He was able to get the part we needed that day and complete the job. He gave us a tip on using WD40 silicone for our windows, showed us how and where to apply. Ed, the window repair guy is busy!!! He's based in Ventura, but his service area includes Santa Barbara. When you call, you will typicall get Batya. I don't know if she's Ed's wife or his girl Friday, but Batya is as talented at organizing all Ed's jobs as Ed is at fixing windows!!! They are both the kindest, nicest people and they do great window repairs. All the windows in my house are about 20 years old and the folks who put them in cheaped out by putting counterweights in them that were too light. For 2 decades, I could hardly open the windows in my house. Some were soooo heavy, that they'd only stay about halfway up. When one spring finally broke, I found Ed on Yelp (thanks, Yelp!). He told me why my windows were so hard to lift and since then, he's now fixed 6-8 windows in my house, which is so much breezier than it was, now that the window open all the way! I wanted to wait for a while before I left a review so that I could make sure I was happy with the work that was done. It has been about 6 months now, so here goes... My wife and I recently purchased a house that was built in 1929. One of the first things we wanted to have done was to get rid of our old beat up windows, many of which had cracked panes, termite rot, broken frames, etc. We looked into about 8 companies and decided we would get new, energy efficient windows put in. When it came time for the permits, the city and the historical society could not come to an agreement, so we looked for other options. As fate would have it, the next day a coworker showed me a newspaper article about Ed, who does nothing but repairs old windows. I immediately called and scheduled an appointment, and within a few weeks, he was fixing our windows. Ed and his assistant did fantastic work. They removed each window sash and went to work making sure they were solid, installed new panes for the really bad cracks, and installed new hardware. One window was so termite infested that it needed to be replaced. The replacement was a perfect match to the rest of the windows. Ed even took the time to show me a few tricks for glazing and painting, in case I ever wanted to give it a try myself in the future. Every one of my windows is now useable, and I was able to keep the original charm of our house instead of getting the tacky looking vinyl windows that we had originally sought out to get. As an added bonus, Ed's work came at a fraction of the price of new windows. Above all, Ed and his assistant were professional, honest, clean and fair. They were right on time each day, finished the work in the amount of time quoted, and there was never any hassle when it came to billing. This business has my highest recommendation. Our 1920s house in downtown Santa Barbara has tall double hung windows. Ed Sanchez and his assistant Cole got four windows that were stuck and broken restored to full function and weatherstripped in a timely fashion, even though one was out of square and difficult to fix. We own a house in Ojai built in 1907. Mostly it has original double hung windows. After years and years of overpainting and bad adjustments, many of our windows didn't open or were counter-weighted completely wrong. The ones that opened we had to battle or they flew open out of control. I could not find a contractor who would take on the repair job. No one wanted to deal with old windows. I considered modern replacements but we wanted to keep the originals. Enter Ed Sanchez and Home Window Repair, whom I found through an article Ventana Magazine. We did our windows a few at a time, which worked best for us. So Ed and his guys were in and out over several months. Ed and his crew are fantastic. They are very very polite, quiet and communicative. They are very very clean and respectful of the fact that they are now part of your living space. Though each window seemed to have its own set of repair challenges, Ed and his guys got them all going again. Ed's knowledge was fantastic for getting various elements of each window back to the way it was designed to be. A reminder: by having this work done, there will probably need to be both inside and outside touchup painting. A lot of the problems for us were just too much paint which had to be removed - sometimes to the wood window frame. It's inevitable and part of the journey. I HIGHLY recommend Ed and his crew as craftsmen - and as really good people. We actually looked forward to their arrival in the mornings, as did our dogs by the way, who were also very fond of them (That matters to us, too!). read more
