Progressive reviewed my auto insurance when I moved to another state. They suggested I speak with Homesite afterward to discuss homeowners' insurance. Homesite reviewed my information and offered an attractive policy. A month later they sent an inspector who stated my roof needed to be replaced although it had recently been given a tune-up and treatment by Roof Maxx. I was given thirty days to replace the roof, which I was unable to do, and the policy was cancelled. To add insult to injury, I have to pay more for less coverage now with my previous insurer. read more

I chose homesite insurance because I have GEICO car insurance for many many years, Top rated company never had any issues until I bought homesite insurance through GEICO, who farmed it out to homesite, they are the worst company, we are now 4 years into a claim that they refuse to adequately address and I am looking for forward to the day we go to court to settle this matter. Do not even consider this company for any insurance. RUN THE OTHER WAY! If I could give zero stars I would. We recently had a boiler puffback at our house covering everything inside in black soot to the point you could swipe a finger and draw things and the spot got into closed cabinets, drawers, closets you name it. We have a toddler who is breastfed and potty training, and we have a Sphynx cat-- myself and my husband. We had to evacuate abruptly when this happened because of carbon monoxide as well as us also getting covered in soot and starting to cough so we took virtually nothing with us. We filed the claim and got out up in a hotel thru ALE. We received NO advance whatsoever from homesite. I just submitted our first receipts for reimbursement we got less than 10% of what was spent. Please explain to me the point of homeowners insurance when we are displaced and in virus and I have to max out my credit cards just to put food, diapers, and other toddler and cat supplies on our table. Do they expect my cat to shit on the hotel floor? I am not understand what they cover. I bought nothing extraneous or superfluous whatsoever and we are just truly getting out thru the wringer here. The hotel isn't even child safe no bars on the windows and I'm constantly having them remove furniture so she doesn't get hurt in here. I'm truly appalled by how homesite has been handling this claim so far and I'm terrified for how it will do the to go. I filed a 5000.00 claim and I recieved near what I asked for. I didn't have any receits and basicly just asked yo provide proof of ownersh ip. Which apparently I did. I switched to Progressive/Homesite after 10+ years of claim-free coverage. After a home inspection they threatened cancellation claiming "no water source" and "no fire department," which is false. My home has a working private well and is 2 miles from the fire department. Homesite also incorrectly said I have city water. They denied my policy because of a volunteer fire department--this is illegal under NY law. I provided proof and they never followed up. Forced to cancel to avoid a lapse. The worst insurance company I've ever dealt with. Got them for home policy through Costco's Connect. Had roof hail damage verified by two reputable roofers. Homesite sent an inspector and he reported "no hail damage" to their adjuster. After a couple of weeks they denied my claim, increased my premium by over $1K, reduced coverage, and increased deductible. After I requested another inspector and adjuster which is my right by law, they took their sweet time and another inspecter showed up. Luckily the 2nd inspecter found serious hail damage. This has been going on for over a month and I still have not heard anything since the 2nd inspector looked at my roof. read more

They threaten canceled my home insurance because my Oregon hose has a little moss on it; which houses in Oregon doesn't have moss? I always have someone spray moss killer after May when rain stop. They said I need to replace my 12 year old roof(most roofs life span are 30~40 years) in order to continue my insurance. Got my homesite home owners insurance thru Geico and everything works until it was only about paying premiums. Submitted my first claim in Jul 2025 and after 2 months there hasn't been a single occassion where they reached out to give an update, claim shows closed but they say we are working behind the scenes and it is common to close claims prematurely, haven't been sucessfuly reaching out to the adjustor or their manager as they have always left for the day or on another call, voicemail are a waste of time as they go unanswered. read more

