I am a Marriott member and have points and an established loyalty account with Marriott, so I am familiar with the brand and generally know what level of accommodation to expect. This was my first stay at this particular location.
I want to give credit where credit is due because my experience with the staff was completely different from my experience with the condition of the hotel itself.
First, I want to recognize Kadance from housekeeping. She was such a sweet and hardworking young lady, and my room was clean. Housekeeping absolutely did their job. I also want to recognize the lady who handled breakfast. She was wonderful, sweet, hospitable, and hardworking. The breakfast was basic hotel food with things like eggs, waffles, cereal, and other standard options, but it was actually decent, and the sausage was especially good. She worked hard to keep the breakfast area clean, and after guests finished eating, the area was spotless.
I also want to give credit to the front desk employee who was working the night I had to switch rooms. Unfortunately, I did not get her name, but she was very patient, sweet, and understanding. I believe she was also there the following morning when I checked out. She handled the situation professionally and made the room change much easier.
I honestly did not have a negative interaction with any member of the staff during my stay. Management was nice as well. The people working at this hotel were wonderful.
That is why I want to be very clear that my issues are with the condition of the property itself, not the employees.
My original room was 426. I encountered small winged insects in the room that appeared to be termites. I did a Google photo match because I wanted to identify what they were. There were trees directly outside the room, so I understand that pests can sometimes be an issue, but I was uncomfortable and requested a room change. I was moved to Room 429. I do not blame housekeeping for the pest issue.
In Room 426, I also noticed what appeared to be mold or mildew on the ceiling directly above the bed. I cannot say with certainty which one it was because I did not have it professionally tested, but there were visible spots across the ceiling and the discoloration was very noticeable. It looked as though someone may have sprayed or treated the spots in an attempt to make them fade, but they were still clearly visible. Seeing that directly above the bed was extremely unsettling and added to my concerns about the condition of the room.
My biggest complaint is that the hotel itself feels severely outdated and badly in need of renovation. Once you get upstairs onto the floors with carpeting, there is a noticeable musty smell. The carpeting smells musty, and the overall atmosphere feels old and stale.
The rooms may be cleaned, and the air conditioning worked well, but there is only so much cleaning can do when the actual property is worn down. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and felt old and worn out. I could feel the springs, and the mattress and box spring desperately need to be replaced.
The bathroom was also badly outdated. The old wallpaper needs to go. It collects every little splash, speck, and piece of debris, and the entire bathroom needs a complete renovation. The paintwork also looked poorly maintained and in need of attention.
Even the furniture was worn down. The wooden stand holding the refrigerator and microwave was chipped and damaged. Everywhere I looked, something seemed old, chipped, worn, or outdated.
I will say again that my room was vacuumed very well and housekeeping kept it clean. I personally just did not feel comfortable putting my belongings on the floor because of the overall condition of the room. Even my shoes stayed off the floor. That is not a reflection of housekeeping. Kadance did her job.
The front desk was made aware of the issues, and accommodations were made, which I appreciate. The staff was patient, understanding, and professional throughout my stay.
But unfortunately, great employees can only do so much. This hotel needs serious investment. The carpets need to be replaced or removed. The bathrooms need a complete overhaul. The beds and box springs need to be replaced. The worn and chipped furniture needs to be replaced.
It is disappointing because the staff were genuinely wonderful. Housekeeping deserves 5 stars. The breakfast staff deserves 5 stars. The front desk employee who helped me switch rooms was patient, sweet, and understanding. Management was nice as well. I truly have no complaints about the people.
