Doctor Mathew Brooks is a great, caring Doctor! I misread him early on and I feel so terrible about it. I thank God I still have him as my wife's Doctor in Honeyoe family practice along with his staff. Soon he'll be my Doctor also. I was a long time patient of HVFP and absolutely loved my doctor and the PA. They were both caring and empathetic and I always felt comfortable with both of them. The downfall of this clinic is their staff. I called to ask to see a doctor regarding an Rx refill and the receptionist made a derogatory comment about the medication I was prescribed. She also proceeded to lecture me about how I was due for a med check, etc. Having had poor experiences there before just attempting to get an appointment (long wait times, no voicemail), I was also attempting to get my file transferred to my new physician. The receptionist claimed I never submitted this request and basically stopped short of calling me a liar. This was hands down one of the most horrific experiences I have had and I wouldn't step foot back in this practice. read more

I have been with HVFP for about 30 years. Unfortunately this platform seems to be the place to take out one bad experience, Everyone on the staff has been responsive to me. My primary care physician could not be more caring and if he's unavailable I am directed to another doctor to deal with situations that are urgent. Sure there are times when I have been ill and the phone system frustrates me. It is hard to get through at times. But one star? Come on folks! All the health issue I have at 67 are from a lack of follow through. The MDs PAs Nurses and staff have been great! I would highly recommend this practice. read more

I have been with HVFP for probably 40 years. They were my husband's, and my kids doctors. They have always been very caring and thorough with us. I had a problem once when one of the pa's did not catch something, but one of the doctors did and he was very thorough and caring to make sure I was taken care of correctly. My family and I have been part of HVFP since we first moved to the area back in the 1980s. My Dad started going here when Mom passed away and he returned to NY state. My kids (all adults, now) have continued to see their doctors here, even though they're no longer living "in town". I can't count the number of times the HVFP doctors have gotten back to us or helped us over the weekend - even coming into the office after hours to attend to an urgent medical need. They've never made us feel rushed - always listening to our concerns and giving us wise advice. Our primary also did a great job birthing all of our sons. Admittedly, there have been a few times when the staff has been unnecessarily curt, or seemed to not be paying attention. But who among us has never been "less than our best" in some personal interaction? Nevertheless, the bottom line is that we've received consistently above average care over a long period of time, and have great respect for the HVFP team and their faithful service to our community. I'm a 37 year patient of HVFP and don't intend to change. My care has always been comprehensive, with no trouble scheduling for my convenience. The office always had me come right in for urgent matters. If there were some instances of 'professionally incorrect' communication, and statistics would say there must have been in all those years, I can't remember them. I would advise anyone who has an experience with staff that is so negative to speak with the office manager or their doctor. Wouldn't you do the same, if a bank teller or grocery clerk was disrespectful? read more

Our family goes to this doctors office strictly out of convenience - and also because it's hard to find another practice accepting patients. The doctors themselves are fine, they are great for flu, strep, ear infection kind of visits. Hey they even got a piece of glass out of my thumb once. But the staff continually blows my mind with their lack of flexibility, the office hours are impossible to navigate & they must triple book given the wait times. I've been left in a room for 2 hours before - naked - with pneumonia - that was left untreated & I later went to the ER. The office is closed from 11:45-whenever they remember to turn the phone back on. It is a constant struggle. And I wish I could find ANY alternative. BEWARE. read more

I have worked with Dr. Greenwood at Honeoye Valley Family Practice for the last 4 years. I have never had such a consistently positive experience at any doctor's office. I've never waited more than 5 minutes. All the staff are friendly, professional, and kind. Always. Dr. Greenwood is a gem!. At age 68 I have had a lot of health problems in the last few years, despite a very healthy lifestyle. Dr. Greenwood is extremely thorough. I often get 30 to 45 minute visits. She explains things in a way I can understand and has tremendous knowledge about most areas and even was able to treat some difficulties that specialists had missed. I think what I appreciate about her the most is that she is calm and always listens. I have often wanted to try alternative treatments and she respectfully gives me the facts. One of the other reviewers here at Yelp complained that Dr. Greenwood sent her to the hospital with her baby, but I would be happy to have a Dr. potentially save my child's life rather than take a chance. read more

