I have heard this place is worth trying. It definitely was!!!!! I ordered the spareribs and pork fried rice combo, only I got beef fried rice and egg in the rice for an extra fee. The rice was a beautiful brown color, not that bright yellow. It was so extremely tasty, the beef was tender and savory. The ribs were tender and delicious, with a well-balanced flavor. It came with an egg roll that I gobbled up. Next time, I will try the chicken wings (I was watching a guy cut them up and almost added them to my order) and some roast pork egg foo young. Delicious, fresh, and authentic Chinese food with a welcoming staff. I ordered the fried chicken with plantains, and everything was fresh and flavorful. The chicken was fried perfectly, and they generously added the hot sauce and ketchup I requested. I also ordered the General Tso's chicken with white rice and two pork egg rolls, and it was just as delicious. The portions were satisfying, and the food was served fresh. During my visit, I experience decent customer service; an employee is kind and attempts to be thorough while seemingly busy. Even so, I make my order over the phone, ordering a small, not a large of the delicious Vegetable Mei Fun (due to being quite hungry after a smaller lunch of only 5g of protein a few hours earlier to an appointment). The price difference is a few dollars between the small and large. Still, what if one shows up at the eatery with only enough money to pay for the order set through the phone? The Vegetable Mei Fun is really tasty; my first bite consists of a few onions which are full of light savory-zesty flavor, a main highlight of the meal; every other part of the meal mixes in well, especially with the noodles which carry the flavors well. I don't find a need to add any other sauce though do add sauce to try the flavors mixing. All of the sauces mesh well with the ingredients though are not necessary. The original flavors of the meal are more than fine. The meal is quite filling. The eatery does not seem to have any set place for a customer to eat indoors. Since Chinese restaurants are pretty similar I have to rate them on other little things since the actual food is mostly similar. One of my go to's is pork ribs and pork fried rice. The counter lady even took my request of additional bbq sauce on the ribs. The food was pretty good and the came packaged in the plastic containers I may get a few more uses out of as opposed to the cartons. What I didn't like was the cut of the ribs, which are boneless, were too big. At Great Wall for example, they're sliced into nice cuts. So Hong am could be better at that. The actual Restaurant like the nearby Jin Lin, is strictly take our but Hong Am can at least put one or two small tables in there, at the very least sone chairs. I'd try here again but overall I think I'd recommend Jin Lin. Which is only about a. Lock away. read more

How did I miss this review?? This little hole in the wall chinese food place, is an absolute go! Amazingly fresh and made to order every single time. I saw the guys putting in freshly, battered wings and almost passed out. He advised me a little longer wait but I just smiled and said No problem! I've been doing laundry around the literal corner from them for years and didn't go in because of the outwards appearance. My husband actually tried it while he was waiting on dryers one day and came home with rave reviews. So, I had to. Outside is aged, needs an update and a good scrub to sign and windows. The inside- is clean and pristine. I was shell shocked. Honestly, I never would've expected. Typical Chinese fare with a few deals on special meals posted in ink to paper tagged randomly throughout the front. Prices are good, food is way better then the usual suspects. Wings, fresh, crispy, rice was real rice! Important nowadays lol Seriously though. Soft, fluffy, flavorful, delicious. Chicken and broccoli was perfectly made and a real ginger lemonade for the kill. Decent Chinese spot in orange NJ. They do not offer delivery which makes them a little inconvenient when ordering but their food is not bad. I love that they added garlic sauce to their wings as an option but it needed just a tad bit more garlic. I was completely disappointed with their shrimp in lobster sauce it was just so bland and undesirable. They seem to have a faithful clientele as the restaurant itself was pretty busy but I'm sure you can find somewhere else. read more

This place is ToGo only. No seating. Very inexpensive. They've been here for 35 years and do a good job at what they do. Very typical Chinese takeout where they are basically cooking your food right in front of you. Always fresh and very hot even after the ride home. read more

For a Chinese fast food restaurant, without a doubt, Hong Am takes home the gold. People might think that all Chinese food is the same, but the food from here is amazing. If you think your local Chinese spot is good, this place is better. And although it's not situated in the most ideal area in Orange, it's still worth the try. I always find their pork fried rice to always be soft, moist and flavorful everytime! It's never dry as it may be the case in other restaurants like Peking duck, and it definitely is worth it.
