My dog that was rescued from a Animal Shelter, Sadie had a year of microchip service paid for. Somehow they still have her listed as Sierra. I tell them, "Her name is Sadie." Their response? "Oh, you'll need to take her to a vet, fire department, or somewhere to have her scanned, get documentation, take photos, have the person keep copies and send everything to us." Excuse me? You typed the wrong name. Why am I suddenly conducting a full CSI: Microchip Investigation? Apparently changing a shelter dog's name is groundbreaking technology that has never been attempted before in the history of pet ownership. At this point, I half expect them to request fingerprints, DNA samples, a blood oath, and three witnesses before they'll admit that Sadie is no longer named Sierra. read more

Very poor customer service and unsatisfactory product. I called to cancel my Home Again service after several years with them as the just today billed my renew. They cancelled the service however I was informed it takes up to 48 days. Just so we're clear FORTY EIGHT DAYS to get the money put back on the card! The product is so early 2000's compared to what's out there now. You can get a tag that gives the exact location. The only thing Home Again does is send out an email to people with the service that your dog is lost. If your dog happens to be scanned at a vet they have the information. I would locate my dog and go get them IF they ever got out which has never happened in 25+ years. read more

Let me tell you about my experience with @HomeAgain microchip registry so you know exactly what you're signing up for when you trust them with your pet's safety. I found a dog. She's microchipped with Home Again. I scanned her, called them at 3AM - and someone actually answered. I thought, wow, they're really on it. I felt good about it. Spoiler: that was the last useful thing they did. Here is what they WERE able to tell me: Her name is Sage. Again, it was 3:00 in the morning. I figured I could get additional information the following afternoon, if needed. Nope. Her name would be all I would get. I called back at 5PM to check on whether her family had been reached, they cut me off before I could even finish telling them why I was calling. Didn't want to know which dog. Didn't want to know who I was. Just immediately launched into what they COULDN'T tell me: Whether they actually reached her owner Whether the phone number on file even works Whether the email on file bounced or was just ignored What area she's even registered in - so for all I know her family is in another state desperately searching. Their advice, less than 24 HOURS after I first called them? "If nobody has reached out to you, the next step is to call animal control and have them pick up the dog." I'm sorry - WHAT? I found someone's dog. I did the right thing. I called YOUR service that people PAY FOR specifically so their lost pet can be reunited with them. And your answer is to dump her at a shelter because you can't be bothered to confirm whether you even made contact? Home Again, you are absolutely worthless as a reunification service. You are a database that takes money and provides zero accountability or transparency when it actually matters. You had ONE job. I will never - not for any of my own animals - register with Home Again. Not after seeing firsthand how little you do when a lost dog's life is on the line. Do better. I signed up, paid for the chip, when basic service after that was free. A few years later, they tried to shake me down for a subscription and threatened to end my coverage. When I passed on that, they deleted my dog's information and he could no longer be found in their database. Clearly they were trying to bully people into a pay service before they sold out to Merck. As far as I am concerned, this is an unethical company and I will never recommend them. On the bright side, what I learned from my vet is that as long as you keep the microchip number, you can re-register it with a different pet location company. Please be aware that Home Again will not register your pet unless you pay for the yearly subscription service as well. Your vet will not know this. So the vet will charge you for the microchip, you will try to register the pet, and at the end of the process, Home Again will demand $20 for a yearly subscription. Unless you pay up, your microchip is worthless. I tried working this out with them and got a bunch of word salad from the reps and generic emails that weren't even asking my questions. Shame, this seems to be a new thing it's doing. I'd registered plenty of cats before this (I'm a rescuer) with no issues. If you want to microchip your pet and pay one time only, then do research on which chips allow this and find a vet who uses that chip. read more

Merck Animal Health is the parent company of Home Again, the microchip company that all vets seem to use, including mine. I like this company and their innovations that result in pets being reunited with their owners. That is why is is so discouraging that they are engaging in misleading letters to its customers. The microchip comes with a one time fee. If you want enhanced services, there is a yearly "membership" fee. In their letters, they imply that you must "renew" your membership in order to continue coverage. This has been going on for years. And, whenever I receive these letters, I call customer service to verify that my pets are still covered. The agent today said, "you do not need to pay the yearly fee in order to protect your pets." If there was another service, I would use it. I will be reporting these practices to our vet and hope there is an alternative to this company. C'mon Home Again....you should be better than this! read more

