This is one of those places that you wish would tee itself up a bit.
It has a lot going for it; a wonderful setting on Carshalton Ponds (one of those hidden bits of heaven in London suburbia); it's in the same building as the Honeywood Museum and next to the Eco centre, and on one arm if the the Wandle cycle trail, so gets oodles of passing trade.
There's a small entrance are with chiller cabinets and counter, and inside an area with tables and chairs, though the outside area is nicer.
So, the pluses: you can have a table by the pond and feed the ducks; they do great cakes and very good ice creams; the staff are pleasant; and the prices are decent. They also rope an area off for children's buggies.
On the downside, I found the coffee to be bland, and service can be very, very slow. Oddly, the whole place just feels like a bit more imagination would go a long way. One downer they can't help is the proximity of the A232, but actually it's less intrusive than you might think.
A little bit more effort would up the rating as the location is just fab. read more
