Pork chop udon soup - Fried pork chop, with a fried egg and udon an amazing combo. Pork chop was made well, still a little crispy on the outside, well seasoned and just about cooked perfectly. Fried egg the same, a bit runny on the inside. A small amount of udon compared to the rice noodle soup below. Soup tasted a bit off, kinda like burnt onions... Braised beef wonton rice noodle soup - Beef was a more on the chewy side. Wontons were great and there was lots of rice noodles. Soup was tasty. French toast - The afternoon tea version has 2 slices of bread vs the regular 3 slices. This was a tall stack, not too eggy and not too crispy. A load of butter on top. Nice to try. They have lunch specials for $16.95 and you select a list of noodles or rice dish and it comes with a drink (tea, milk tea, coffee, lemon tea). Ordered a few lunch special dishes for sharing. Minced meat with eggplant efu noodles has a nice sweet umami taste and you can taste the wok hey flavours. Noodle texture was chewy. This was my favourite dish. Singapore vermicelli was spicy and strong curry flavour with lots of small shrimps. The noodles were a bit broken off. Wished the vermicelli noodles was held together nicely but overall flavour was good. Sticky rice with chinese sausages was slightly on the blend side but felt healthy. The sticky rice are soft but not oily. Beef rice noodles has good wok hey and the rice noodles are bouncy. Flavours from soy sauce along with the wok flavours are outstanding. This was simple yet delicious. Baked rice in tomato sauce with porkchop was tasty. Sauce was not too overly sweet and the porkchop was tender. The baked rice has good texture and cook time was just right for the dish. This is a great Hong Kong style cafe and lunch portion size was generous. This plaza has lots of parking space too. This is located inside Richlane beside Malibu Cafe in front of the BBQ pork small store. The place has 3 round tables, two with those circular rotating glass and one without. Although I feel like they can add one on the other round table. About 4 other 4-6 seater tables as well. Service is quick, not sure if it's likely because my father in-law is well known here and I come here with him. The food on the other hand came way too long this time around. The soup was fast of course but the first food that came out was 25mins after. Losing a star because of that for sure. Lots of take out was prioritized perhaps. The pork chop had too much fatty parts on it, little meat only. Everything else was fine. Menu is in English and Chinese. The ones on the wall are all in Chinese so make sure to bring someone who can read. Food is your usual HK food, I would come here whenever I need something quick and I'm in the area with my father in-law. Went for the afternoon tea (2-5pm). Prices are on the higher end, but the portions are relatively large. Got their wonton and beef brisket rice noodle (10), deep fried pork chop udon soup (7), and hk french toast w pb. The beef brisket flavour is really nice, but a tiny bit dry/chewy. There are only 2 shrimp wontons, but also tasty. So much noodles. The deep fried pork chop was soo good. My partner didn't like the flavour of the soup though. Less noodles in comparison to the beef brisket. I would get this next time. Both soup dishes came with veggies which is nice (and not the frozen veggies--peas, corn, green beans). We originally ordered the hk style toast from the afternoon tea menu, but they suggested ordering off the regular menu, since we had 3 complimentary drinks and only 2 people. It's $3 cheaper and has an extra slice of bread. I didn't appreciate the extra slice, until I saw that they put pb in between each slice. While that was appreciated, the pb didn't reach the edges (about an inch in). Came with a big piece of butter on top. Nothing exciting, but if I were craving it, I wouldn't stop myself from ordering it. We came on a Friday. It was pretty empty, we could choose our seat, but it's always busy on weekends for dinner. Was looking for HK diner food without the wait that comes with some of the more popular places so we decided to pop into this place. Always love it when you are pleasantly surprised. This is old school HK diner meaning there are no fancy drinks or bolo bau sandwiches. When you come in you have to look past the interior as the place is older and looks it's age. Portions are generous. The baked rice is $16.50 and comes with a drink. Can easily feed three. There were 4 of us and we got 3 dishes (not including the toast). Tons of leftovers for lunch the next day. I love that the complementary soup came in a large bowl to share and it wasn't your standard borscht or cream soup. Food was good. 1st of all, this restaurant no longer open on Wednesday. This place is really 3.5 star, but I round it down to a 3 because of the inconvenience of having the washroom outside, in the plaza. Ok the dining area definitely not fancy, in fact it has the feel of mom & pop restaurant in Hong Kong. Unless you're local to the area and know the restaurant, you won't come in if you're walking by. Also as mentioned, you need to walk out into the plaza to use the restroom.... 