I have a new experience with Howard Oven! I got another letter from the same attorney with threatening language asking me to contact him. He assured me in the letter that he really was an attorney. Do real attorneys have to do that? He also asked me to call him. Funny, last time I called his number, someone who sounded exactly like Howard Oven picked up. Sadly, I know Howard's voice very well because of all the harassing phone calls he made to me. If you read "not recommended" reviews here or on his "H.O. Services" profile, you will see that this is his normal m.o. What Howard does not seem to have grasped is that if you do not want bad reviews, you should not treat your customers badly. Used Homewiz for bathroom vent install. Honestly, I was not impressed by the quality of work. Left a mess in my attic and basement. Seems like a hit or miss with this company (see photos for details). If you are skeptical Google H.O. Services in Belmont. This company looks like the same owner and similar business practices just rebranded. Again maybe you get lucky, but ask yourself if it's worth the chance... This is a cut and paste of a googl review on Home Wiz out of Wells Maine. I understand they are the same company and I decided to post here as well. Updated 4/12/2025 - This is my personal opinion of HomeWiz... This is an update of a review I posted more than 1 year ago - Initial review stated : Today, while this company was performing service for a condo owner in our complex, we witnessed the two gentlemen working on an owners condo take their vehicle, back it up to our dumpster and unload a massive commercial air-conditioner into our dumpster. When I asked them if they threw an appliance in our dumpster they stated it was a dishwasher from the condo they were working on. When I confronted (who I believe to be) the owner, and suggested that what they did "wasn't cool" and it was "abuse" they stated that they didn't see it as abuse. A HomeWiz employee (and possibly the owner) were caught red handed illegally dumping a large (commercial?) air-conditioner in our condo complex's dumpster. Home Wiz is not a company I would recommend for any service. In my opinion a company that operates this way shouldn't be trusted to work on anyone's property. (It was only after being confronted and told to remove the AC, did they remove it) Please consider the above before you hire this company. Update 4/12/25 - Yesterday I received a call from someone who represented himself as an owner of Home Wiz. The call originated from 617-592-4400. The person said his name was either Dan or Don. He told me if I didn't remove my review that was negatively impacting his business, that he would "ruin me", my businesses, and come after my wife with bad reviews of her as a teacher. He also said that he would "get back at me in a way like I've never experienced." - He also stated that he knew where I lived. The number that I received the call from 6l759244OO was cross referenced to Home Wiz in Belmont MA, and, after reviewing yelp reviews on Home Wiz and HO services, it looks like this type of behavior may be a standard operating practice for this company. I called Homewiz to fix 4 outlets in a room where they had stopped working. I was charged $462 before they even showed up to do the work (Red flag #1). One additional outlet was faulty that I asked Howard to look at. He said it would cost another $462. For ONE singular outlet. When I said I had to talk to my husband who wasn't home at the time, he suggested I call now since they're so busy. I called, he didn't pick up, so I made the decision to pay since I figured it would be a big job given the price. It was done in under 20 minutes, and he wouldn't do the work without charging me first. Ultimately, I felt pressured into it. I paid $924 for less than an hours worth of work. This was honestly the worst customer experience I've had in over a decade. I called Homewiz because I had a dishwasher that would not power on. If you still decide to contact them, do NOT pay these people up front. I foolishly paid $462 for a diagnostic and after less than 12 minutes, Howard concluded I had been hit by a power surge and my dishwasher needed to be replaced. He said it was either lightning or a solar surge and all the computer chips were fried. He then began looking up dishwashers on his phone to order. No details were provided on what drove him to this conclusion or what tests he ran. I'm suspecting he just saw an older dishwasher and assumed it needed replacing without actually figuring out the problem. At that point I asked him to leave and called the main Homewiz line to complain. I spoke with a person Dan who was extremely rude and belligerent. Even though my older Maytag dishwasher doesn't even have computer chips, he still tried to justify the diagnosis because power surges are a common thing. Fast forward a few weeks, I had to call an electrician again because after replacing the dishwasher it would not power on. I hired another team and they were quickly able to find and fix an issue with the outlet connecting the dishwasher. They also fixed my attic lights, a broken outdoor sensor and installed a garbage disposal switch. All of the this for a reasonable price of $527. This included parts and labor and I was only made to pay AFTER the quality job was done. Please be aware Homewiz is just a rebrand of H.O. Services. If I had known about all the horrible reviews I never would have called. Don't make the same mistake. read more

