We took a family trip to Phoenix Arizona, staying in the San Tan area. There are only a few hotels located in the area and Home2 Suites by Hilton Gilbert is one of them! Our family had such a great time at this hotel. We had arrived late on a Wednesday evening, around 10:00 P.M. Check-in was pretty easy though. The team member at front provided us [2] physical cards and informed us of when breakfast was served, on each day, including the start/end time. Cleaning is not offered unless you stay for 5 days or if you request it. You can ask for extra towels and soaps at the front desk though. There is on-site laundry and a relatively nice gym too! Outside the hotel is a firepit and several chairs to sit in. The hotel room was nice. We had a king bed with a pull out sofa bed. There was a divider that you could put between both beds. The hotel room also included a full functioning kitchen. It had a microwave, refrigerator, sink and much more! The hotel room did have old AC units to control the temperature in the room. The bathrooms were nice though! It only included a shower, no bathtub. The bathroom doors are hard to use. It has a unique locking mechanism and can be relatively difficult to open or close. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Home2Suites by Hilton Gilbert. This will be out go-to hotel location if we're back in the San Tan area again!

Bugs!!!

Price was ok. Cleanliness was not good. Hairs in the shower and on our 2nd night we noticed 4 black bugs in the bathroom. When I checked the rest of the room the next morning there were 9 of them all over the room. Not even sure what type of bugs they were?? Just slow moving lil black bugs.

The thermostat that stopped working and left me with no ac. -_-

First room - the chair was disgustingly dirty, the ac stopped working and when I went downstairs to tell the front desk (because no one was answering the phone) everyone was M.I.A. It took nearly 1/2 hour before anyone came back and when he finally returned his response was "I'm not an engineer." This literally has nothing to do with anything. There is a setting on the thermostat that needed to be reset, which is done by hotel personnel, not an engineer. His offer was to switch rooms, but I had already used an entire can of Lysol disinfecting that room, so I had to sleep all sweaty in a stuffy, hot room all night. Second room was full of dog urine stench, a broken shower door, and the doors on the kitchen sink and dishwasher were broken as well. Apparently, they didn't have a maintenance/repair person to fix all of the broken doors, but I was told someone would be coming to clean the carpet. After 2 weeks no one ever came. This is completely unacceptable. They got 2 stars because Monica at the front desk tried her best to help as much as she could. I emailed the general manager after the first incident. It has now been 3 weeks and that person has never responded to me or acknowledged my issues. Not that it matters, but I am a Hilton Diamond member, meaning I've stayed an incredible amount of nights at Hilton properties, so I can say that this is one of the worse experiences I've ever had with the Hilton brand. Stayed here for my thanksgiving vacation at my uncles. The front desk was friendly and polite and assisted us quickly. The room was nice and cozy. The room comes with a microwave and a good size fridge to store your food. It also comes with a pull out table if you wanted to eat inside your room. It also has a pull out couch if you have extra guest or kids with you. The only thing I didn't like was it was a little smelly inside the room like someone left a large amount of dirty clothes in a hamper and there was also a small stain on the blanket. But other than that this place was great to stay at.

