Homestead Kitchen is one of the best bakeries in metro Detroit. I first tasted one of Homestead's creations at Yelp's Halloween party at Eloise Asylum last year and knew I wanted to visit this bakery for more. Then there was another Yelp opportunity at Homestead to try its different cake flavors. There is a cute room next to the bakery just for events like tea time. The buttercream at Homestead is some of the best I've ever had. It's light but still rich and buttery. I will order from here if I ever need a cake for a special event. Since those two Yelp events, I've been back to the bakery several times to try its cupcakes and savory items, like the dill soup, which is so delicious and comes with cornbread. I'd love to see more savory meals offered. One drawback is that Homestead has limited hours which is why I've only been back several times. Walk-in hours right now are Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 9am-3pm. The rest of the time it's open for special events and orders made in advance which you can do on its website. Also, you can only order one flavor of cupcake on the website, not a variety of flavors. It would be nice to see more flavors offered like the buttercream flavors I tried at the Yelp event as well as expanded hours for the bakery. read more

The owner is very nice. We use the Too Good To Go app and pickup a surprise bag of baked goods. They also could give you a coupon for an additional $10 of items, you get a free cinnamon roll. In the pictures it shows you what I got in the Too Good To Go surprise bag. Every bag is different. The boxes have what I purchased to get the free cinnamon roll. The cake and cookies, cannolis are very tasty. If you like Dill Pickle Soup, she makes a good one. Sometimes she has some for sale in the freezer. read more

I first heard about Homestead thru the Yelp Eloise Asylum event. I loved their little cakelets so much that I ordered for my own personal Halloween party. It was an easy process emailing the owner, Trina, and paying online. When I picked it up, they of course had SOO many goodies in their store front. I went for the pumpkin cheesecake cinnamon roll which was SO good. The frosting was their signature meringue buttercream so more light and airy than a cream cheese frosting. The cinnamon roll itself was wonderfully fluffy. They also had really cute cookies and an awesome bumpy brownie (like bumpy cake but make it a brownie!!) Too bad Westland is ~40-45 minutes from Ann Arbor, otherwise I'd be here all the time. But, I'll definitely keep Trina and Homestead in mind for more parties in the future!! read more

To most people this represents a simple cake with a birthday message. To me, it represents so much more than that. My wife had a taste for something hazelnut for her birthday. Yup, something hazelnut is all I had to work with and my brain went blank. My wife and daughter used this business for another function and I remembered the name and decided to reach out two days before my wife's birthday. Well, initially when I called I was told I was out of luck because they didn't have anything in a hazelnut flavor. I was a little bummed because I like making the ol lady happy. This is where the story gets good; at least to me. The owner got on the phone and essentially created the design based on me telling her I wanted something hazelnut. Remember, this is literally all I had to go on and that is all I had to give the owner. This 6" cake represents so much to me and I appreciate when customer service isn't an obstacle to impossible. I can't emphasize enough how much I pay attention to business owners taking that extra step not knowing they are creating a memory that will last a lifetime. I really appreciate this business taking care of me on short notice without a lot design help from me. It turned out wonderful and once I saw the Ferrero Rocher candy, my brain fart was cured. This place was super cute. It was cozy and nice. Seems like they have a major selection of many things. They have a variety of teas, cafe drinks and boba tea to choose from. The cakes and pastries are Dec as well. We got some sweet cream butter and it was so good. I was eating that by itself. They have keto friendly options as well which I think is major important for people these days. Their custom cakes look really nice and detailed. First-timer right here - unfortunately it seems like the cupcakes aren't all the same but i loved OREO BUMPY CUPCAKE but the strawberry seemed off which i think it was a little dry to me. (Icing isn't sweet like normal buttercream Let me tell you what they're on point about... THESE TACO COOKIE THINGYS!!! This is a hidden gem in Westland! If you are diabetic or keto this place is a MUST TRY! I have had anything I didn't absolutely love, and I've been keto for 4 years. The custom cake we ordered for my son's 5th birthday was everything I could have hoped for and so much more! My son requested a Ghostbusters cake "with Slimer" and both the attention detail and the amount creativity put into this cake blew my mind. My friends refer to me as the "Food Nazi" because I am very particular about about what I like. Recent experiences at other bakeries have not gone so well. I'm pleased to tell you, Homestead Kitchen is amazing! Literally tried one of every cupcake at the counter. Keto treats are hard to make and they were so deliciously mastered that they did not disappoint. Regular cupcakes with their silky meringue buttercream are absolutely to die for. I had one or two bites from everything to get an idea; however, I are the entire carrot cupcake. That's up there with some of the best I've ever had and I hope I can one day get it as a cake! The cookie taco...wow, just wow. Cookies are so good, soft and moist and the special filling and buttercream topper make these a very nice treat. We had a fantastic experience with Homestead Kitchen! I had asked for a custom cake for my wife's special birthday and provided some photos of an ethnic bun; the Longevity Peach! Trina and her staff were absolutely amazing and my sweetheart was blown away with the beauty and surprise of a Longevity Peach Bun shaped cake! We celebrated with a Zoom with family and friends. Homestead Kitchen is real find! I needed a cake in a real crunch. I remembered that I'd seen what appeared to be a small bakery tucked in the corner of a very small plaza in my neighborhood on Wayne Road,in Westland, MI. As a last ditch effort I decided to go there. Homestead Kitchen's Ellen, graciously sold me a cake and told me how to serve it, "It has been kept cold and it is made from scratch with real butter, allow it to sit out for a while..." As I looked around I no longer felt as if I was in my neighborhood. Homestead Kitchen reminds me of the quaint places that I have visited in Ann Arbor, downtown Detroit and New York! The place is bright, warm and neatly arranged. It's a fresh place to meet up with a friend for a chat and have coffee or tea or, a cup of chocolate and have a scrumptious baked good. Itis bright and beautifully decorated and the smells of the baked goods draws you further in. The Vanilla Chocolate cake was absolutely wonderful tasting! My guests ALL commented on how good it was.
