Great meadery on mainstreet Fun interior, bar seating, comfy couches, and tables. They offer flights, glasses and bottles. Their mead is a little lighter than others I've had though they all had rich layered flavor profiles and a nice finish. Issac, one of the owners, helped us and was awesome! He took the time to tell us about each of the meads, their process and a little about how they got started. I really enjoyed everything we tried and bought a few bottles to bring home. What we tried:(descriptions are directly from their tasting notes) *Hopped Strawberry Session This session style is semisweet Hopped with Amarillo and El Dorado hops. Dank hops aroma with a hint of fresh strawberries. Fresh berries and honey on the palate Best enjoyed chilled. *Blackberry Session Fresh blackberry aroma on the nose Clean refreshing blackberry on the palate with a slightly tart finish Best enjoyed chilled. ABV.7% *V(Five Year Anniversary) Black & Blue aged two months in a Portuguese port barrel that aged bourbon rom A Smith Bowman. A full-bodied semi-sweet melomel, with blueberries, black currants, and black pepper. Berries on the nose. Tart up front followed by sweet fruit, rounded out by a hint of black pepper and port. Best enjoyed at room temperature. *Midnight Sun A sweet blood orange melorel. Hopped with Citra and Cascade hops. Hops and citrus on the nose. Bright sweet citrus lead to a slight hoppy bitter finish. Best enjoyed chilled ABV: 12-13% *Helltown Lemonade A semi-sweet capsicumel with lemons and scorpion peppers. Citrus and peppers on the nose. Heavy citrus on the palate that is quickly overtaken by scorpion peppers. ABV: 11% My rating rationale for beer, wine, or spirits: +1 Service +1 Atmosphere/Vibe +1 Taste/Quality (Flavor, aroma, and overall quality of the beverage) +1 Presentation (Glassware, garnishes, and visual appeal of the drinks) +1 Selection/Variety (Range of beer, wine, or spirit options and uniqueness of offerings)

This place is really nice inside. Plenty of seating at the bar and tables throughout the inside. They have games and a large stage for music. The bartender was very nice and patiently walked us through their menu. The do have some warm food on site from the bakery a few doors down. I got an empanada that was out of this world. Check them out!

So let me just start by saying that I literally stumbled into Honey & Hops Brew Works. It is in Front Royal VA and I was headed to a brewery which was in the area. I had actually searched breweries on Yelp in Front Royal, but this spot didn't come up because it is classified under meaderies only. Might want to add beer and wine, because in my experience, typically people who like beer and wine also like mead. Honey & Hops has a clean feel and is progressive when it comes to places where you can have great brewed beverages. I had the pleasure to meet Adam who was wonderful. He introduced me to all of their varieties of mead. He also gave me good local directions to the Brewery I was trying to visit, which I actually thought was closed, until he explained that the main entrance was in the back. Honey & Hops is owned by 3 brothers, Adam, Isaac, and Ian. Adam is the mead brewer and he is a genius in my most humble opinion. The creeper is my absolute favorite. The Meads: Summertime Sesssion: Hopped Lemon 7% ABV... refreshing and delicious, it is like a sparkling wine with hints of lemon and honey Back Trails 13.9% ABV... semi sweet, blueberries and honey, slightly dry for a mead, loved this one! Crandemic 13.2% ABV... crisp cranberry deliciousness. Even if you are not a fan of cranberries, you will probably like this. Midnight Sun 12-13% ABV... tastes like a great tasting sweet wine CREEPER 10-12% ABV... OMG DELICIOUS, FIRE ... imagine a white with chocolate and Carolina reaper pepper, you can't can you? That is why you have to try this. I could drink this all day. It was that good. Suffice to say, I would come back to Front Royal VA just to have more of Honey & Hops Mead. What a wonderful experience!!!

