I read it's good to go with an inspector that is affiliated with a professional organization, and I found Jerry through the American Society of Home Inspector's website. He is accredited through ASHI and attends regular seminars and sessions to keep up with his education, which impressed me. To do my due diligence, I searched Jerry and he had positive reviews on Redfin. We decided to go with his services, and were not disappointed. He cost $375 (our realtor told us to be prepared to pay $650+) and he did a very thorough inspection. What I appreciated most about Jerry is he gave everything context. It is scary have someone look at a home you love and it's easy to not understand inspector lingo and think a minor issue is a major issue. Jerry was very clear on what we should have fixed, what may need to get fixed but is not an urgent issue and what was good about the house. Before he finished (he spent at least 3.5-4 hours with us), he reviewed everything with us one last time, saying "These are the big items that cost homeowners the most to fix: roof, etc" and told us how our house fared in these areas. He also told us next steps, which was very helpful, and recommended writing a list 1-5, with the biggest fix we wanted as 1, when we sent it to our lawyer during the Attorney Review Period. Not only was Jerry an expert in understanding a house and its systems, he also understood the whole process and helped us to understand it, too. We went into the Attorney Review Period feeling confident about the house we're buying and the issues we asked them to fix. The repairman that I initially spoke with over the phone was super responsive and very polite. I was so impressed by the Yelp reviews and by the phone call that I immediately scheduled an appointment with him. After I finished setting up the service appointment we discussed the time, location, and other details. I immediately placed an order from my local hardware store and to have all the items (appliances) shipped to my home. The day before the scheduled appointment the repairman messaged me that he made a mistake and that he was supposed to schedule my appointment for the following day. He also mentioned that I did not send him a deposit to lock in my appointment as if I lost the appointment due to not paying him a deposit. I was confused! We never discussed a deposit or a deposit amount when I spoke with the handyman over the phone. I did not see the other Yelpers reference in their post anything about Zelle quick paying their repairman for a deposit. I thought something was odd I immediately thanked him for his time and told him I would not need his company to complete the repairs!

Marian is super friendly and was very accommodating to my schedule especially given the delays with Covid. When it came to installing hardwood in the bedrooms and sanding and staining the floors, I'm really pleased with how they turned out. Marian provided two basic stain samples, but if you wanted something different expect to go and do the mixing yourself and tell him exactly what you want. However, part of my job also included replacing my baseboards which did not turn out quite as great. I think there might have been confusion in my expectations and my walls aren't completely straight, but I wasn't prepared for the number of imperfections. However, know that if you get your baseboards done ask questions and expect there to be extra work after installation. Overall, I would recommend if you are just doing flooring and Marian is super easy to work with and cares about your satisfaction. He made it right when I expressed frustrations. Just be sure to ask a lot of questions if you are a novice at getting your floors done.