I bundled home and auto with Progressive and did not know that Homesite by Progressive was actually American Family Insurance. Our home was damaged by a tornado and I filed a claim with homesite. From my very first contact it was a nightmare. They constantly tried to lowball everything. I pushed back on them continuously and ended up with 8 final offer. They started with an offer of $19K and by the time the 8th offer came it was $98K and they still have not indemnified us to the full extent of our policy. It makes me sick to my stomach to watch Progressive commercials that promote people to bundle and save when in reality Progressive does not stand behind the homeowners policies it sells. STORM hit Houston, TX on May 16th. Had sewage backup damage. Progressive told me to file claim with HomeSite. Home site said they would pay. then they called back and said that would not pay...because a year ago i removed sewage coverage. LIES!!! I would not recommend Homesite. I changed to Homesite an about five months ago. They requested I canceled my previous home insurance before conducting the on site inspection. After the inspection they said I need a roof replacement within 2 months. I also never received official documentation of the cancelation, just a phone call from a representative. This may seem like adequate time however, I live in a rainy state and this was mid winter. I finally was able to get my roof replaced with the couple of nice days we had those two months. I supplied all of the required documentation within the time frame needed, and never heard back from them after numerous calls, and emails for an update request. After 25 years with the same insurance company, we decided to shop around because our rates were going through the roof. We ultimately decided to go with Progressive and fell for their "bundle your home and auto coverage" sales pitch because the rates were considerably better. Little did we know Progressive farms out their Homeowner coverage to some East Coast company called Homesite, and a couple of months after buying the coverage, we were told they needed to complete a home inspection to continue our coverage. A couple of weeks later, an older man appeared to tell us he needed to do the inspection. He walked around our house with a camera and was gone within 5 minutes. We later received a letter on Progressive letterhead with Homesite listed as the carrier, saying to continue our homeowner coverage a long list of repairs needed to be done, including roof replacement due to moss and some other sketchy recommendations. We're the first to admit there are things that need to be done but roof replacement isn't one of them. In fact, we had a full replacement done 15 years ago, and being a retired claims adjuster, I know when a roof needs replacement, and ours doesn't. Anyway, there is no way this guy spent enough time "inspecting" to determine and recommend such an expensive "solution," and I firmly believe Homesite is a scam. Shame on Progressive for collaborating with these dirtbags and ripping off customers. Had water flooding in my apt and they initially kept promising me to cover everything under my liability claim as it was the damage in apartment below. All of sudden, they closed the case saying that they can not pay because I voluntarily paid to apartment authority. Unfortunately, I have no arguments for this mistake that I did for sending whole payment from my account as a whole balance payment option. I told them few times and they are not listening. If I could give it 0 stars, I would! Recently, I did a claim, and the desk adjuster had horrible communication with us. She never called us except for the 1st time to introduce herself. I always had to call, and even then, she never picked up. I would leave voicemail and hope she would call back, and she didn't. One time, I called her 4 times back to back, left her a voicemail, and she finally called back. I stated "hi did you hear my voicemail?" She said no, I'm just calling this number back because I saw 4 missed calls. That goes to tell me she NEVER heard my voicemail I left. It seemed like an inconvenience for her to answer the phone. Honestly, it was the most horrible 2.5 months trying to get our claim when there was clearly damage. Even when it finally got approved, they made sure to agree to give us an amount right below our deductible so they could say oh yea we agree to the claim but it's below your deductible soooo we owe nothing. I've never heard of anyone depreciating a roof $11k! Overall, it's been a horrible experience, and I would NOT recommend them! They not only suck at customer service, they are also so expensive! Run as fast as you can away from Homesite. I purchased home insurance in August. A month later I received a letter stating they were cancelling my insurance in 30 days if I didn't replace my roof and put a handrail on my exterior basement steps. I didn't balk on the roof; it was almost 30 years old so their concern was legitimate. However, Helene had just torn through my area so roofers were far and few between so I asked for an extension. Denied. Fine. I was able to get a new roof and handrail installed. Sent in all the required documentation and photos a week before the cancellation date. Two days after sending in documentation I received a refund of my premium. So, a refund was processed and mailed at least a week before the policy was actually cancelled. I called every day and was told it's still under review, the underwriters are backed up. Cancellation date came and went so I had no insurance. Called every day and kept being told my review would be escalated. 10 days after my policy was cancelled, I received a voicemail that the roof was accepted but balusters were required under the handrail - the handrail that was attached to an exterior, solid, concrete wall. I called and asked for clarification because that's just beyond absurd. Told it would be another 3-5 days to review. Called 5 days later and am told the underwriters came back and said balusters were not required so handrail is accepted. Ok so policy is reinstated, correct? NO! Why? No clue. But they are going to ask the underwriters and I should hear back in 3-5 days. Any underwriter that says balusters are required under an exterior handrail attached to a solid wall doesn't have any business being an underwriter. This company is a complete joke and waste of time. I already have insurance with someone else (less expensive with higher home value) while I wait on yet another review. My advice is don't even THINK about getting insurance with this fraud of a company. read more