They asked you pay upfront with a check, then NEVER finished work on time and it's very difficult to get them finish the work once you paid in full upfront while they are fishing for other projects. Worse experience ever. The 2 guys running this company are just after your money. Do not take their annual service, they barely touch your a/c. Basically you are paying for them to change the filter. My lights were out in the kitchen. They charged me 880 dollars for under an hour of work. They told me that the problem was that the person I had hired was not a licensed electrician. BTW, I checked, there was no unlicensed work, it was all licensed. Anyway, they tripped the circuit, which got the lights back on, but they did not replace the lamp or give me an estimate for doing so. They told me that they could install extra lights in my kitchen for "only" 3600 dollars and they could do it "right away". I told them I needed to think about it. Less than a week later, the same problem arises. I look at the lamp - it is clear that there is a problem with the lamp, and that must be the short that it causing the problem. I call and they tell me that the charge was for a diagnostic only. After some back and forth on the phone, the technician contacts me back and tell me that I misunderstood him. He says that he will replace the lamp if get a new lamp. I tell him that is fair, I ask to repeat to confirm as the connection is poor. He then says that he does not want to do it, because I am mean. Then he says again that he will do the job. Then he says he will not do it because we do not get along. The man on the phone was staggeringly rude. Unbelievably so. Really trying to intimidate me. I wish I had looked at Yelp and seen all the one stars. Truly disastrous. Stay away. This is highway robbery. read more

We needed work done and were having trouble getting anyone to show up. Dan and Howard were the only electricians who actually came to quote the job and had availability nearly immediately. They're genuinely decent guys and like what they do. They may not be for everyone but that's fine. They're really not the cheapest option but they did the work in a time frame that made sense for me. I can never get electricians to follow through on their quotes so this was huge to me. We didn't want to spend weeks coordinating and appreciated they could fit our job in in under 2 weeks. My only complaint is that they put Home Whiz stickers everywhere they went... on my electrical box and heating system. During the recent (dangerously) cold spell, my heat went out. It could've been a disaster, but I called up HomeWiz and they came out to my home the same day. Scheduling was easy and the two hour windows they provided were more convenient than most handymen I've dealt with. I'm not a handy person by any means, so Howard and Dan were kind enough to explain what went wrong and what my options were. I appreciated them taking the time to walk me through it -- it's something that you don't usually expect from HVAC technicians. They were patient and reasonable throughout the process. Thanks to them, my heat was restored as quickly as it could've been. Let's start with some objective truths. HVAC units are complicated and each one is unique. Not having air conditioning makes everyone grumpy in the midst of summer. So although the overall experience has been a little frustrating, I believe these guys know what they are doing and they are dedicated to their customer service. My AC stopped working. The air coming out was no longer cool. They came on-site and were here for a couple hours. After multiple discussions, I ended up deciding on the more expensive, long term solution, spending over $1,600 to get it fixed. Unfortunately, it didn't last very long and a week or 2 later warm air came out again. I'm not HVAC expert, so I can't say for sure if they didn't do the best work or if there are simply variables outside of their control. Whenever someone is fixing an HVAC unit that they did not build out, there are going to be challenges. Naturally, I call them up and explain. They were quite kind and considerate, agreeing to send someone out next available time to check it out again. One of the technicians was the same guy as a few weeks ago (I'm working to find his name) and I said hello. Oddly, he had zero recollection of me or the issue, but it wasn't a big issue. I do regret not taking notes, because I wasn't able to articulate the ins and outs of what we did last time. Maybe he just has some memory issues, but it did feel like they should have notes on properties where the customer spends a big chunk of change. Long story short... they have very good customer service in a difficult industry. Locally owned business, which are always best to support vs some large enterprise. They hire very solid technicians with pretty good people/service skills. I think they went above and beyond to service me the 2nd time, because they had to get a couple new parts and it took them a couple hours but they didn't charge me a single extra dollar. I'm an objective reviewer of businesses and would recommend HomeWiz to others. I'd encourage you to take notes, do your research, and be prepared for the possibility of everything not going perfectly. Their management called me directly to communicate the situation and I feel they are doing as good a job as possible to do, without completely ripping out the system and installing a new one. read more

