The kind of place you don't discover from a giant sign or a tourist brochure. The kind of place you find by wandering, exploring, and getting a little curious. Before dinner even started, they surprised us with a complimentary bowl of their seasonal Gabacho soup. Light, refreshing, and bursting with fresh flavor, it was such a thoughtful touch and the perfect way to begin the evening. Then came the seafood soup. I was torn between several options, and I am so glad I followed my instincts. It was one of the top 3 soups I've ever had in my life. Tender shrimp, succulent fish, sweet shellfish, and a silky coconut broth that somehow felt both comforting and elegant at the same time. Every spoonful made me slow down and savor the moment. For our mains, I ordered the Duck and Annabelle chose the Sirloin. Both were beautifully prepared, perfectly seasoned, and paired with potatoes that were cooked exactly the way potatoes should be. Crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. I also ordered a side of potato leek gratin that absolutely stole the show. My daughter's steak arrived a little more rare than she prefers, and the staff graciously took it back and brought it out again cooked perfectly. Service like that says a lot about a restaurant. The setting felt magical. Located just steps from the Pantheon in Piazza della Rotonda, this historic coffee bar has been a Roman institution since 1946 and is especially known for its coffee, which has helped make it one of the city's most famous cafés. The line was pretty long when we arrived, but it moved surprisingly quickly. You can enjoy your coffee and pastries inside while standing at the counter, or, if you're lucky, grab one of the few seats available inside. There's also outdoor seating, but keep in mind that sitting outside comes with a separate--and if I remember correctly, significantly higher--service charge. I'll be honest--I'm pretty sure I ordered the wrong thing. I ended up with what was essentially a frosty coffee ice cream, which is not what I was going for, lol. I was supposed to order the Granita di caffè con panna, which is their signature. It's a coffee granita--essentially finely shaved/frozen coffee--topped with whipped cream. Instead of whipped cream, I accidentally told my Italian nephew I wanted the coffee with ice cream, whoops. I also ordered a maritozzo, which I was absolutely on a mission to try while in Rome. The maritozzo is a traditional Roman sweet bun filled generously with whipped cream, and it did not disappoint. I was in a bit of a rush, so I didn't have time to enjoy my maritozzo there. I packed it up and ate it later that evening, and it was still delicious. I've also essentially given up coffee completely, so I only had a few bites and sips of my coffee ice cream, but what I tried was really good. The menu is fairly large and varied, and it can feel a little overwhelming when you're standing at the counter with a line behind you. I'd recommend taking a look at the menu ahead of time if you can so you have an idea of what you want before you get up to order. Overall, I'd definitely recommend stopping by. Tazza d'Oro is an institution, the location is hard to beat, and there's something fun about experiencing one of Rome's longtime coffee traditions--even if you accidentally order the wrong thing like I did!

Homebaked to us is more than just a breakfast place but it was our home away from home while abroad. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like family. The owners and staff knew everyone by name, including us after just a few visits. Walking into Homebake felt like a warm hug, always friendly, familiar and filled with love. What truly blew us away was how they went above and beyond when we needed anything at all. During our time abroad we had a dental emergency and the owners helped find us a dentist! Not only did they take the time to assist us, they made sure we were okay every time we came back in. That kind of care is rare and speaks volumes about the heart behind this place. And the food? Absolutely incredible. Best pancakes and iced lattes in Rome. The quality and flavor were unmatched. And we found ourselves going back again and again. If you're in Rome and looking for more than just a bite to eat, a place that truly cares about its community, Homebaked is it. I loved eating at Homebaked so much I went there twice! The atmosphere is very nice, and the food is wonderful :-) Tip: When you've been traveling away from home for any length of time, it can be awfully nice to eat someplace like this, that reminds you of being back home :-) I was craving eggs for breakfast, and they do them fabulously here; even if you're not from the US, you'll enjoy this place, but if you're a homesick American, it can't miss!! read more
