The place is a boutique restaurant so not too much seating but there are tables outside if you don't mind fighting the birds. With one day left in our trip to Italy, I was missing American brunch and iced lattes. Judge me if you want. We wanted an easy brunch after an early morning in St. Peter's square, and this was exactly that. The owner is sooooo nice. Like. SO NICE. I got the avocado toast (sans bacon) and my husband got the American breakfast (with pumpkin pancakes). It was all delicious, fast, and lovely. They're totally okay with modifications if you so desire. The restaurant itself is really bright, cute, and welcoming. If you're feeling a little homesick, this is the place to be. I really don't see the hype. The breakfast is nothing like "real American breakfast". Tasted like they're trying to make something they don't know how to make. Everything just tasted really weird. The syrup tasted really weird like nothing I've tasted before. The bacon was okay. The eggs were very weirdly scrambled. And the pancakes were a cool chewy texture but after 3 bites you realize they're kind of weird and don't want them anymore. Just seems like they're trying but not really hitting the mark. We also ordered a bacon and cream cheese bagel but only received a cream cheese one. And the "breakfast wrap" was just an egg burrito with a spring of cheese and half a strip of bacon. I LOVEEEEEE Homebaked! The owner, and waitresses are super nice and the place is very cozy. Their food is awesome; my favorite is their Olga. Great place to get an American breakfast, and there are two locations so you can't go wrong. They have cute little boards that you can add sticky notes to and it just makes the experience so much more personal. They even have a banner of my school in the original store! My husband and I were at Salvator Mundi Hospital just up the street for a couple weeks after an accident while vacationing in Italy from California. Even though Rome is the place to be food-wise if you're stuck in a foreign country, sometimes you just want a taste of "home" when you're at your worst. Here enters Homebaked. We found Homebaked on Yelp and soon started sending our friends to pick up food for us every day for the small bit of comfort of American food. On our last day I was well enough to go there on my own. While there I met the owner (an American transplant from Buffalo, NY!) and shared our story about our accident and the impact his food had on us feeling a bit closer to home during such an isolating experience being hospitalized in a foreign country. He sent me off with some desserts for our hospital room and a "Homebaked: Grandma's Kitchen" mug, saying that he wanted me "to have a souvenir from Rome that wasn't an X-ray." Thank you, Jesse! I'm super torn about Homebaked. I'm not sure if I liked it or not which is why I'm giving it three stars. The idea and concept of Homebaked is pretty simple: Americans cooking American food because Americans miss home. I totally get and understand why a place like this exists. We saw Homebaked on Yelp and noticed we weren't too fair. Online their menu shows breakfast and lunch (sandwiches and wraps). When we arrived we were told it was only breakfast which was a downer because a grilled cheese is really what I wanted. The breakfast menu has pancakes, French toast, eggs, bagels, and bacon (some other minor items as well). I was honestly a little surprised to not see a breakfast sandwich. The best part of being in America is being about to take my breakfast to go and eat on the way aka a sandwich. I went with an American breakfast. It came with four pancakes, eggs and bacon. The pancakes were off and not as fluffy as a typical American pancake. I gave my bacon away but it was a good size portion, I could have actually used more eggs as that portion was small. I guess I didn't walk away feeling like I had an actual American breakfast. We sat outside and half way through our meal an employee (owner?) came out and started smoking right by us... definitely not some thing that would happen in America. Don't get me wrong we are straight up in Italy, I just didn't feel the entire concept throughout our meal. read more

TLDR: don't bother to come if you are actually an American - give up on getting your coffee and toast and just have a cornetto and espresso. I can see this being popular w/ European students and tourists who've seen pancakes and American bacon on TV and want to try the "exotic" American breakfast. Americans are advised in the strongest sense to STAY AWAY. NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. I've just spent 3 weeks in Italy (Milan, Lakes, Florence, Tuscanny, Amalfi, and Rome) and this is the only review I feel compelled to write from how bad it is. Location - TERRIBLE. They have 3 or 4 small tiny tables on the sidewalk which are immediately taken by groups of two or more. Inside there are two additional small tables in the mid level landing area, each w/ 2 seats. You must go down a level to the tiny counter to order. The location has an air conditioner but they don't use it. They just have the one door open at the top of the steps and there are no windows since part of it is under street level. As a result it's easily 90F inside and no one working there seems to care. Service - not really existent. I saw 3 or 4 employees behind the counter in the tiny corner and their jobs consisted of taking orders and making drinks. When your food is ready they yell your name and you go and get your food. I ordered two breakfasts and was handed 1 set of silver ware ... I asked for a second set and the lady seemed annoyed. Food - I would liken it to the same quality of food you would see at a buffet on a cruise ship or a Caribbean all inclusive resort. They have all the staples but they didn't grow up eating it and definitely don't taste or eat the food so everything is just "off" and very disappointing. I had the American Breakfast which was scrambled eggs, silver dollar pancakes and bacon. The eggs were way too over done (complete opposite of runny eggs you see in Italy) and the pancakes tasted like day old McDonald's pancakes... with less flavor. The bacon was surprisingly good. Coffee was decent too. After this long rant of a review it's up to you but I would say the terrible location, crappy service, and bland food is not worth wasting your euro or limited time in Italy. Go get some McDonalds breakfast and save 60% of the price if you're really homesick. read more
