We parked across the street in the gravel lot, signs have the buildings number (252) on them designating the spots. Building does have stairs, but they also have a small lift for handicap accessibility. Interior looks exactly like you would expect in a place like this, full of wood everywhere. Due to COVID restrictions, you have to order food, and they have a basic menu that includes things like hot pretzel braids. Our group sampled various Mead's and liked them, but they do offer Beer and Soda. Staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The highlight of the trip and worth every dollar was the axe throwing. You purchase a ticket at the main register, walk over to the throwing area, and sign in. They give you clear instruction how to do it and you're throwing. The instructor was great and very personable. The throwing is very safe and our group loved it, even when we didn't always find the target. Absolutely would return here.

Axe throwing was such a great way to let off steam. The instructors were very knowledgeable and didn't hover or make us uncomfortable and they would offer tips as needed but just let us do our thing. I definitely recommend and will go back. They have a small off street parking area too.

BLUF: Best mead in VA. Limited seating…read more Drinks (5/5): They have the BEST mead in all of VA. They use more honey than any other meadery I've been to. Usually meaderies use a lot of juice to save money on the honey, but not this place. If you tilt their bottles, it takes TIME for that mead to shift. That's how you know it's more honey than juice. It's absolutely amazing. I haven't had a single flavor here that I didn't like. You can't go wrong with anything here. The pricing is good. It's more expensive to buy a bottle here than from Mom's Apple Pie down in Bluemont, which is weird, since this is where the mead comes from. But either way, you support an amazing business. Service (5/5): GREAT service. The owner mans the counter and is so nice and explains the different flavors and the whole process! You get a mead lesson AND get to drink. Ambiance (5/5): So. You pull up to what seems like someone's backyard with a shipping container on it. The parking lot is gravel, there's PLENTY of parking tho, so don't worry about that. Then you just walk over to the shipping container and BAM you're at the bar. There is VERY limited seating, so don't expect to bring a whole group of people here and expect to sit down. You're lucky to find 2 seats next to each other. The scent of honey lingers in the air, making the whole room smell delicious. TLDR: Great mead.

We ordered 2 flights so we could taste all the current meads and they were all awesome, we couldnt pick a favorite. Richard the meadmaker was super friendly and knowledgebale telling us about the different meads, mead making process, and their farm/meadery. Misty Mountain has been making mead for 20 years! We have had mead from several other meaderies, this by far is our new favorite. You can order flights, mead by the glass and bottles. They also have other related merch for sale. Tasting room decor is eclectic, medievil, bee/honey motif. Bar seating as well as some tables. Gender neutral bathrooms, plenty of parking. I peeped their website and noted that they sold Shortcake Bakery's patties, which is what I was looking for. Inside, this place is funky and fun. The staff were friendly. I tasted a few meads and went with the Mead Marian, a traditional mead, which was quite good. I also had the vegetable and curry chicken patties, which were excellent. The bathroom had a primer on bees, which was helpful and means I am minimally less likely to run screaming from them. I highly recommend siting and I am looking forward to returning.

One of the main mead ingredients is honey, which explains why they use a bee as their logo. They offer free tastings of all of their meads, and most of them can be in a flight of 3-5oz pours, depending on ABV. The Zanzibar and Mead Marian were my favorites -- one was their standard, and the other was their strongest. They were a lot of cool ones in between, like one having a coffee flavor, one being spicy, some being combined with fruits.... there was a lot of fun to be had tasting all of those. The honey taste really comes out most of the time. They don't make their own food, but they offer some snacks and sell patties and desserts from Shortcake Bakery, the shop next door. I had a chicken and veggie patty -- both were delicious and flaky! It also ended up being a night when a live performer was playing. I was devastated to see that I had just missed karaoke the night before though. The band was AWESOME, I have to say... very funky, and they weren't too loud either for the space. Some folks from my party got up dancing, so that's a good sign yeah?? All in all, I'd delightfully come back here just to hang out. Did I mention they have a bunch of board games? Pro tip: parking outside is EXTREMELY limited -- overflow is at the park across the street from Shortcake Bakery. After a certain time, you need to grab a pass from inside Meadworks.

It was a cool, cloudy Saturday when we arrived. We were the only customers when we arrived, which was sort of cool - as we could insure social distancing. There are currently two tables inside - and a bunch of seating outside at picnic tables. It was threatening to rain - so we opted for the table all the way in the back. We entered wearing face masks, ordered, and then went back to a table and removed our masks. The staff person was masked the entire time. Saga offers two flights of Mead - so we tasted everything. I've seen some of the previous reviewers state during their experience that the meads were on the drier side - but at least for us - during our visit - the meads we sampled were on the sweeter side. 2 oz. pours for each sample - 8 meads in all. The inside of the facility is very cozy - lots of gorgeous hardwoods. The mead is actually made elsewhere - far to the South! The lady who was serving us - I believe her name was Annie, told us where the owner makes the mead, but I cannot recall where. Nice place and folks! We enjoyed our visit to Saga Meadery! Check them out! #SagaMeaderyAndWinery
