    Egg Sandwich
    Gerry P.

We found this place by chance, after a local health food store proprietor told us about it during an emergency "we need mozzarella" call. It's a classic Italian-style deli. After three visits in one short week, here are 9 things I think you should know about this cool little grocery store. 1. The sandwiches are yummy and fairly priced. 2. They offer three (3) mustard options, like civilized human beings. 3. They sell 200+ "specialty beers," many of them from microbreweries in the local upstate NY area, nationwide, and internationally. Seriously good selection to which the local Hannaford's supermarket (which is about a thousand times bigger) cannot hold a candle. 4. Corn muffins are good, taste- and texture-wise. 5. Service is friendly and prompt. 6. Generous store hours from 8-8 M-Sat, and 9-5 on Sunday. You certainly cannot say that about every small business in Oneonta. 7. They sell a fabulous "Steak Delmonico." Seriously, we bought two steaks and grilled them. They were by far the best steaks we've had in a long, long, long time. 8. Good breakfast sandwiches. Try the eggs on the seeded multigrain roll. 9. Remember that all truly good things, like this place, can be found by getting off the beaten path. Just a few blocks from Main Street, but worth the little amble.

    Literally thick rubbery chicken.

Not even worth rating but I had to in order to post this. Hometown Deli is completely disrespectful and do not care about they're customers. We bought 4 subs on 5/4/19. 3 of which were chicken cutlet. My wife, daughter and I all spit the first bites out, it was so rubbery and inedible. I called to ask for a refund and was totally treated like crap and told me he has never heard that so he doesn't care. I took photos for proof of purchase only because a picture will not show rubbery textures. And I was told "you can take photos all you want, I cooked it and it's fine." I said "so there is no resolution for this?" Don said "no that's never happened since I owned this place." It's just interesting. I strive to at least be nice to people and speak in an acceptable way. But there was no talking to him or him hearing me out. I even explained to him I'm not upset; I don't blame you, nor am I saying you are a bad cook. In fact, I've never had a bad experience there so it wouldn't be a problem. "I'm not saying you're lying, I'm just saying I don't believe you", "I don't know what you did to it, or how long it sat out, so I'm not accepting what you're saying" and more of him talking over me repeating no no. If your first response is to blame the customer, then you clearly do not know how to deal with customers or people in general smh. Such a weird situation considering how non-aggressive I was and always am. I will never go there again. Disgusting chicken along with disgusting behavior from the owner. Its just so disappointing.

The whole wheat ciabatta bread made there has the necessary chewy taste.

I especially want to give props to the two sisters that work in the deli section. They always greet me with a smile and are very gracious. I also like it when Peggy is back in the deli department as she is so helpful, and has turned me on to a couple of good items there. I never thought I'd be buying my cold cuts in Wal-Mart. But here I am every week. I would also like to give props to Jane the beautifully kind woman that works on the register. She's always very happy to see me. And last year when I had a couple of operations, she was always praying for me and checking on me whenever I came back afterwards. I love the prices and everything here. But it's the people that make you stand Head and shoulders above everybody else. I would be remiss if I didn't say thanks to one of your great workers named Ron. He always greets me with such a smile and says Hey Mike do you need anything special today. He looks like he wears many hats at this place. And he does every job well. Keep up the good work Oneonta Walmart.

It was a smallish bj's with less selection I felt but they still seemed to have all of the staples. This may be due to NY law but the beer / wine offerings were different from other bj's I've been in. There was a basic selection of beer and 4 or 5 varietals of very off brand wine, or maybe it was non alcohol wine, not sure. In any event, good spot to get your shopping done.

There is no fresh deli cold cut section nor are there vendors like there are in other locations (such as Pizza Hut or Dunkin Donuts). There is a Verizon booth though. A few years ago, I told the person who was working there that my phone charger wire stopped working and he replaced one for free which was really kind. I like that there is some diversity in products even compared to the BJs locations in the Queens/Long Island area. My experience here has been good 9/10 times. The only time it hasn't been good was when a store manager asked an associate to watch me check out. It was really uncomfortable and unnecessary since it wasn't to assist us or anything. Nobody else had to be watched like children. What a way to ruin people's day.