I have been a patient of this office for several years now and each year, I wonder why I still am. I originally chose H.F. Valley Family Practice because it was at the time, a convenient location. I wish I had done my homework before becoming involved here. The office staff is generally very rude (with the exception of your occasionally friendly worker) and almost ALWAYS not helpful. They by no means will go out of their way to help their patients or even to explain things to you when calling in with a question about scheduling, medical forms etc. Even if they weren't able to help me concerning my questions, I'd be happy to at least hear a friendly voice on the other side of the phone. Every time I call their office, I cringe a little wondering what kind of snappy receptionist is going to pick up my call this time. They are the most unfriendly bunch I've encountered at a doctor's office. The office staff seems to think it's OK to openly and loudly talk about your personal information (address, phone, insurance info). The office staff needs a lesson on "HIPAA". I'm not generally a paranoid person, but I've had my information blurted out several times while several others in the office small office lobby listened in which obviously was less than ideal. (I used to work at a doctor's office and we have been in BIG trouble if we did that!) I probably should have started off by saying that it's actually extremely difficult to call the office. As in, the phone is busy 99% of the time. When it's not busy, their "lunch voicemail" is on, which seems to always be on longer than the actual lunch time they designate. Actually having someone pick up the call is rare unless you call non-stop for at least a half hour (in my experience at least). I have seen two different female doctors in the practice. Though both are kind, only one seems like they actually know what they're talking about and gave me real, focused time in our appointments. The nurses and PAs are helpful most of the time, but I find them to be very unprofessional in how they speak throughout the office while patients are listening. I've also been misguided regarding a few medical questions through one nurse in particular which caused me quite a bit of frustration. One other thing I'd like to add: I know that I am not the only one who feels this way. I've heard these exact same complaints from several other individuals in the area that either were, or are patients. Overall, I would never recommend this office. There are more professional offices to use in the Greater Rochester area with competent office staff and sound doctors. Pick one of those instead! I have gone to this practice for more than a decade and without exception the care I have received has been exemplary. Over the years, I have been seen by almost all of the physicians in the practice and have always had top-quality care. The doctors have been trained at top medical schools and hospitals in the country including Jefferson in Philadelphia, Brigham and Womens in Boston, the University of Rochester and others. In 2014 we moved to HF and in 2015, had our second baby. Rather than drive to Irondequoit for our AMAZING pediatrician, I thought we'd start fresh with a local to make our lives easier. As I write this, I am in the process of transferring my now 1 year old to our original pediatrician, 35 minutes north of where we reside, a total inconvenience, because of my repeated displeasure with this practice. I will preface by saying the nurses and PA's we've seen are darling. The practice itself is probably fine for an adult, but if its a children's doctor you seek, save yourself the trouble and go to an actual pediatrician. Two times my baby had a fever and both times I brought him in before a weekend as a just-in-case measure. BOTH times we were seen, checked and sent to the ER. Both times it was against my instinct as a mother, but I tend to heed the advice of the doctor when it comes to my children. The first time, I was going through the motions. Allowing them to catheter, IV and basically torture my baby for a simple fever in an otherwise normal, happy baby. A baby who was nursing fine, smiling, had good color etc... The hospital is going to follow their protocol, and for good reason. Just turned out in our case, it was just a plain ol' virus and he was fine the next day. Ok, I erred on the side of caution, no harm no foul. (until I got the bill.) The second time, I saw Dr. Greenwood, who is not our primary care doctor. She saw my then 5 month old, who had a fever and a runny nose. Again, he was nursing fine, had normal color and was active and normal. She thought she might have heard some rattling in his lungs so again, I was sent to the ER. Again, put through the ringer... this time with a chest XRAY, too. Again, another missed day of work spent in the hospital. The ER doc examined him and said to me "find a new pediatrician" and gave me a list or reputable doctors at Pittsford Pediatrics he recommended. He said family practices tend to over send children to the ER out of an abundance of caution because they are not specialists. Learned this the hard way. PS - my first born had fevers all the time as a baby and never once did his ped send us anywhere but the pharmacy, as needed. MY LAST STRAW: After an exhausting day of torturing my baby (who again was fine soon thereafter), I received a follow up call from HF Family Practice checking on my son. They said "sounds like it was just the ear infection, then." Dr. Greenwood found a source of fever and let me go to the ER without knowing that. The ER never checked his ears because I told them we were sent for rattling lungs (which were clear.) My 5 month old baby had an ear infection (STANDARD) and it was left untreated. Complete negligence. After I received the $1800 bill from the ER, Dr. Greenwood billed me for the sick visit she so wonderfully serviced us with. No amount of convenience is worth bringing my children back to this practice. I will not ever be able to fully trust their judgment and if they were to send me to the ER again, I would have to choose whether or not they are right or wrong - this is NOT ok. I should be able to fully trust the recommendations of an experienced physician and not question them. This "convenience" has cost me a couple of thousands of dollars and me letting my baby ride out a cough for fear they will poorly advise me again which results in wasted time and wasted dollars. Not fair to my children. GO TO A REAL PEDIATRICIAN. Even if you have to drive a significantly further distance. read more

