Our steam boiler was dying, and it needed to be replaced. I called a handful of plumbers who supposedly specialized in steam. Half never got back to me, the others gave me prices all over the map. I chose Chilli Willie for a handful of reasons: 1. They got back to me immediately, made an appt, and showed up on time. 2. They weren't the cheapest nor the most expensive. They clearly explained what needed to be done and quoted a fair price. 3. Their staffpeople were AWESOME, super-respectful about wearing masks, taking care of the premises, and always being on-time. Be very careful of these guys. They are a lot of talk and will try to convince you need major repairs if you have a problem. Recently had a problem with our HVAC system and called these guys up to take a look. Their "free consult" wasn't even free and they charged $200 to just take a look. They came off as condescending, arrogant, and unprofessional. They had this mansplaining attitude that seemed like we were the idiots. They wanted to replace the whole system for upwards of $10k. Luckily we were wise and found someone else who did a professional job for thousands of dollars less. They will also find other things that supposedly need major repair in your home. Avoid this place at all costs. In short: -They're non-responsive: I haven't gotten a call back or response to a text or email since they completed the work at my house at the end of last summer. -They're unprofessional: The owners (Steve and Jared) argue with each other and act like teenagers. I refused to pay a final (unanticipated) charge and asked that they call me so we could come to an agreement and they haven't called me since. -Service plans are not honored: I've made several requests for service or with concerns about the existing units and no one has responded -Misleading: I was invoiced for a subpanel for electric, but am told by a subsequent electrician that there doesn't appear to be any subpanel installed. Not sure what the cost was for that, but I didn't get it. I had a/c installed consisting of 2 mini-splits on the first floor and vented a/c on the second floor. ($18k) The second floor vented a/c never cooled the rooms sufficiently and it turned out to be because whatever was installed never had the capacity to do so. Jared and Steve admitted that they were in a lawsuit with the a/c manufacturing company(?) because of the misinformation they were given(?) Whatever the case, they came back and added mini-splits in the upstairs bedrooms at no further cost to me in order to solve for their mistake. My initial request was that they remove the upstairs work and refund me, but that wasn't an option from their perspective. They left the vented unit and vents in place, but added mini-splits in each of the bedrooms (that I never wanted in the first place) without removing any of the vents in the ceilings since technically they would still work? Its an eyesore now. Given that there are now mini-splits in each of the bedrooms, I asked if finally they could at least shut off the vents in the 4 bedrooms so the vented a/c would be directed only in the bathroom and hallway (which didn't get mini-splits). They agreed to do this but later came back with an additional bill of over $4,000 which I never agreed to and they never provided any sort of estimate. My assumption was that they would merely be closing off 4 vents, which would redirect the cold air to the remaining 2 vents (bathroom and hall). Of course I don't know HVAC, so it might have been in their best interest to lay it out for me to explain the effort and cost before beginning the work to make sure I was willing to pay an additional 25% of the original price to ultimately fix what they failed to deliver in the first place. I have placed at least 20 calls, emails, texts since the work was completed and have never, NOT ONCE, received a reply. They are clearly fed up with this job and are angry that I'm disputing the final $4,000 and so they've written me off completely. Not honoring the service plan, not communicating at all. This was the biggest mistake I've made financially. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE. If everything goes well, it sounds like you'll be happy. If everything doesn't, IT WILL BE A NIGHTMARE. Made an appointment with Jarod to have my heating system serviced. No one showed up or called. I called. Was told someone would contact me. No one did. Called again. Finally received a call from Steve (?). I asked why no one came . He was quite rude. Claimed he had no idea who I was and there was no appointment for me. Hello, I received this recommendation from Melrose MA FB page. I had a leak in bathroom faucet that was leaking into the basement. They were able to squeeze me in Tim and Justin were amazing. They fixed the leak, vacuum the water up. In the basement they saw wires were not connected properly. I also had them install a new garbage disposal. In doing this they realized my fuses were not working and fixed them. I had thought a light was burned out and ny microwave was broken Nope they were not working because of the blown fuses i did not knew needed to be fixed. After a long search, we finally found a company with enthusiasm and expertise in steam radiators. Despite the fact that our radiators are nearly 100 years old, they were able to find and replace an antique part that improves our radiators' performance. And- although it was not the original reason that we contacted them, they also disconnected old gas lines to an outdated antique stove and dryer. They were extremely knowledgeable and professional. We have old steam heat radiators and we have lived in our house for 3 years and the heat hasn't worked well. Our bedroom radiator bangs and there was no heat so for three winters we have froze and got woken up in middle of night with banging. I had 4 plumbers come and look at the heat and none of them fixed it. I was at my wits end and found Chilli Willie. They came out and in 2 minutes diagnosed the problem (the boiler was installed wrong). They came back a week later and replaced the pipes and fixed the radiators.