I called HomeWiz a few days ago because something was going on with my heater. I had another AC company come out the day before and they supposedly found 3 different problems. I didn't feel right about the quote so I decided to have these guys come out for a second option. Turns out the thermostat was loose on te wall and the contacts in the back were intermittent so sometimes it worked when I changed the temp and other times it didn't. Simple fix! I'm apparently in the wrong profession! For those of you considering college, stop. Become an electrician or plumber because in and around Belmont, you can charge the rates of top Boston lawyers as an electrician! I never write negative reviews because I know how hard it can be to run a small business, but this is just too much. I installed a Nest thermostat myself and for some reason, it was cycling the heater on and off frequently. After doing diagnosis with Nest Suport, they concluded that it was because I didn't have a common wire. They recommended a local electrician - HO Electric (Homewiz). I thought these were the local partners of Nest so I called and they came by (turns out, they aren't a Nest partner). They charge a $50 dispatch fee and $462 Level 2 diagnostic fee (dispatch fee waived if you do that diagnostic). Based on the diagnosis, I decided to go with a common wire replacement. Material cost probably $5 for the line. Service charge: a whopping $420! So, nearly $900 for about an hour of work with negligible material cost. That's literally what top-tier Boston lawyers charge. A few weeks later, I noticed the cycling of the heater again. I called Homewiz. The person I spoke with asked me who did the original install of the Nest. I said I did. He quickly concluded that I probably broke the backplate during the install. Nice of him to jump to such a conclusion! In the end, he agreed to send someone out again. The technician came by and we spent most of the time arguing over whether I had power to the thermostat when he had come out the first time! The other negative reviews are correct. I will NEVER recommend HomeWiz to anyone. Note that the top ranked 5-star review was written by someone in Washington State! We're in Massachusetts. read more

These guys came in and did some work for our neighbors in the same building, and they identified a "problem" with our neighbor's system and corrected it. In the process, they shut off a switch that turned off our heat. When my heat didn't come on, I called to see if they had done anything that would cause that to happen. It takes a lot of haranguing to get them to send someone without promising to pay some kind of money up front, but we live around the corner, so they sent someone over-actually several guys came by. They fixed the switch problem and I discussed having them possibly do some maintenance work for us, but there was something about these guys that just felt a little creepy to me, so I ended up sticking with who we usually use. Fast forward a few weeks, and my neighbor had a dispute with them. Believe me, you do not want to get into a dispute with these guys. Their way of operating seems to be to blow up on you and threaten to sue. Since we've started talking with other people in town we've found SEVERAL other customers who have had similar experiences. I'm glad that we decided not to hire them. Read reviews for H.O. Electric as well, because they rebranded last year (probably to escape their bad reviews online). Update on June 15th: So this review has been up a few days and I am now getting threatening calls from the owner calling what I've said "slander" and intimating that he's going to sue me if I don't take down this review. This is exactly how they interact with people, and I'm only surprised that it took him so many days to do it. I'd like to thank Mr. Oven for clarifying why they had come to see us in his hostile phone call--I thought that I had them out specifically to do a quote, but now remember that they came to the house for me because their team had shut off my heat. I have changed my review to reflect that. But I'd like to remind Mr. Oven that there are ways to challenge online reviews that don't involve calling people and threatening them. Old spaghetti wires and multiple still connected comcast boxes threatened to take us and the whole neighborhood offline during the pandemic (and a snow storm!). Comcast told us we had to rewire our antique house which would have cost a fortune. Master Electrician Howard came and removed the complex scrambled wires, reconnected the system, and got us running. Dan suggested multiple ways to save money on the system which we will pursue. We were saved a complex and costly rewiring job. Not the least expensive outfit but paying for Master Electricians is often the way to go. read more

Howard and Dan came to my home the same day that I called and fixed the problem and explained the process so I could understand what was actually wrong with the boiler. I had the pleasure of working with Dan and Howie. I originally called for a new doorbell and the service and appointment were easy to schedule. They gave me a clear understanding of my doorbell options and replaced it very efficiently. While replacing they noticed how my dryer had been vented. They were very cautious about pointing it out, clearly not wanting to "upsell" me but showed me the danger of how it was not vented to code. When they opened it up it was stuffed with lint--our electric bill was high, our clothes took forever to dry but when I saw the vent, I knew a fire could have started anytime. Honestly, their awareness may have saved lives. They revented the dryer that day to my huge relief and the job was superb. I know I will use them for all electrical/ HVAC needs moving forward. Homewiz!! More like Home Whiz off after giving me a ridiculous over inflated quote and damaging my property!!!. They came to my house to remove my old wall oven and then install my new wall oven. Before even giving me a real quote and me agreeing to anything they had already ripped my existing oven door off ( well partially off). And then quoted me a minimum of $675 for the job. So I refused