SCAM!! Do not use this company. They are the home insurance portion for GEICO and Progressive insurance bundles, and should be avoided at all costs. They sent a contractor to perform mitigation on a water leak. The contractor found asbestos tile underneath our hardwood during mitigation and essentially stopped. SIX MONTHS before any further work was done. Meaning, Homesite left exposed asbestos in our house and did not offer any alternative housing. Giving some credit, they eventually did approve the work and put my family in an extended stay facility. However, they then ended the coverage of the extended stay before the work was complete and before furniture was moved in. The claims agent informed us the house is considered "livable" once the asbestos was removed. They were doing us a favor by even waiting until the new flooring was installed. When asked about the six months when they left the exposed asbestos, we were told that "if you felt unsafe, you should have moved out." And, don't even get me started on trying to get in touch with claims agents. Voicemails, emails, go unanswered for days and days. read more

We just hired a lawyer and plan to sue them and wonder if any of you have experience that is similar to ours: It has been 4 months since we issued claims on the water damage we had and we still did not get everything fixed. They have changed 4 adjusters for us and many of them are unresponsive. The worst part is that, the newest adjuster directly contradicts what the old adjuster says. The old adjuster said they have approved our claim to fix the whole floor and we put a deposit on the contractor. But the new adjuster we just got said they are only fixing the damaged area of the floor and we should just sand everything and it should be fine. But our contractor directly told us sanding everything is not going to look the same as before. So he said they are not paying it. He asked us to provide email evidence saying the previous adjuster has approved the floor project. But we only communicated by calls but calls are recorded on their side. I fortunately have not had any catstrophies, but I just interacted with their Customer Service and got the most efficient, wonderfully compassionate, upbeat individual named Michelle. I needed some documents to fund a loan and OMG, I had everything I needed in 15 minutes. Did't get caught in a loop with the robot answerer, such a blessing in these days, and I was blown away how efficient Michelle was, how quickly I got my information and also got some financial education. My home was broken into and when it came to the replacement and reimbursement of my items, Homesite only cover some of the items depending on the age of the item, photos of the item, and if it had been professionally appraised. Working with Homesite was like I was haggling in order to get my belonging replaced. And after all of that haggling Homesite only covered 57% of the items stolen. But to make matters worse, because of covid and the availability of these items and inflation, Homesite did not adjust the total amount of the item so I then had to pay the remaining amount out of pocket in order to replace the item. The whole point of having insurance is so that when something completely out of your control happens you have a way to replace or get back what is lost or damaged. Homesite made every part of this journey miserable. Do yourself a favor and find another insurance that will actually cover you instead of only making you half whole. read more

