The frosting was soooo sweet and they must have used some type of glue to hold it together. The batter tasted like it was made out of cornmeal and it was very, very dry. I told my daughter she should have returned the cake and demanded a refund. My daughter picked up the cake on my daughter's birthday (09/14/25) and as of today (09/20/25 it's still sitting here on the kitchen table. My granddaughter was so heartbroken. I just told my daughter if you're not going to return that big mess throw it away.

I contacted Donika after the party and advised her of the issue and asking for some sort of rectification. I received no response. I contacted her again the next day and received no response. It is now two days later and I've received nothing. Because of this I am leaving only 3 stars. This saddens me as she was very responsive to my request for a cake on an urgent basis, her location is close to my house and the cake looked beautiful. Unfortunately, the frosting was horrible.

All the offerings are somewhat unique and well-crafted but the prices are on the high side. They do offer a day old pastry bag for $10 that has 3 items. Then there was another Yelp opportunity at Homestead to try its different cake flavors. There is a cute room next to the bakery just for events like tea time. The buttercream at Homestead is some of the best I've ever had. It's light but still rich and buttery. I will order from here if I ever need a cake for a special event. Since those two Yelp events, I've been back to the bakery several times to try its cupcakes and savory items, like the dill soup, which is so delicious and comes with cornbread. I'd love to see more savory meals offered. One drawback is that Homestead has limited hours which is why I've only been back several times. Walk-in hours right now are Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 9am-3pm. The rest of the time it's open for special events and orders made in advance which you can do on its website. Also, you can only order one flavor of cupcake on the website, not a variety of flavors. The folks here were very nice to us, probably tired from making all those subs. The prices seemed reasonable, but with baked goods its quality first. It certainly isn't worth standing in line around the building for an hour or more. Disappointing. Much easier to travel up the road, walk in/out and be on our way. While I knew a little about what I wanted (buttercream and vanilla cake) they asked about layers and colors and a range of things that made the perfect cake. And they assured me it would be ready on time for pickup and it was! Know that they need at least a couple of weeks as all of their cakes are customized so don't wander in the day of your event and expect to get a cake. And what was even more special was the look on my mom's face when she saw the cake and we all gathered around her to sing, "Happy Birthday". The moment was priceless.
