The ABC chicken was not my favorite, but it never has been. The gravy was pretty good, much better than some I've had. The wonton soup tasted very good; had about four wontons and a decent amount of bok choy and sprouts. Plus, they have the good crispy, flat rice noodles! Don't skip on the rolls - so yummy! - and the egg rolls. I always add hot mustard for a lil extra something! Overall - some of the best Chinese we've had in a while. WARNING!! RIP OFF & BECAME VERY SICK!! My date and I came in to get an app and split a meal. Crab Rangoon was $12 and there was little to no filling. Cracked it open and showed waitress and she rudely snatched the plate and said they will remake it. When it came back it was equally as tiny with little to no filling again. We spilt an entree, was not told there would be a $3 up change for this, then saw it on the bill. When the overly $21 charged stir fry came out, there was again a very small portion. Entree tasted fine, but the following morning my date and I were VERY SICK from stomach issues that lasted all day. We are convinced since the waitress was so rude when we mentioned our app was so tiny that the staff or cooks did something to are food to make us sick. New to the area and of course I have to find my new favorite Chinese restaurant! Upon seeing this place it's in a plaza decently easy to get into. Place was busy for a Sunday night but they sat us right away. The staff was super nice and friendly and the place was clean. We got wonton soup with sesame and general tso chicken. Both looked similar in color. The wonton soup was to die for! The flavor was absolute amazing and had so many goodies you must get this. The chicken was the best crisps chicken I've ever had crunchy and each piece was cooked perfectly. The downside for me would be the flavor for some reason it wasn't as flavorful as I wished it was. Definitely will be back to try other items. Also the Ragoons wee super yummy too next time I'm going to ask for some sweet chili sauce for the side to dip, their dip was a bit sweet. read more

Detroit transplant here! Only people who grew up loving Chinese food in these parts know what ABC Chicken, Almond Boneless Chicken, or War Shu Gai is. They don't make this in Florida so I told Max that we needed to get it. My friend Julie said this was her favorite spot so we met up with her. The inside is your typical Chinese Restaurant. This is totally good old school Chinese restaurant. Reminds me one of those more expensive dine-in Chinese restaurants in the 80's with nice decor, friendly service and really good food. I think this was possibly the best Chinese food I've ever had. The young lady at the desk told me that it's her aunt's place and that it's all her grandfathers recipes brought over with them when they came to america. I am telling you the best almond boneless chicken I've ever had. The gravy that came with it is actually light chicken gravy not that thick, pasty floury dark stuff. A friend and I went to Hong Kong Cafe last night for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was great! It was truly the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. We both got rolls, egg rolls, soup and I got their Almond Chicken and she got their Beef Lo Mein. We also shared an order of fried won tons with some sweet and sour sauce for dipping. Although my friend wasn't crazy about her Beef Lo Mein, I really liked my Almond Chicken. We both can't wait to go back and try other dishes. The portions are large too. After reading and hearing so many amazing things About this restaurant I decided to give it a try, we ordered a variety of things including pepper steak, sweet and sour chicken, almond boneless chicken, fried rice, and wonton soup. It was just OK, The sweet-and-sour chicken had a very thick breading on it and came already drenched in the sauce which made it not crispy by the time I got it home. Almond boneless chicken had a very thick breading as well and lacked flavor, Also the wonton was very flavorless, the best thing was the pepper steak. Really confusing delivery experience. When I called to place my delivery order, I wasn't given an ETA on the food. About 50 minutes later, I called to see when it'd be here. I made sure to not be a ~ Karen ~ about it because I worked in restaurants for years and everyone's human, just trying to do their best. The response from me calling to see when my food would arrive was very strange. I was told they "know what they're doing, are on top of things, had been here 20 years, and knew I called before asking about the food." I was super confused, because the only call I had made prior to that was to place the order, and I was just inquiring about an ETA since I didn't get one. My guess is they confused me w another customer who had been calling to complain about their delivery being behind. Either way, getting attitude was frustrating because I truly did not mind my food taking an hour, I just wanted to know when to expect it. Since I'm guessing this was a case of mistaken-annoying-customer identity, I wouldn't have knocked them down stars for that. However, the food is just plain bad. The sauces all taste like 95% gelatin and have very little flavor besides the general "salt" and "sugar" tastes. There's not many great Chinese places in Shelby so you can do worse than this place, but you can also definitely do better. read more

Mom lives near Hong Kong Cafe and has had food delivered and that is where she wanted to go! Being from Las Vegas myself I had doubts things would go so well especially since Hong Kong Cafe had just opened from summer vacation two days prior. This is the best old-school Chinese we have had in the Shelby area and we've tried about 5. The staff was pleasant and informative on the phone during the order process. In person, though, it was obvious that they needed more staff. The entrees were fresh and flavorful and they still included a warm yeast dinner roll. The sauces were pretty good, not the best I've had but not the worst. The egg roll was a misstep (tasted old and chewy) but the spring rolls were fresh and tasty. No fortune cookies, but we don't eat those more times than not. We tries Tsos, Almond Chicken, S&S Chicken and Lemon Chicken.
