Despite a welcoming ambiance with interesting honeycomb decors along the walls, the employees went out of their way to dismiss the customers' desire to place an order. Another healthy food spot in the city. Love the location in the city. The team was really helpful when it came to ordering off the menu - there are plenty of fresh selections. The store inside is very aesthetic to look at and was a good experience to sit and relax. I didn't really know the backstory but the foods on the menu are actually curated to be good for the brain. They also host events dedicated to brain health. Food wise, decided to go with the Super Sweet Potato Bowl - it was good, nothing too crazy special. But I haven't been back to Honeybrains in over a year being bicoastal and was in the neighborhood coming out of the gym so I came looking for the jerk salmon bowl (which they sadly got rid of). But the employee there suggested maybe the chirashi bowl with miso salmon - BOMB!!! Was so good I just walked out and had to leave a review lol. I didn't get the girls name (had bangs and a hat) but she was so nice and helpful and just seemed happy lol - not typical for a walk in type of food place! So that was nice (when I would go would usually be the downtown location and don't recall the same type of service!). But that bowl! Miso salmon was sooooo perfectly marinated and cooked. I make that at home marinating it for days and haven't gotten it like that yet. But the wasabi sauce was such a surprise. Amazing. I think the owners and chef were having a meeting right on the floor but I so badly wanted to interrupt it to tell them to please keep this bowl and salmon in their plans forever lol. As you walk in towards the back to order food (you can order food at the juice bar I believe it is), there will be lots of seats and tables to sit at. The place is spacious and if you dine in, staff will ask you for your vaccination card. I've been here twice and loved both times I've been here. I've tried the Daily Catch brain bowl and the Chicken & Rice brain bowl. Both are gluten free (not that I don't eat gluten but it's nice to know) and the portion size is more than enough for one person. The Daily Catch brain bowl has Atlantic salmon garnished with crushed peanuts, cilantro & red chillies, kale, and Honeybrains seasoned sweet potatoes. It was a slightly weird combination with the sweet potatoes but it somehow worked. The salmon was a bit dry but with the sauce on the side (which I extremely appreciate so I can pour in how much I want), it was okay. The Chicken & Rice brain bowl had pulled free-range HB season chicken, Zaatar spiced chickpeas, Himalayan ruby rice, and raw baby spinach. I personally liked this one more probably because the chicken was pretty flavorful and I like rice! There was some green sauce on the side, again really appreciate that, and it was really delicious. This was recommended by the staff because I came in super hungry and couldn't decide what to pick so she picked it for me, making sure I didn't have any allergies or asking if there were any thing I wouldn't like. So far I've only encountered friendly staff and I can't complain! The food here can be a little pricey but as we all know, healthy food is always more pricey than fast food! Oh, Honeybrains, how I wanted to love you... but your bowls are just bland. Something's just missing for me--maybe not enough sauce?? The portion sizes are good, so I'll give you props for that. But, otherwise, your lunch just didn't make my day. As for the process of ordering, it's confusing. I went in, and there are two stations (one for coffee and the other for food). It was immediately clear what to do. Once I figured things out, I went up to the food ordering area, and no one greeted me or navigated me where to go and what to do. Then, when I got back to my office with the food and started eating, I was like, "meh." I had ordered the salmon over rice and fresh spinach, which was dry. In other words, the small bit of sauce the meal came with was clearly not enough to flavor the meal. Oh, and speaking of the sauce, it was way too sweet for me. I guess it was made with honey (maybe all of their sauces are since the spot is called "honeybrains"), which is conceptually okay. But it was made with way too much honey IMHO. I agree with reviewer Michelle R. who said the menu sounds great in theory... but something just misses the mark for me. I only come into work 2 days a week now, so I want to be blown away with each lunch I purchase (I mean, the price of lunch in NYC is not cheap). If you add a protein on a salad, be prepared to spend $20. I've also noticed that the salad have been under-dressed so if I return, I'd be sure to ask for an extra dressing. I ordered a chicken tikka bowl and subbed out the regular chicken for a chicken cutlet. Unfortunately the chicken ended up being the downfall of the bowl. You'd typically expect to find white meat in a cutlet, and instead this meat was dark and fatty. Surprising to see, especially in a spot that is considered to be health conscious. The rest of the veggies in the bowl weren't super flavorful, and I only ended up being able to stomach a very small amount. This could have just been the wrong order, because my coworkers all really seemed to enjoy their meal. Womp... if there is a next time I'll switch it up. read more