I started a claim in June. They paid out an amount they estimated to pay for repairs. It was not even close to what I had to pay contractors. I had a water loss last September. I have filed numerous complaints with the department of insurance. I still have not been reimbursed for the high water bill or alarm company service call because the water shorted out the panel. I have not received any payments on my damaged contents. I have not received reimbursements for the cost to move back into my home. They have still not provided me with a copy of my policy after numerous requests from me. I just received reimbursements a week ago for my last month and 10 days of temporary housing from January. I would not recommend Honesite to anyone. They refused me because I would not let them speak to my mother who lives 4 states away, and during that time she was grieving the lost of my brother who was shot 5 times, 2 in the head. She was fragile. I sent reciepts, a copy of the survelience and even allowed them to inverstigate me, and when the investigator came to my home, he saw that I have expeience things and RECIEPTS. About 3 months into the policy an "inspector" showed up at our house without announcing themselves and started taking photos of our property. Then we received a letter stating that we had to do a full roof replacement and have siding replaced or they would drop us. The roof is a slate roof, lifetime guarantee so there was no way I was going to replace it (it isn't leaking and is in tact). The siding needed some repair which we paid over $1000 to have done but they were not satisfied and sent us a letter stating that we were being dropped for "failure to comply"... Before purchasing my first home in October of 2023, I selected Progressive for homeowners insurance. I had used Progressive for auto insurance for many years, and they were fantastic. Setting up our policy was easy, and the agent we were working with explained everything....except one major piece, that our homeowners insurance was actually going to be handled by Homesite. Two weeks after purchasing our home, we received mail indicating our policy was being dropped due to our neighbor's tree. Homesite could not tell us which tree was the issue as there are many on our property. They would not provide photos, and provided inaccurate information about the side of the house it could have been on, and said we should take it down anyway because there are power lines cutting through the tree. Immediately we knew that information was wrong, but we proceeded to rectify. We immediately talked with our neighbor and got the tree taken down by a professional tree company. We submitted photos showing the tree was down, but then were told they could not process the proof of repair before our policy would be canceled. We immediately found a new insurance provided, and called both Progressive and Homesite to cancel our policies for home and auto. All in all, this process took us over 30 hours of being on the phone, because every time we called Homesite nobody could follow the track of our issue. It was infuriating. We eventually got the policy canceled, received paperwork stating we no longer had a policy, and received a refund. I then gained homeowners insurance through Farmers and called Homesite to double check, due to their past ineptitude, that our policy was in fact, canceled. The representative on the phone assured me repeatedly that our policy was canceled and would not be reinstated. Fast forward SIX months later, and we received notice they are taking us to debt collection for not paying on our policy. In Progressive's system, it showed our policy was canceled, but not with Homesite! They told us we are in collections and owe them for insurance we did not have, on a policy canceled on some of the company's records, but not all of them. This saga of incompetency with this company continues, and we are at wits end. read more

Okay... here's the process: After I've waited a half-hour on hold (after doing the same thing for 40 minutes the previous day, before giving up) -- inform me repeatedly on the customer "service" phone line that there must be something wrong on *my* end, because *you* can see *your* company's website just fine... and then continue to do so, every time I explain, patiently and for the fifth time, that your website is the *only* website not working for me -- on three different browsers, even after rebooting my computer. (And Safari and Chrome on my iPhone, too) Oh... then maybe tell me again, I'm probably typing things wrong into the wrong places in my iPhone's web browsers... because it works just fine on *your* iPhone. Then add bonus anger points, by repeatedly explaining to me that even though I have only ever received emails from Progressive Insurance, my actual agreement is with a company called Homesite -- a company from which I have received zero communication, either in mail or email, since the very day I signed up, three years before (all email updates come directly from Progressive Insurance and they all link to the Progressive website, not Homesite.) And then act shocked that I wasn't aware (or forgot in the intervening three years) a shell game was being played. Then refuse to escalate to an IT person -- or really anybody else. Also, don't even offer to email me the plan documents I'm trying to access. Then you'll see. And if your name happens to be "Amber," well then... definitely rethink your career choice. (Thankfully, I switched to State Farm today... and I can visit them locally. No need for endless hold music or "Amber's" casual disregard and blaming nature.