3 star. The food on the other hand is not bad, on par with other similar restaurants serving the standard HK menu. We come here because this place opens later into the night offering rice dishes, and not just the normal full dinner course menus. Also their hot HK milk tea is pretty good, however the cold ones tastes like they just add ice to the hot tea.... IMO stick with the hot milk tea. 3.5 star. We decided to order form here for the first time on recommendation from a friend. Service: No issues, everything packed nicely and ready to go for takeout. Black Pepper chicken and onions on rice. The chicken was moist and flavorful, lots of rice. 3/5. Current brisket on rice. The brisket was okay tender - not that tender but not overly chewy, good chunks of beef though. The curry had colour but lacked flavor which was odd. 2.5/5. Shrimp and egg on flat rice noodles. Noodles cooked well, shrimp and egg in moderate amounts but good. Sauce seemed a bit on the lighter side in terms of quantity and flavor. 3/5. Fried noodles with green onion and bean sprouts. Sometimes keeping it simple is best and they did this really well. Bean sprouts a bit on the less quantity side but everything cooked well and tasty. 4.5/5 Chow mein - this one came with just beef and Chinese broccoli. Noodles were not as crispy but not bad. Decent amount of beef and Chinese broccoli - 3.5/5. Shanghai noodles - pretty good. Noodles cooked well, decent amount of toppings. 3.5/5. We've been wanting to come back here. The last time we were here was right before the pandemic started. Hubs had been dreaming of this place the minute we started planning on traveling to Canada. The last time we came here, the place was full of customers dining in. But, this time it was practically empty. I think with Covid, everybody opted to stay at home and eat or buy take out. They have a discount if you do take out. We ate in. We ordered hand pulled chicken, Chiu Chow style fish and eggplant with ye noodles. I've been watching too much YouTube bloggers up until we traveled to Canada for ideas on where and what to eat. The hand pulled chicken was one of them. Seems like every blogger was ordering it. It was ok but hubs and daughter didn't care for it. I guess the idea of someone tearing our chicken apart and deboning for us was a turnoff for them. There were still bones and shards in it. But, I liked it. The Chiu Chow style fish was tilapia but it was still delicious. Hubs thinks the fish was fried and braised in the liquid with mushrooms and bean curd sticks. The eggplant ye noodle was pretty good. We don't have this in the east coast of US. The only other place we've seen it was in LA. I was looking forward to trying it and it didn't disappoint. Service was pretty quick and friendly. This was our first dinner after arriving in Canada. It did not disappoint. Will definitely return to try other items on the menu! read more

One of my go to takeout places during the pandemic since it's close by and relatively cheap considering their generous portions. I've had a pretty wide selection of their menu by now while the quality is pretty consistent, nothing really wows. Everything is pretty average, which is both a good and bad thing... You can be sure that whatever you order won't be bad, but it probably won't be great. They have messed up our order several times and given us rice instead of noodles, but we were already home and hungry so we just ate it anyways. Overall, decent place for a quick bite during the pandemic time. They can get pretty busy during the weekend lunch rush so make sure to call ahead to save you some time! read more