Our group of 6 or 7 met here around 11:45 and had no problem finding a table for the lot of us. Everything on the menu looks amazing, and I love thinking that, for the most part, whatever I get will be good for me (or at least my brain). I got the Daily Catch Bowl and a Ginger shot. What I loved: The bowl was huge and filled to the rim with fresh kale. I didn't know if I'd like the peanuts they drizzle on top so they had no problem adding them on the side. (I ended up using all of them). The sweet potatoes that came with the bowl were insane. I'm not kidding, I tried to get each of my friends to try one. They tasted like french toast. Can something that sweet and delicious really be good for your brain???? The salmon was actually cooked perfectly. I am kind of shocked, because this is a fast casual place after all. A place that purports to have designed the menu specifically with food that is good for the brain in mind will simultaneously get an eye roll and a curious glance from me. On the one hand, I don't like how blatantly gimmicky their marketing sounds. On the other hand....I want to eat food that's good for my brain, don't I? I must still be reeling from my New Year's revelry. Nurse my brain back to health, Honeybrains! I fully believe placebo effect to be a pretty good healer-- in this case what I'm referring to are shots like the citrus immunity one that Honeybrains suggests you should take to reduce cold symptoms. In the same way that hospital patients who receive reiki therapy often bleed less, believing and hoping a little bit of ginger and zinc will stave off a stuffy nose might do something for my immune system. One shot of this and there was more pep in my step, and that's good enough for me. The green goddess salad came with plenty of kale, dressed perfectly with the labneh anchovy dressing which, by the way, doesn't taste fishy at all. Not much in the way of texture going on in this salad, but the salmon I got on top was truly cooked to perfection. Both salmon and salad came as hefty portions, and I was more than full when I was done. Whether my brain is better for it than if I were to have eaten elsewhere remains to be seen. read more

Not really worth the price tag but a decent place if you want to eat/work at the same time. The salad bowl is around 13-15 dollars or more depending on add-ons. I was disappointed to find out that all of their salads are pre-packed and all of their proteins are precooked and refrigerated. Because they are pre-packed, you can't customize either. For the price tag, I think Sweet Greens or Chopt is - much better bang for your buck! The space is open for dine in as of April 2021 with every other table blocked off. They seem to be pretty busy during lunch rush but it was pretty empty afterwards. If you want a spacious place to work, they provide wifi and have seats with outlets near by! read more

EDIT: The owner messaged me in under 12 hours apologizing and asking me to try them again, and also offered to refund my entire order (only part of which was missing). Will move to 2 stars from 1 until I get a chance to try again. At any other fast-casual build your own bowl spot, you can usually choose a grain or veggie base, 2-3 veggie sides, and a protein for $11-$14. Not here. At honeybrains you're locked in to a bowl of pure kale and sometimes one, or only two sides if you get a chicken based bowl. The sides come pre-picked with your bowl so there's no customization at all once you pick your protein. If you look at the two pictures attached, the same daily catch bowl had significantly less sweet potato (my only side) after I paid $4 extra for a add-on steak. I came here twice and my second order was a disaster. I also ordered a iced London Fog, for which they used hot earl gray tea to make (there was a teabag in my drink) so that my entire drink was melted by the time I picked up. They also forgot the extra salmon I paid for. Emailed their support and messaged them on instagram to get a refund for the missing protein (they posted multiple times in the days following my message) but no response. On the bright side, during my first trip the proteins were well cooked and the lemon dressing used for the Daily Catch bowl was pretty good. read more
