Looks like this is a very underrated restaurant; the current average (only 3.2 stars) is in my opinion way off base. This restaurant has been around for over a decade. I've tried it many times, pre-pandemic all the way up to today. Even when I first came about 8 years ago it was serving decent food at a reasonable price. And to my pleasant surprise this already good restaurant has evolved into being exceptional. Having not been in a few years (- mind you, I tried a couple of times last year but the lineup was too long and I was too hungry to wait), my latest visit was by far the best one yet. The restaurant has really upped their game; from improved tables, seats, interior decor, to a new electronic waitlist system with some seats for you to sit and wait. To top it all off, the food portions are massive and every dish was delicious and well presented. I can now say this is one of the best Cantonese-style Chinese restaurants Toronto has to offer! Tips: - the presentation and portion size is significantly diminished for take out orders compared to dine in - even though they have an electronic waitlist, do be sure to wait inside or within earshot of the restaurant as they seem to call people by number and don't really have time to be texting or waiting around for people to come back so stick around to secure your table if you can - you won't regret it! read more

We got takeout from here. It's always busy here and parking can be a bit hectic during peak hours. Overall, I actually think this restaurant is slightly better than congee queen. It serves similar type of food and it's been pretty consistent. Food: Fried Turnip cakes - a classic dish of cubed turnip cakes that is fried. I find here, they give decent sized shrimp, egg, chilies and pickled vegetables to accompany the soft yet crispy turnip cake. 5/5. Cantonese chow mein - another classic dish, the noodles were super crispy and dense, the sauce had good flavor with a mix of meats, seafood and veges. 5/5. Super seafood congee bowl - salmon, white fish, shrimp, imitation crab stick all in a savory congee - perfect for a winter day. The flavor was good but I feel like other congee places give more seafood. 4/5. Fried beef rice noodle - yet another classic dish. I did feel like we got lots of noodles, beef which was sliced decently thin and cooked well, onions, bean sprouts and sesame seeds. It's tasted good and properly cooked without being overly oily. 5/5. Bbq duck - we ordered before 6pm and good thing we did as it was the last bbq duck they had. Boy was it a big duck! The place is dirty as well and specially worse during prime time dinner time . The queue to get a table is also so random . They have a machine that you can type your number to reserve a spot . Went to Mr. Congee for lunch today and it was packed. Luckily we had a reservation and our table was ready at the reserved time. Now on to service. Service was perfectly fine and what I expected. Pretty quick considering how busy it was. The food was delicious. We had the sliced beef congee, hot and sour soup, beef and mushroom, Cantonese chow mein, fried spicy squid and fried rice. This is our usual place for peking duck. They're always busy. It's better to call ahead but even if you do, you'll have no idea when you'll be seated (depending on your group size). Sometimes you call, and they have no record of you ever calling. I like that the peking duck here INCLUDES your second serving (lettuce wraps, etc), and comes with plenty of scallions. Came here for the afternoon tea special (下午茶) and i have no complains They specialize in Hong Kong Cafe style which is also called chachanting 茶餐厅 All of their afternoon tea menu comes with drinks (hot HK milktea, hot coffee, hot lemon tea, bubble tea, red bean slush with ice cream and ice pineapple)- which is a bonus since a lot of HK style restaurants only gives out free hot drinks. On top of that, if you add $3, you can redeem a number of dishes. We ordered the deep fried garlic tofu and lamb skewer. Food overall was 5/5 HUGE PORTIONS! We went in through the mall entrance and we were unsure where to order, as there way no one at the entrance of the restaurant. We went in and saw the kitchen to one side we went in a bit more and then we saw a group of ladies in a room doing prep work. One lady came out and my friend spoke to her in Cantonese. After that she told my friend where to order. We ordered: Two choice of BBQ for $8.50 Three choice of BBQ for $9.50 My friend ordered BBQ pork and Deep fried pork (crispy pork skin) I ordered BBQ pork ribs, BBQ pork and Deep fried pork (crispy pork skin). Our dishes came with soup. The food was good. I'd say 2.5-3 stars. We did get a lot of food, very good quantity for the price. But the flavour and service was okay. The male staff cutting the meat was nice. I'm not sure if the restaurant in the pics I took are related to the main restaurant but honestly the women who first assisted us was very pushy. When we were leaving there was a table with some packaged food, I asked my friend what is it and he was explaining some dishes and stated it's to Celebrate The New Year . The women who first assisted us came over and she tried to get us to buy the food. But we said we are just looking. My friend made a reservation for 4 for a Saturday at 6pm. There were still some empty tables. By around 7, the restaurant was full. Reservations is recommended. We ordered roast duck, steamed chicken, turnip cakes, salted fish fried rice, snow pea tips, and they gave us bbq pork for free and red bean soup dessert for free. Food came out very quick. The kitchen is in the front with the meat.  