When I attempted to have a polite conversation about pricing, the owner was dismissive, rude, and made it clear that negotiation was not welcome at all. Between the overcrowded, messy environment, excessive pricing, and unprofessional attitude from the owner, this shop offers a very unpleasant customer experience. Carmen works for a few hours every day, upholding a family business that probably makes no real monetary sense (IMHO). She told me her hours are basically conditional as long as she gets a ride. I called ahead and she picked up. She's there a few hours a day, but so helpful. I needed this 1 odd piece of HO track. I could have searched ebay and waited and hoped, but instead, she saw the picture, knew she had it, and we even found a used one she sold me for $5. They have every scale! Sure, some of the inventory is priced high, but I also have found some really good deals (on some G-scale box cars) here that had some San Diego history. And then you get the experience of a real store, a real chance to find exactly what you need, and a real gem of a woman keeping up her husband and family's tradition and enthusiasm for trains. We're lucky to have this last train shop, as long as it lasts. Come with a smile (and cash only). You won't regret it.

We locked eyes for a brief moment and nodded to one another, communicating in a way that only men with a purpose can understand. He approached under the guise of checking inventory, smoothly snatched the bumblebee undetected and slinked away behind the counter. Later, when I brought my girlfriend to the counter and asked if he had a surprise for me, he gave a big smile and a grand flourish as he presented my gift. What's also impressive was the staff and the selection. I had been shopping al night, and still hadn't found "just the right thing" for a few people on my list. My dog lovers, cat lovers and well I can't say much more, cuz then they'll know what they are getting. This store came through for me! I found things I never would have thought of, or even known to shop for online. It inspired gift ideas for even the hardest people to shop for. I was looking for a particular something. And I only saw one on the shelf. The woman working went into the backstock, checked about 10 boxes and found me a matching "something". That's customer service at its finest.
