the day old bread rack was in fact NOT day old and full price. THEN DO NOT OUT IT OUT. Simple. She was in a hurry to clean the bread racks and was sullen and rude the entire time. Every time we go to Purdy Hill, we are pleased with the selection and quality. Today I purchased fruit tarts for my children and a special treat. They were fresh with a creamy custard and flakey cake bottom. Delicious! The cannolis are superb. We have never had a cheesecake from there that we didn't enjoy. Just went today to pick up a few items they are open during this time of Covid. We tried an assortment of cookies, mini strawberry cheesecake, Napoleon, brownie, and cannoli cookie. The cannoli cookie I wasn't very fond of it's a sugar cookie sandwich with cannoli cream In it. The cookie seems to drown out the yummy cannoli cream. The mini cheesecake was light and airy and had strawberry on top. The Napoleon was our fave it wasn't to sweet but it was very tasty and a very large portion. We will be back. This is quite a bakery. Huge selection of cookies, cakes, pastries you name it. There is also green mountain coffee available! It was my first time here. I was astounded by the variety honestly. Prices were neither very high nor very low. I bought what I needed, which in my case, was an assortment of cookies for a small group of people. But oh how I would have liked one of those delicious looking cakes! I am giving them a 3 because of a few things. First off, I almost could not find them. GPS took me wrong way. They are tough to spot if you have not been here. They are NOT in Walmart or Walgreens. Do not make the mistake I almost did, thinking they are. And the lines..the lines..Patience must be had when you come to this bakery. It was pretty slow going. It takes a long time in here so it seems. I was fine with waiting honestly because I was in awe over all the picture perfect sweets. The staff were really cool I must say. They were the best. But the cookies..they have no taste. Yesterday was my first time going. I went in to pick up some pastries for a meeting at work. I told the young woman behind the counter (I wish I asked her name because she was great) that I wanted some assorted pastries for 12-15 people and that I had never been there before, so some recommendations would be great. She recommended some amazing treats and even cut them in half so they could be easily shared. The service was spot on, and my co-workers thoroughly enjoyed the treats! read more

Purchased a graduation cake here for over $60 and I'd give it an average rating at best if the cake cost $30. They could of done so much more it looked like they were doing the bare minimum and then looking on to the next order. The only reason I gave it a 2 star is because it tasted okay. I would only recommend this place if you were unable to secure an order at a really good place. The one thumbs up I'll give them is if you need a last minute cake and find one in the preprepared case that looks acceptable. read more

Absolutely terrible. Had a 3 tier cake for my daughters grad party, they delivered it cracked open. Then said they'd be back with it fixed...they called 3 hrs later saying they couldn't fix it and that they were going to give me a big sheet cake. They ended up delivering the 3 tier cake disassembled and a complete mess. We tried to cut into it but was just icing barely any cake. Whole thing went in the garbage. We ordered a cake for our daughter's 14th birthday and were expecting to get a fresh edible cake. When we cut into the cake the bottom level was as solid as a rock, the top layer was as dry as sand and the frosting had no flavor. The cake tasted as though it had been sitting on a shelf for a month. I called the bakery to explain their obvious misstep and was told that it was freshly baked which I just can't believe. I was then told to gather the remnants, bring it back and get a "partial" refund for the amount of cake that wasn't thrown away. Eh. Good pastries. Everything else needs work First off, staff should have pool shirts or at least a grey tshirt. The white tshirts make it obvious that some staff members dont do laundry on a regular basis. Second, measley portions for breakfast sandwiches. You have to pay extra and get double everything to get a decent amount. Third? They are limited on what they make. I like a certain kind of pastry and I learned they only make 1 of each kind of pastry per weekday and 2 on weekends. Purdy Hill bakery reminds me of our neighborhood bakery growing up. This place has it all! I went in on a Friday looking for an assortment of baked goods for a Women's Conference I was attending. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a selection of everything I wanted and more. I got cookies, cupcakes and other baked goods and everyone LOVED them! Everything was delicious and fresh. I will definitely return when ordering specialty cakes. Ohh I can't forget to mention the coffee was fresh and the customer service was 5 stars! When he went to pick up the cake on my birthday, the cake price was EVEN HIGHER and they didn't even write what he asked them to on the cake. They didn't write anything at all on the cake. Cupcakes were horrible. Stopped in on my way home to get a half dozen cupcakes. Some smelled like a freezer, may have been frozen. At a minimum they picked up an odor from the refrigerated case they're stored in. All of them had tasteless cake and the frostings tasted the same, regardless of whether they were supposed to be chocolate or vanilla. This is my local bakery. The baked goods that are actually made "in house" are usually pretty good. Many of the cookie items are not made there and taste as though they've been pulled from a box and put on the display tray. The cannoli's are fresh and tasty. My favorite items are the pumpkin pie squares sold in the fall. The downfall of this place? UGH. The staff behind the counter. They all appear as though they couldn't care less that they make you wait, and wait, and wait, while they move at a snail's pace to fill an order. It's insane in the morning. If you are in line and the guy before you orders a cooked breakfast sandwich, the person serving them literally "goes in the back" and makes the sandwich for them. While you, and everyone behind you, waits and waits.Why isn't there a person dedicated to cooking sandwiches? That way everyone else can be quickly waited on while they just grab a coffee and their accompanying baked goods and go. There is no sense of urgency for the employees. I frequently see folks waiting in line just exit because....the wait!!! And the staff just shrugs it off. However, if you walk in and no one else is in line, go for it!