Kitchen area as you enter a queen studio suite

When doing an extended stay and trying Home 2 Suites for the very first time, I was overall impressed for the value vs cost. The pros: -Rooms are like little studio apartments (this location; some locations have one-bedroom suites). There is a fold-out sofa and ottoman. Some locations offer only queen beds, some offer only kings, some offer both (this location I believe offers both bed-types and then of course there are also double suites with two beds.) -good breakfast! -they are cat and dog friendly but there is a fee (likely for cleaning) -they DO clean the carpets in between stays. I saw the maintenance man with a carpet machine a few times (this is more than I can say for a Hampton I stayed at previously) -semi-full kitchen. There are utensils, plates, cookware, and they have a fridge bigger than a mini size fridge, but not a full-size fridge. There is a dishwasher and a full size microwave. It is not a full kitchen however as there is no cooktop but I believe I have heard some say you can borrow an induction cooktop from guest services. -This particular location has LG 42" hdtv's with DirecTV. You can swivel the tv to aim toward the bed or the living area. -ironing board and closet space to hang shirts -hanging divider for privacy though this appears so thin you can see through it so I'm not sure I understand the point in the event I had someone with me. -desk area for working and roll-away table which could be used for various tasks Cons: -Each h2s location from what I see varies decor but pastel blue and bright orange lamps do not go with darker shades nor flow well with the bathroom, kitchen or living area. I get what they are trying to go for here with 'light and bright' but it really doesn't look all too good. Just sayin' -This location could use some etiquette training for their housekeepers. Many times they seemed to be in their own little world, walking around with headphones and glued to their smart phones in between cleaning rooms. I don't expect them to be my friends, but I found this kind of rude. When a guest is near and stopping on various floors they could at least say hello. A smile here and there goes a long way too. To a housekeeper reading this; politeness goes a long way as does cleaning ethic especially if you would like to receive tips. Believe it or not some of us guests do understand it's not the most enjoyable job but you don't catch flies with vinegar. Effort does go a long way and politeness and cleaning ethic will be rewarded by those who do take notice. The next area to suggest improvement -cleanliness. The property as a whole seems to be decently cared for. The guest registration area outdoors where cars pull up could use a good pressure washing, but the breakfast area/lobby, fitness center/laundry area was kept pretty clean as was the pool and patio area. The rooms could use a little more TLC. Mainly, I found dust in several areas such as on the plate rack, paper-towel holder, ontop of the microwave and table lamps both next to the bed and sofa. I mentioned this to the manager Kevin and he communicated it but the maid somehow missed it on her initial visit to my room. In fairness she came back and wiped 1/4 of the plate rack and left and at that point I just did it myself with the kitchen sponge and some soapy water. Now granted, I'm not a germaphobe but if Hilton prides itself on cleanliness then there is no reason things like this should be missed. Because if dust is missed how can we be sure what else was? I will say the bed sheets and other areas were clean. I know others have complained about dirty sheets but I did not personally experience a problem in this area. The shade to cover the window, though effective at blocking out the Arizona sun, is frankly not a good idea in my opinion. In the room I was in, it saw better days and this was one of the first things I noticed when I checked in is that it was crinkled from coming out of the tracks previously. There were some parts of it that appeared to even have holes. I did report it to the front desk. Not a deal breaker per-see but an eye-sore nonetheless in an otherwise good looking room. Jonathan and Kevin, as well as the maintenance crew were friendly as were the breakfast attendants. There was an issue with the TV pixeling and freezing upon settling in my room but after reporting it to Kevin at the front desk, maintenance came quick to replace the faulty cable and the issue was resolved. As I stated earlier about housekeeper etiquette; courtesy, politeness and professionalism goes a long way despite any other flaws. Conclusion: All in all, a decent stay. Have had better but have also had worse. If they can work on improving the few things mentioned above in regards to cleaning, they would be an excellent property. I honestly believe all hotels need to end the every four-days cleaning policy (unless the guest states no service) as I believe it is for this reason the cleanliness has slipped.

Piece of chocolate in gross corner by couch
Alfonso M.

Severely disappointed. Finding hairs in places in our room and bathroom, and pieces of chocolate on the floor in the corner by the couch. I'm grossed out. House keeping did a lousy job. My previous stay I also noticed sloppy work by house keeping. Not sure I'll stay here again. The guy at the front desk is courteous, nice dude. He remembered us from the last time. House keeping needs to be re-oriented, if you ask me. I'm adding more. A chair in our room is so gross!! Check out piece of chocolate in corner. Hairs too gross to take pic of, yuck! My 11 year said, "we keep finding things the longer we're in here"

Endless amounts of shampoo and soap. Love this so much better then those little bottles. No conditioner sm bottle given.