I have had good experiences with most of the doctors in this office but the office staff is absolutely unreal. I called to make an appointment because I was sick (turns out I had an ear infection and bronchitis) and the receptionist told me I probably just had wax in my ear. Today, Wednesday morning, I called to ask for a prescription refill. I was told that they had to ask my doctor when she arrives later today and then on FRIDAY I have to CALL THE FLIPPING PHARMACY to see if my request was granted. It's 2016 and I have to wait a minimum of two days to find out if I POSSIBLY MIGHT have a refill? read more

I recently moved to the Lima area and was looking for a new family Dr. I called the Honeoye Valley Family Practice to find out that they were indeed accepting new patients, I explained to her that my heart had been skipping beats and I was getting lightheaded with this and that I would like to set up an appointment to see the Dr. She cut me off rudely telling me that they don't even set up appointments until you download their forms from their website, fill them out, send them back and wait for them to review them. I went to the Thompson Urgent Care facility instead. What has become of the medical practice? I can't believe how they are now. I wouldn't go to this facility now if I were dying! read more

They guess at diagnosis...take your copay. Then send you to hospital. Then they call you back a few days later you tell them you still are not feeling well "oh you better come right back in". They then spend some time with you and attempt to diagnosis you this time take your copay again and guess by having you pick up a few prescriptions and let us know if this may work. Why couldn't you try that the first time...Oh I know lets keep charging you more money as well as the health care system. We wonder why our insurances are so high because we just keep charging them and customers so they can make more money while they guess to get you healthy. read more

I was a patient here for four years and if it wasn't for the amazing doctors, the staff would have caused me to leave after the first visit. Words cannot express the doltish behavior of the staff running this office. Period. Full stop. I recently moved due to work and asked to have my medical records transferred to my new doctor. They require a written letter of consent with my signature so I wrote one out and tried to fax it. I literally tried to fax it a couple times throughout the day and every time I received a busy signal. I called the following day and asked if I could scan and email the release document. The person I was speaking with said, "We don't do email". It's one thing to not offer an email address because of confidentiality concerns, it's another to outright say to me over the phone that you don't do email because of the "sheer" number of people the office treats. Let's be honest for a minute here. Let's say there's 12 doctors at this office. Let's say each doctor has about 100 patients. Right now we're at 1200 people, yeah? Now let's say at any given time this office treats 60% of those patients (They're "very" busy) which comes out to 720 people. They're open 6 days a week and 720/6 is 120 people a day. Which when you count their office hours is anywhere between 9-13 people an hour visiting. As you can see, even with an improbably high number of patients going through their system, if they can't handle at most 13 people an hour with paperwork, they're hopeless. I know every doctor and staff member has a laptop. I know they all store medical records on these laptops. It would be absolutely insane to say they don't have some form of email communication amongst each other. Another thing that really irritated me was their lunch breaks. I get it, we all need to eat and I'm not saying everyone should be at their desk during lunch but I don't think it's unreasonable to have at least one person man the phone then when everyone else gets back in, that person takes their break. Just an intolerable amount of sass from the receptionist and poor experience from staff. Doctors are wonderful and genuinely care but I'm not so sure it's worth the hassle. read more