Hubby had been wanting to come here so we took a trip up here. When we got here, they weren't open yet so we checked out some other spots. When they finally did open, we waltzed on inside. There was one other guy in there at the bar, since they had just opened. We didn't know it was a mead place. We were thinking brewery. Maybe we're not very bright. Idk. I had only had mead one other time before and wasn't impressed. We got our menus and a couple things sounded good so our bartender suggested a flight. We both did a flight and got different things so we could try more. I'm obsessed with the movie, scream, so I was excited Ghostface was on a bottle. Luckily I picked that to try. It was the orange screamsicle and it was good. It actually tastes like a creamsicle too. I also tried a raspberry, strawberry, a Chardonnay kinda one..idk what else. Hubby tried some things too. We ended up taking home a bottle of the lemonade one and then another one that tasted like Mexican hot chocolate. It had some capsicum peppers and cinnamon. I didn't even pick it for my flight. Hubby did and I ended up loving it. This place was so great. Our bartender was so friendly. It was clean and open and just so welcoming. I hope we can order online so I can get some more of the Mexican hot chocolate one. I loooooved it.

We stopped in this past Saturday to visit Honey & Hops Brew Works - a meadery that opened in Front Royal about a year ago. They recently moved to the current location to have more space. We entered wearing face masks and were greeted by one of the owners - Isaac. We found a place at the counter and opted for a full tasting, and then removed our face masks. The staff says masked the entire time. We were very impressed with all of their meads - I believe we tasted 9 meads. Most were poured from bottles, one was on tap. While I enjoyed most of them - my absolute favorites were: - Crandemic (Cranberry Melomel) - Orange Screamsicle (Metheglin spiced with Carolina Reaper peppers) - Back Trails (Blueberry Melomel) - Forgotten Hatchet (Cyser made with I think 7 different Apple species) I ended up buying a bottle each to take home of the Crandemic (great name during a Pandemic!); the Orange Screamsicle - which had a delightful intersection of sweet and heat; and the Back Trails - pure blueberry bliss! We also tasted a couple of Bochets (meads made with caramelized honey), and another made with coffee beans. Throughout the meadery - they have utilized the hexagonal honeycomb shape in much of the design and decor of the facility. Very cool! The staff was very nice. Check this place out! We all paid for our tabs contactless - using Apple Pay. #HoneyAndHopsBrewWorks

It was a cool, cloudy Saturday when we arrived. We were the only customers when we arrived, which was sort of cool - as we could insure social distancing. There are currently two tables inside - and a bunch of seating outside at picnic tables. It was threatening to rain - so we opted for the table all the way in the back. We entered wearing face masks, ordered, and then went back to a table and removed our masks. The staff person was masked the entire time. Saga offers two flights of Mead - so we tasted everything. I've seen some of the previous reviewers state during their experience that the meads were on the drier side - but at least for us - during our visit - the meads we sampled were on the sweeter side. 2 oz. pours for each sample - 8 meads in all. The inside of the facility is very cozy - lots of gorgeous hardwoods. The mead is actually made elsewhere - far to the South! The lady who was serving us - I believe her name was Annie, told us where the owner makes the mead, but I cannot recall where. Nice place and folks! We enjoyed our visit to Saga Meadery! Usually meaderies use a lot of juice to save money on the honey, but not this place. If you tilt their bottles, it takes TIME for that mead to shift. That's how you know it's more honey than juice. It's absolutely amazing. I haven't had a single flavor here that I didn't like. You can't go wrong with anything here. The pricing is good. It's more expensive to buy a bottle here than from Mom's Apple Pie down in Bluemont, which is weird, since this is where the mead comes from. But either way, you support an amazing business. Service (5/5): GREAT service. The owner mans the counter and is so nice and explains the different flavors and the whole process! You get a mead lesson AND get to drink. Ambiance (5/5): So. You pull up to what seems like someone's backyard with a shipping container on it. The parking lot is gravel, there's PLENTY of parking tho, so don't worry about that. Then you just walk over to the shipping container and BAM you're at the bar. There is VERY limited seating, so don't expect to bring a whole group of people here and expect to sit down. You're lucky to find 2 seats next to each other. The scent of honey lingers in the air, making the whole room smell delicious. TLDR: Great mead.

They offer free tastings of all of their meads, and most of them can be in a flight of 3-5oz pours, depending on ABV. The Zanzibar and Mead Marian were my favorites -- one was their standard, and the other was their strongest. The honey taste really comes out most of the time. They don't make their own food, but they offer some snacks and sell patties and desserts from Shortcake Bakery, the shop next door.