The front door is renovating.  The restaurant seem a middle size (not small or big) restaurant.  There are couple of staff who speak Mandarin.  They are very friendly.  Order couple of rice and noodle dish. Mr congee is great casual atmosphere for a quick dinner. A week ago went to here for dinner and had a fish and a sirloin dish. Both dishes was fantastic and we definitely enjoyed the sirloin being more spicy and the fish dish as more light in flavour so they complemented each other. I used to come here every so often for dinner because it's a good venue to reserve a table to meet with large groups of people and because of their dinner combos. The food is excellent but the service post-pandemic just doesn't match up to my standards anymore. If you order here, you have to get everything right the first time you order or nothing will go right. If you want to get rice later when the dishes arrive first, expect to wait forever. If you're the type to speak up, expect that you may need to ask the waiters multiple times. I gave a total of four reminders for my orders of rice. The same goes for any added orders or requests after the initial order. I requested to add a second order of dough skin for the Peking Duck (1 order only has 10 doughskins) and it came nearly an hour after. I'm not sure if it's because they haven't recovered from the pandemic but they are either very short-staffed or the workers here are not used to serving more than three tables at a time. They're very nice but the food comes too slowly. The wait times for requested items and food is a bit ridiculous. I also needed to remind them about missing dishes near the end of my meal and they made it immediately. Besides the lag in getting what you want, food is pretty good but I don't reccomend getting the Seafood Tofu in hot pot dish. There's intestines at the bottom and I wish someone had told me that beforehand. I'm usually okay with eating intestinal foods but the ones in the pot bottom was too pungent, even for me and I was surprised when I saw it. I assumed it was only tofu and seafood. Overall, I don't think I'd be coming back anytime soon. I think they need some buffer time to adjust to working with many customers instead of catering to just a few tables. Hopefully their service improves over time. PS. If you do end up going, pay cash for the bill. They give you cash coupons for your next meal there. Well, it's been quite some time since my last review of Mr. Congee, so here we go folks. After many visits with my family and a restaurant renovation later, I am quite please to upgrade my rating for this place. Mr. Congee has taken over Scarborough for their commitment to bring the true wok hei (breath of the wok) that is vital in Cantonese cuisine. They have slowly upgraded their menu from the typical congee, noodles and stir fried dishes to now serving wok-fried lobster towers, Peking Duck and much more. The service is what you would expect at many Chinese establishments as the wait staff is constantly on the go to continue flipping tables to get everyone fed and out of their way. It can be quite an adventure to get their attention with their servers running around constantly, but keep in mind, they do have to ensure everyone is accounted for. Despite the average service, the food does make up for it. For lunch, you can't go wrong with their Fried Chili Turnip Patties, Congee and Fried Noodles. Solid options where you can't choose wrong. For dinner, there are tons of delicious items if you're looking to get some of the wok hei experience. Whether it's the classic Sweet and Sour Pork or Stir Fried Beef with Chinese Broccoli or even their stir-fried lobster, it's a nice taste of Hong Kong for that gourmet taste at reasonable prices. Connected to Bridlewood Mall, this restaurant is open late, well after the mall closes. It's an awkward shape and doesn't seem as big. The tables are placed rather close to each other. They offer a range of lower priced dishes (congee, noodles, rice, lo mein) and higher priced dishes (specialty lobster, crab, seafood). Everything was tasty and overall the quality was good. It's on par with Congee Queen / Congee Wong. Probably had some higher priced and quality items. There's a complimentary red bean soup for dessert. read more

The service has really gone downhill in the past year. There is one familiar waitress who is super rude now with black hair in a high bun. We came on a Friday afternoon and even though it was a little busy, there were still a few empty tables so it doesn't excuse her rudeness. We ordered BBQ chicken and she even confirmed this with us before rudely asking what else we want from her. Over an hour later, another waitress comes to the table with lemon chicken. We explain that is not what we ordered and she said that she would check. Then another waitress brought the lemon chicken back and said they had written down the order wrong and had the audacity to ask if we would accept the lemon chicken with an added charge for the price difference. Why on earth would we pay extra for the restaurant's mistake? The staff then looked mad that we didn't accept their offer. Chinese broccoli: because my grandparents have weak teeth, we asked them to cook them longer and they did it! Clam: the clam was nice and fat but there were only 20 edible clams (meaning, some shells were closed so we didn't eat it). It was good and I wish I could have the whole dish to