I am really annoyed with miscellaneous fees that this restaurant added onto the bill. I order on line and saw what the cost was and when the charge came through it was a different amount. While is was a pretty small amount I know there are no fees or sales taxes on take out food. They are my second choice for Chinese food but they dropped way down on the list. Ordered delivery from Hong Hing restaurant on Union St. Wilm, de today.Will not order from them again. I ordered Vegetable LoMein, spring rolls and Hot & sour soup. Instructions were to place delivery inside front porch. It was left on the front step. Th vegetable lomein was 95% noodles and 5% vegetables. Maybe 6 pieces of vegetables. Spring rolls were cold. The only item worth the money was the Hot & sour soup. Not worth the time and money. I guess the delivery can't read or was in a hurry. I previously had this place high on my goto's but during my last visit they made a "mistake" and lied rather than corrected it. I usually will spend from $30-50 here, $37 this visit. I ordered my wife's regular chicken and broccoli combo and general tso's for me. The rice was cooked in old grease that had been multi-purposed. This was evident by the horrible taste, smell and odd color. Also, my wifes' chicken was cooked in a sweet sauce rather than the normal dark sauce. It was a completely different color. I went back to ask about replacing the rice( there was just a spoonful out of the rice and chicken for my wife. I hadn't touched my platter because the rice was obviously the same. ). I explained the problem and the lady said they changed grease to become healthier and it would just take a while to get used to the new taste. First of all, you like what you like and time doesn't taste nasty. The smell almost made us sick. Second, the rice was obviously not fried and it was topped with broccoli, which mine never is, seeing I dont like vegetables. But the "excuse" was they changed the oil to be healthier. Then they said they could add sauce to the chicken to make it thicker and miraculously, even though they wouldn't recook it, the extra sauce was the right sauce. Rice is cheap, good customers aren't. My wife and I ordered pickup here and the food was ok. I wouldn't say bad, but not quite good either. One highlight was the orange chicken. I would order that again. Some lowlights, eggroll wraps were not very good. They had a weird texture that was more like a puff pastry. The broccoli was either old or over-cooked. Unpleasant odor from the dishes we got that had broccoli. The lo mein was very average. The pork fried rice was really good as well. I wouldn't be opposed to going back, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to eat here again. read more

Overall 2.5/5, rounded down I ordered my usual general tsos combo with hot and sour soup. It comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll. Hot and sour soup: It's not bad! It has a good sour tang, though the spice level isn't enough. I would recommend very spicy instead of medium spicy (door dash had the option to choose). Fried rice: This was pretty garbage. Soy sauce rice, no "wok hei" at all, questionable whether it was ever fried or just steamed with soy sauce. Either way, it left MUCH to be desired. I threw half of it out. General tsos: Decent, not the best. Sauce sweetness and flavors were close, but lacked depth. Two things that goes for it are 1) dark meat pieces and 2) sauce without any funny flavors. The meat amount wasn't THAT generous either. Value: It's average. $8 for a box. Final remarks: There's a recent review that says they travelled throughout MD and Philly and that this was THE best place to get carry out. It is not. I've tasted better, but would MAYBE probably order again if I was starving for general tsos. Definitely not terrible. But definitely not 4 stars. read more

The wife and I started a search for a good Chinese restaurant in Wilmington DE. This ain't it. Egg drop soup: fail. No flavor at all. Tasted like corn starch and egg. Down the disposal after 1 taste. Spring rolls: fail. Crispy but filling is tasteless goo. Szechuan beef: fail. Zero flavor. Not even sure it was beef in this tasteless mess. Rubbery awful veg. Roast Pork lo mein: edible. Tasteless noodles. The abundant pork saved from a fail. Singapore mei fun: edible. All the same tasteless crap as above but they sprinkled with some curry powder so there was some sort of flavor to it. Overall: gross. Going back/ordering again: hell no. Sticking with Saap Lao for good Thai, PhonSon for good Vietnamese, Kyoto for good sushi/sashimi. Somebody please hook me up with good Chinese takeout. read more

The nastiest Chinese food I've ever had. After a few bites it went straight to the trash. Hot n Spicy szechuan shrimp came slathered in a thick/chunky disgustingly brown sauce. Pork fried rice wasn't fresh and lacked flavor. Shrimp lo mein bland. Taste like pasta with soy sauce. Egg roll very greasy and fried in old grease. Friendly staff, family-owned and operated. Will adjust any dish you want or create something new. All the ingredients are well-trimmed and fresh. A dollar more than the place on Union but worth it for sure. Had Chicken Curry with vegetables tonight and an egg roll. Fresh veggies - carrots, mushrooms, celery, bean sprouts, water chestnuts, snow peas and ZUCCHINI, I kid you not. When I ordered I asked if he could make it a little spicier. He replied by asking if I wanted it "hotter or more curry spice?" It was the curry I was after - good question. The egg roll was fine, but the curry was very good. Hot, spicy, crunchy veggies and chicken cooked all the way through. Lots of interesting specials taped on the window. I'll try the fried fish next time I'm there. Steady business on a Friday night. I've been eating at Hong Hing since I moved to Wilmington back in 2014. It's my go-to for Chinese. The General Tso's is amazing, and the Cheesesteak eggrolls are awesome. I really haven't ever had a bad meal from Hong Hing. The service is always quick, delivery is on point and you just can't go wrong with this one. It's your typical takeout/delivery joint with just a few tables to eat at. I wouldn't suggest trying to eat-in though, the owners kids are usually wandering around and the foot traffic that wanders in is a little unsavory sometimes. For takeout or delivery though, there isn't a better place in Wilmington. read more

Cheese wontons were crispy and good. Kung po chicken combination platter was ok. Chicken wasn't crispy, it was soggy. Rice was ok/good. Heads up, it says pork rice but also has shrimp in it. I was craving some Chinese food and had to go to one of my old favorite spots from my years spent in DE. I ordered General Tso Chicken, Spring rolls, shrimp fried rice and it was still as delicious as I remembered! The portions were large, the food was fresh and they fried the Spring rolls as I picked up my order so they were fresh and extra crispy. The rolls were filled with veggies, shrimp and chicken. The General chicken was nicely deep fried and the sauce was thin but not runny and very sweet but balanced out nicely with the broccoli and Shrimp fried rice. It's not hole in the wall cheap in quality or price but worth every dollar spent. I will be back at least a few times a month now. read more

Just moved to the Wilmington area and was looking for a quick Chinese take-out place. Hong Hing had 5 stars on Grub Hub delivery so we decided to go with it and it was great! Delivery time was ok and no issues with the order. I tried the chicken and broccoli which was good and my girlfriend liked her sweet and sour chicken. Since then I've also tried their cashew chicken and dumplings. The steamed dumplings were a little "doughy" for my taste but maybe they're better fried (they were still pretty solid though). In my opinion, take-out Chinese food should be quick, cheap, delicious...and probably not all that healthy. This place pretty much checks all the boxes! Also just as quick note Grub Hub's minimum was $10 + $2 delivery fee but Yelp's ordering app had a $15 minimum (only realized that after ordering on Yelp the second time). read more

This place is an absolute gem. The food is always fresh, hot and delivery is so fast that I sometimes wonder if they have an employee just dedicated to my orders. Definitely try the Orange Chicken, Singapore Mei Fun(simple and SO delicious) the wings (sort of an Asian/Buffalo fusion and at hit at my football parties) and don't sleep on the half fried chicken!