I found this hotel when searching for a kitchen location. This hotel is BRAND new in fact I was the first guest to bring a pet! I love Hilton properties but I am in love with the Home2Suites. These rooms are perfect for the traveling family as they have full kitchens. They don't have a stove but they come with full size refrigerator, all your pots and pans, silverware, and 2 top burner can be requested for you room at the front desk. I needed this as I moved from TN to AZ and had a ton of stuff. The room I stayed in has a queen bed, with sofa bed, and kitchen. It has a table that runs all the way way down one side of the wall. One area for computer or desk, then dining table if needed. Tons of little pockets on Wall to put groceries or in my case boxes. This location is right off Val Vista and the 202. If you go up to the Gilbert exit which takes about 2 minutes you will find a WestCoast must....In and Out Burger!! In that same shopping center is a Walmart where you can get your groceries for the room. Tons of great restaurants and shopping in this area! Keep in mind this hotel has a breakfast as well. They have a waffle machine, bagels, yogurt, cereal, and a little fridge that allows you to make some breakfast sandwiches (pre-made just heat in micro). They also have a great fitness center, pool, and BBQ grills. Pet fee is $75 non-refundable, they don't charge for parking, they will place a $30 Incidental hold on your card for the stay as well. Staff was amazing and I will be back again if needed!

Coffee and tea are complimentary while water bottles in the room are $3 per bottle unless booked through Hilton as a member. The room is spacious and the window has a two-set shade for lighting control instead of curtains. It comes equipped with a smart TV that can be hooked up to services like Netflix, Apple TV and more. If your stay is short, five days or less, and do not require housekeeping, it's best to forego the service. Trash can be easily left outside of the room or brought to the bins by the parking areas. We returned to our room on the third day, after skipping service on the second day, with fresh towels even though the towels were hung. The bed was made although with not so fresh sheets. You can most certainly tell it wasn't. It wasn't dirty to begin with, but it would've been nice to have gotten fresh sheets. The concierge staff continued to be warm and courteous at checkout as well. I won't mind staying here again.

I don't like that you can't find a menu of the restaurant anywhere online and have to go in to see it but the food is delicious! There was a massive gap under my room door which made it extremely loud and I could hear everything this was happening in the hallway crystal clear. Same with my neighboring room which walls seem to be paper thin and I could hear their conversations as well. I would urge that these sound issues be fixed before I ever think about coming back to this hotel.

Overall, this location was good, but it could definitely use some updates. The bathrooms felt a bit outdated, and the layout was a little awkward. The bathroom door swings open so close to the toilet that it comes within about an inch of hitting it when closing. I think a sliding door would be a much better use of the space and make the bathroom feel more functional. I also wasn't a fan of the shower, as it didn't look as clean or well-maintained as we're used to seeing at other Hyatt locations. Unfortunately, our comforter also had stains on it when we arrived. That said, the outstanding customer service made a big difference. Staff and housekeepers were nice and friendly. Shout out to Julio at the front desk who was exceptional! He was genuinely friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. After I called about the stained comforter, he personally brought us a fresh one right away since housekeeping had already left for the day. That level of attentiveness and willingness to help was greatly appreciated. Hyatt is lucky to have Julio on their team. He truly turned what could have been a disappointing stay into a much better experience. While the property itself could benefit from some upgrades, employees like Julio are what make guests want to come back.

When we checked in, I verified we were there for medical reasons and asked what the rate was. He said we would get it at checkout. I have never stayed in a hotel that would not tell me the rate upfront. He ran my CC, but said it would not be charged until we checked out. (I did not prepay) Upon check out, the GM, Tammy would not honor the medical discount. She said because I made the reservation via Expedia, she could not give me the discount (even though I called ahead, and was told when we checked in that we would be on a medical discount rate). Luckily it was only a 3-night stay - but I was mad enough with just those days being at a higher rate. House keeping did not clean our room on the scheduled day. Although we will need to return in 6 months, location is perfect - close to medical facility and restaurants... We will never return to this hotel.

If you're looking for an easy and convenient space to stay, I recommend. I mean I think most people know what they are getting with a Residence Inn, but just in case the nice thing is you do get a small kitchen and there is usually some living space separate from the bed.