I registered and paid for my new rescue to be added to this site incase she ever got lost. I accidently put the last number of her microchip in wrong. Instead of a 9 I put an 8. There was no where to edit this. I emailed customer service about this. They told me to go to the nearest vet and get her scanned and then send proof of her number. I told them we just flew here from the country we rescued her from and that I have a text message from the vet themselves confirming her Microchip number. I sent them a screen shot of the message from the vet with her microchip number. They still told me to go to a vet and have her scanned and upload proof. I said I was not spending a vet visit or taking a day off from work to do this. I sent them proof and they wont change one number for me? And why is there no place for me to edit it? People make mistakes. I won't be using them in the future. Unfortunately I lost my $20 for the year for registering her but its useless because they won't correct the last number of her chip for me. My dog passed away almost 3 years ago and they keep charging my account. I know my wife canceled the autopay last year and we were pretty sure it was canceled the year before also. I talked to customer service and they refused to stop the autopay unless I agree to their privacy policy. I don't agree to their privacy policy. I registered my cat's microchip with Home Again and marked him as lost a year ago. Last week I received an email stating that someone was requesting a transfer of information on my cat! i.e., someone found my cat and wanted to register him as their cat! But instead of notifying me that my cat was found, HA asked me to approve this transfer. I immediately called and said NO I DO NOT APPROVE TRANSFER and asked who has my cat?! Well not only would HA not tell me who has him, they went ahead and approved the transfer! Why??? They could not answer. My vet used HomeAgain for microchip services; unfortunately, this company is the worst. I have been trying for almost 2 years to get my pet's information into my account. The process to register your pet using the microchip number is laughable... honestly if you can't register yourself it shouldn't even be an option to do. I have yet to hear a success story of someone being able to register their pet on their own. Each time I call I am put on home for a minimum of 30 minutes. The phone quality is horrible... every time I've spoken to a rep I either have to turn the phone volume up all the way, or it's so spotty that I can't even hear what they are saying. Although I ended up finding my cat the old fashioned way... searching, Home Again provided services that helped me feel like I was doing everything to bring my boy home. I'd let our membership lapse because mine are indoor only cats. But today, 24 hours after my sweet boy escaped, Dylan helped re-establish my membership for both of my boys. Effective immediately. That was a huge relief. Then they sent Lost Pet alerts to shelters, vets, and other Home Again customers. They took care of that, which gave me time to hunt the woods again, and I found my boy! Two evenings ago, I found a one inch wound on his back and could see his flesh. I called and talked to their veterinarian and sent her some photos. She said that I needed to take my dog to the vet within 24 hours. I was able to take his to the vet the following day. The wound had been infected and it turned out to be infected requiring five stitches and using some other techniques to close the six inch wound. HomeAgain was unaware Darryl had died. That was the headline they chose to try to upsell me an extra $22 worth of services that they have a reputation of not providing. They will not help find your lost pet. They will not find any veterinary care that isn't already in your search engine. They will try to charge your card after you have opted out. As a subsidiary of Merck, and a $4.6 billion company on its own, HomeAgain is running quite a scam. Free chips to shelters and vet clinics. HomeAgain then uses the database to make unsolicited contacts attempting to sell extra benefits for extra money. Benefits that, if you read the reviews, do not materialize. Bill Gates would be so proud of HomeAgain -- this is the business model Microsoft used to make Windows the most common operating system in the world. MS gave away Windows, then used the registration data to sell additional software. We all know what Bill Gates is worth, and what an oxymoron "Microsoft works" is. I already have notified the local shelters that I will not use HomeAgain should I eventually adopt another pet. Don't implant it without asking first. Complete scam. They send you a "renewal" bill stating that your pet's microchip is "expiring," and that you need to immediately pay them. There is nothing I'm required to "renew" for my pets' chips. Their letter to me was dated February 12, and indicated the chips were expiring February 18. I didn't receive the "bill" until March 5. They are obviously trying to make you panic into sending them money for something you have already paid for. They should be sued. read more

I got a cat from a rescue that came with the Home Again microchip. OK, I'll swap her over to my name so she will always be brought back to us. On the phone call, they asked if I wanted a cat tag. really pushed it after I said I didn't need one. But finally, I caved and spent the $15 for a tag for cat. Wasted money. It just got here and I am disappointed that is doesn't have my phone number on it, it has only their phone number on it. Why does it need their number on it? Because that's how they make money. I agree with all the 1-star reviews of this company on Yelp and other review sites - this is a horrible company and the fact that it's a subsidiary of Merck makes it even more pathetic. We have not actually had to use any of this company's "services", thankfully, but we do hear from them at least once a year to pay for an annual renewal OK, so we did back in July only to hear back from them in November asking us the renew the same microchip. We pointed out that we have confirmation of payment for the renewal but one of their reps denied this fact, even with proof. Hey, at least they got back to us, right? Potential Lawsuit. I recently paid the vet a visit and they were unable to detect my pets chip using 3 different scanners. I don't know where the chip came from but it was registered via home again. I verified she was currently enrolled on the website by trying to register again w/the chip id. I call customer service who just seem stumped and appalled throughout the call and lots of long awkward silence. I tell him the above and that I'm not sure what to do. They have me read the chip number, and he seems to be digesting the information, has me confirm the pet name and my information. He sounds a little shocked and confused, asks me to repeat the chip number again. It turns out the wrong cat and owner information registered. HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE!!! If I had lost my cat, even if the DANG chip worked, the wrong owner information would be LISTED. He transferred the info great but the chip still wasn't working since it failed 3 scanners! I called back, another woman had a solution: Just go to the vet get her microchipped again. She ends it at that which leaves me more confused because there is NO CLEAR process on this and she didn't even mention how on their FAQs they say they will replace the chip free of charge.(See screenshot) How does that place into this? I begin to ask questions since the process isn't clear and all my questions become the right answer which isn't reassuring. I asked how do I get the cat chipped? Answer go to the vet they can chip her and we can combine the information so both chips can work. Cool. How does this place into how Homeagain will replace it free of charge? Are microchips free what about my vet visit I will probably be charged for? I asked am I supposed to send receipts? She just says yes you can send receipts. WHERE!? No email exists on this website.