I'm appalled at the customer service. I sat for 1 HOUR with my toddler trying to get him to eat. And an hour later the male owner comes up to our table, glances and comments " Oh you're not done yet?". Like what is that supposed to mean? Am I not a paying customer? Just because your other tables filled up doesn't mean that you can come up to me and my child and try to rush us. I was so upset and uncomfortable because they kept looking at our table right after. I quickly finished what I could and asked for the bill. I told the young girl I wanted the check because apparently I'm taking up your table. She proceeds to tell the owners what I said and they look at me. And I say can I have the bill because I'm seem to be taking up your tables. The lady owner comes to bring me the bill. Then she proceeds to let everyone know at the restaurant that I sat for 2 hours. Like seriously. It was an HOUR. How do I know? Because I messaged my husband that we changed restaurants because the other one had a wait and my child was hungry. Like how do you expect me to react? I'm struggling with my toddler whom wants to be carried while I'm trying to eat and would eat off and on. I get it I only ordered 1 dish between the 2 of us so maybe that didn't mean anything to them and they would rather have more paying customers. Clearly they've never had kids before. We changed to this place last minute because we were really looking forward to some deep fried pork intestine. It was cleaned out well and not too fatty, but could have a little bit more crispy. The red sauce that is usually served with this dish was well balanced. We also ordered braised fish with tofu- surprisingly it didn't come in a hot pot as i'm normally used to. It was a little bland but did come with a lot of tofu and fish, and not lifted with veggie at the bottom. The sweet and sour pork was a hit! Very good crisp and balanced between sweet and sour. The pineapple tasted fresh which is sometimes a problem when it's so hot outside. The three dishes came in a combo that was served with soup, rice and dessert for $37.50. The waitress did suggest we only take 2 bowls of rice as we had also ordered a noodle (two people dining). The surprise dish of the night was a tong choy, beef rice noodle ($11.99). It came with a choice of three sauces - we choose malay style (other options were shrimp paste or spicy bean curd). You could really taste the wok flavour! We loved it! I'm used to service by middle aged asian woman being snappy but these ladies were very nice and pleasant. Food came in good portions and was served quickly. Home cooked Chinese food - tastes like how grandpa used to make it. It's not the prettiest cafe, it doesn't have amazing plating, and the owners/servers can give you a sense that they're rude and rushing you to finish - But the thing is, once you go often enough, the ladies here are a hoot (also providing that you speak fluent Cantonese)! This place is under the radar for Chinese Hong Kong style foods like a hidden gem. The place isn't huge, roughly 12 to 15 tables maximum. There are two large circular tables and the rest are rectangular tables which can be pushed together and make a table for six. There are no restrooms in the restaurant but there are restrooms inside the plaza. Due to the size of the restaurant, it is best to bring your own compact high chair. Their largest tables holds eight people. We went on Family day for lunch. It was quite busy, they were at 80% to 100% capacity while we were there. Atmosphere 3/5 Typical Hong Kong style restaurant, you do hear their wait staff calling out orders loudly. But they are friendly unlike other places I have been. They have a large fish tank on the premises, so you can take your toddler to see their fishes. Otherwise not much exciting decor, pretty much standard for this style of restaurant. Service 4/5 We got a table right away. No fuss at all. They were really fast with their food and they brought our stuff promptly like sauces or extra bowl or cutlery when requested. Food 4/5 We ordered four specials that came with a drink. All the dishes tasted great. It also came with a big bowl if daily soup for the table to share. We ordered two rice dishes and two noodle dishes. My picky toddler really enjoyed the Singaporean noodles. Overall the price versus value is great especially for the area. It is $1.50 more than Hai Tang Cafe and Takeout, which is justified by the quality you are getting. I have been here a couple of times and will definitely come back. One of the seats at our table was placed by one of the employee areas, and was often bumped into because the fishtank took up much of the room. I really like their food here! They have really reasonably priced combo sets for two, three, four, or more people. In fact, if you order take-out, you get an automatic 10% off your bill too. When we arrived, there were tons of boxes of Styrofoam boxes containing take-out orders that customers were arriving to pick up. I like how for their dinners, they give you a complimentary pre-meal soup and also complimentary dessert at the end of the meal too. Since it was the two of us, we ordered the two-person meal. We ordered the Shrimps & Cashew Nuts and Fried