their service and paid them the $59 call out fee, even though they damaged my old oven so I can't use it. So I contacted then via email asking what they intend to do about my oven door. Reply same day "we are looking into it". Two days pass no response, so I email them back, requesting action with- in 24 hours or I will take it further. Again same day I get a reply. Now this is where it's gets really interesting. What I failed to mention is this new oven I have is from my warranty company ( double wall oven/microwave combo). The microwave had broken on my old unit but the oven worked fine, so once it was out I was going to get it repaired out of my own pocket, and install it in my tenants Apt. So Homewiz know who my warranty company are, because I asked them if they accepted third party payment. ( they don't) but my warranty company do not know them, as I never got around to getting authorization from for Homewiz to do the work. So this second email I receive is nothing but a load of c**p. They said that they have reached out to my warranty company and they told them the oven is broke. They also stated that they have to pull a permit for the installation etc, The email goes on a bit with more BLAH BLAH BLAH. At the end they basically state, and I quote " we take threats very seriously and will be following up with my warranty company and the city of Boston if need be". Well here's the thing, they think that I'm trying to scam the warranty company, They don't seem to get the point, I own the oven not the warranty company, they simply decided to replace rather than repair. And I'm not really sure what the city of Boston has to do with it?? So I called my warranty company for them to explain themselves giving out my information to a company they do not even deal with. Guess what! (which I already had) they know nothing of it, and I believe that they are going to be chasing Homewiz about this false allegation. I also called the City to find out if I need a permit for this work? Once again I do not, and they have never pulled a permit for my address. Basically they are trying to scare me off. Well it won't work!! I'm going to take this all the way now, simply because they could not be responsible and try and work with me on the matter. Background- HVAC system and thermostat (~4-yr old) working great. Trying to install Nest thermostat. Based on Nest customer service, was advised to reach out to qualified technician to enable a "c-wire" (aka common wire) grounding (c-wire was there, just need grounding) to enable Nest thermostat to work my particular zone control unit . Day of reckoning- 2 Technician showed up, I explained what I wanted- Nest not functioning properly (wire swap done, heat functioning, unplugged c-wire, restored wires to original configs- nest functioning but not turning off), needed specifically a c-wire grounding. Have my battery operated previous thermostat in there right now and HVAC and thermostat are working fine. Diagnosis, solution and wow- I was told right away (without looking or diagnosing anything unless they did it based on my explanation)-I messed up the entire HVAC system in the process of swapping wires. I explained that the HVAC system is working fine after I reinstalled my previous thermostat! How can I "blow" the system. Was told..well, you might have damaged the Nest base plate then. We then went to the basement... was asked- did you touch the zone controller at all, to which I replied "no". I was then told, it will cost ~$460 to "repair and rewire" the system. To which I asked..."the system is working, so what is the diagnosis..is the system (zone controller) broken". I was told...every system is unique and they can't say if its broken (although I paid them $59 for diagnosis) until they work and redo and install "correctly" my nest TSTAT. I replied that was a steep price, one of the technicians checked with their office and instantly said they could instead do the C-wire grounding only for under $300! At that point, I realized I'm not happy with my experience and the justification being provided (disclaimer-I'm not an electrician, so might be wrong). However, I showed them a quote from another provided to do the job (c-wire ground), for ~$150. At that point, I was reminded "what do you expect an electrician with a truck will do anything for less than a couple of hundred bucks, we don't care, we have 8-more jobs to do, just pay us the diagnosis fee and we will leave", which I did. All this took under 15-minutes! Wow..what a way to start my day. I guess..lesson learnt, don't question "the experts" and pay up "what is demanded". Ohhh boy did these guys go above and beyond. At about 4:59 PM, after 36 hours of escalating concerns about our electrical system, the whole house lost power and we couldn't get it going again. I did my best panicking and called a few after hours electricians to ask if a house fire was imminent. Most were...not helpful. "We can come tomorrow! It'll be $250! Just to show up!" "Maybe it's dangerous? We can come next week!" We'll, after the kind lady at HomeWiz talked through our situation for like 15 minutes, she said, "a technician is going to call you. And he'll call you soon." Dear reader, Dan did indeed call us soon. Dan listened to everything that had been going on and he told us exactly what to do - which included starting with Eversource to see if they were the cause. They were, indeed, the cause, and after about 2 hours, an Eversource truck came and fixed the corroded exterior connection to our house and viola! The power came back on. So basically, these guys saved us a ton of money, were so kind, and will be getting all our business in the future. Thank you Dan!!!!! read more