myself lol. Rice in clay pot: we had Chinese sausages and chicken. The rice was cooked nicely. it was soft and flavorful. Chicken and Chinese sausages can never go wrong-just watch out for the small bones in the chicken. Steamed fish: can't eat fresh steamed fish in my hometown so I loved it. Super fresh and you don't need any extra flavors except a bit of soy sauce and green onions. Yums. Complementary dessert: tong sui = "sugar water" tonight was red bean and tapioca. Mr Congee caught my attention while on my way to work, so i decided to stop by on Saturday evening for a try. The restaurant was packed!!!! But i got a seat quickly, and they gave me a couple of menus to go through. I ended up ordering Scallop & Tiger Shrimp congee (approx $6) and a jelly fish cold dish (approx $6). The whole process was quite quick, and there was no language barrier. The congee came and it was a rather large dish to the point where i had to pack the left over for another day. Disecting the congee a little bit more? The scallops and shrimps were minimal. The jelly fish was mixed with shredded cucumber, so it seemed like a lot. Tasty and refreshing though. Food was fresh and tasted good but rough on the edge. It was poorly put together on the conventional scale. The congee was very respectable but the ingredients was far from traditional. We order the Little sampan congee it came with shrimp and roast duck. As a traditional Cantonese dish it was far from acceptable. The Maggie sauce shrimp did not taste as Maggie base. The steamed scallops was extremely fresh but didn't get clean well. A mouth full of sand and broken shell pieces. Service was good and servers were available. The preserved egg congee which was fairly delightful. A platter of Peking duck and roasted pork which wasn't too shabby. And a clay pot of rice with chicken and Chinese sausage...the crisp of the rice at the base was just wow. Dirty, Dank, and Disgusting. This place has obvious management issues and lacks standards for a clean environment. My companion and I were seated at a round table for 6...which was squished next to another table of 4. It was quite the awkward seating arrangement and I felt quite uncomfortable with strangers almost breathing down my back. Unluckily for us, one of those OBNOXIOUS chinese families with about 10+ people in the group that can't seem to settle in their seats for a good 30 minutes before ordering walked in and caused a ruckus for awhile, which was of course encouraged by the staff. This just should not be allowed. Personally, my family gatherings choose isolated seatings to be loud and obnoxious, not the frickin MIDDLE of the restaurant! ):o Not to mention, someone broke a glass container or hot chili oil and management wiped it up with steaming chlorine water. For CNY dinner we were scheduled to pickup our order at 5:30pm. However, nothing was ready until 7pm! (1.5 hour delay!) To top this off, even though we had preordered and paid a week in advance,they had the audacity to not reserve/set aside what we had ordered! This was absolutely ridiculous! The menu alternatives were running out and they refused to refund us for the dishes they could not prepare and instead gave us store credits/ coupons for the equivalent of the dish. Now tell me with this experience why would I ever want to come back ...and if I never want to come back what good is the store credit/voucher to me. Not to mention, I am entitled to my money as they were not able to give me the dishes I ordered. Needless to say, these people didn't give a crap about customer service or how to properly operate a business to keep their customers. Mr. Congee Chinese Cuisine is yet another "Congee" Place opened up in Scarborough area recently. It is located inside Briddlewood Mall, so there are plenty of parking, since the Mall is never busy!! The menu setup is really similar to Congee Queen... colourful and easy to read. There are though stired fried lobster on the menu which they are having a special now for $9.99 if your order is over $20 before tax. Plain Congee ($2.25) and Chili Turnip Patties ($5.50) both were A-OK. I came back to take advantage of their Afternoon Tea Specials priced from $4.45 Mon-Fri between 3 to 5 pm which includes a choice of bubble tea or even red bean ice cream drink! It was awesome both in value and quality!! I would definitely come here more often to take advantages of that! The service is not bad... the waitress was even nice enough to tell the table next to me not too order too much....and can add more if they need more. I think Toronto is going to run out of titles for Congees - there's Congee King and Queen, Congee Wong, Congee Me, Congee Star, and now, we have Mr. Congee. Will there be a Mrs? Why hasn't anyone named their kitchen Emperor Congee? Is that not more befitting for Asian cuisine? What about Duke of Congee? That's befitting for Colonial HK right? I am definitely off track here. Well, it's good to be confused if you are not torontonian and walk into any of these congee shops believing they are all the same - they pretty much are. It's pretty rare to go to a bad one. As long as their Yeung Chow/Yangzhou Fried rice is good, you won't hear too much complaints with me. Although this place, as with most congee title fashion, has decided to expand their cuisine repetoire to include random things like Peking duck, and stir fried clams. You know what, i enjoyed my food there, and so did everyone else in the really crowded restaurant. They have high chairs - good family style restaurant.