Oyster Pancake dishes with two bowls of rice. The portion of each dish was fantastic, especially the Oyster Pancake. The tastes were great; definitely my kind of Chinese food. Service was excellent too as I saw the two female staff always waiting by the counter to oversee the restaurant and serve their guests. It's located inside a fairly busy plaza and there are no outside entrances, meaning you must enter through the plaza. They're open all day for typical Chinese-style breakfast (congee, eggs, etc.) as well as simple dishes for lunch and dinner. Our table of two ordered a salted/preserved egg congee and a plate of beef noodles (ho fan), which came to less than $15. The portions were enormous and we could barely finish the 2 items for lunch. The lunch also came with a daily soup and a drink afterwards. We saw some other tables ordering their set lunches which come with a daily soup, a main course and a drink (milk tea, lemon tea, or add $1 for cold drinks). The main courses for those were piled high with meat, vegetables and rice, so they definitely do not skimp at all on the portion sizes. The only thing I would mention is that the decor is fairly outdated, their televisions are just playing channel 36 and it's not a fine dining experience. The prices are extremely competitive and their portion sizes are enormous, so that's what I think most people choose to come here for - a filling and cheap lunch. read more

Everything here is straight to the point, no frills, no 5 star service(not even a 3 star for service but it's expected), no golden utensils and fancy china, no fancy decor....well..except for that beautiful fish tank. LOL. The point is they don't need any of that to be authentic. They are as authentic and genuine as it comes. Just absolutely great food at an affordable price. They are quite adventurous with their food despite their no frills approach. You will find very interesting combinations...ONLY if you can read Chinese (that doesn't include me :( . They have almost a limitless combination of stuff they can cook with off-menu items plastered all their walls and windows. Every weekend seems to be a debate with my family about where to eat to suit my dad's frugality. We tend to always eat at Congee Wong or Richmond court because of the large portions for the low cost. Ultimately, we decided to go to Dicken's cafe but in the same Richlane Mall, we passed by this restaurant. The lunch menu immediately caught our eyes. For $6.25, there is a list of dishes available such as shanghai noodles, curry beef brisket and fried rice with beef and garlic along with the choice of tea, coffee, water or a pop. For the low of cost, the portions were large enough to share and pretty decent! As a bonus, the whole table also got a house special soup (wintermelon and pork soup) to share. It was a nice change of environment (although not the fanciest) and probably the biggest criticism is their loud fan or machinery noise that seems to be running for hours on end. read more

The place is very small but service is super fast and super nice. If you get the combo option during dinner they have complimentary soup and dessert (bonus: the chilli oil here is spicy and has shrimp paste in it making it really tasty). Will definitely be back. I suggest taking somebody who can read Chinese so at least you can read the menu on the wall. No English on the walls. Pros: Prices are very good Veggies!! Cons: Nothing spectacular (you come here for value) When you look a the menu for this place, you'll notice there are many specials to choose from. You have breakfast, lunch and all day specials. Also to note, the menu has the Chinese items listed first, then on the very next page the translated item in English. If I didn't speak or read Chinese, I would find this more convenient. When we first sat down, we were automatically given a smaller set of bowls and cutlery for our little one. Always a nice touch to not have to ask for this ourselves. My GF ordered a pork chop in udon noodle soup while I got the Hai Nan chicken rice. When the food comes out you immediately notice something. You get a lot of veggies with your meals here. Most HK style cafes give you one or two stalks of veggies. This place gives you a full serving basically. My rice was also not just a plain white rice, it was fried with some egg in it too. These little things definitely go a long way. Having said all that, you are coming here if you want value for your dollar. Our bill came to $15 for 2. Amazing! This is not the place you would choose though if you're really craving something special. The food here is good, but not take a date out trying to impress him/her good.
