Was the orange chicken plus the Lady had an attitude because I want to steam vegetables and I didn't know that was the item. I was craving some Chinese Food for lunch and was surprised to find that many locations have either closed or moved. Hong Kong Express wasn't too far from Downtown San Bernardino and it didn't disappoint. I went with the classic Combo A, with 1/2 Fried Rice and 1/2 Chow Mein as well as some Spicy Orange Chicken. The portions were generous and despite them being busy, the server was friendly and kind enough to wish me a Happy New Year during checkout. I'll definitely be back for lunch! read more

The food was just okay. The orange chicken tasted more like orange peel than chicken. Service was mediocre--one staff member asked if I wanted them to take out some food because it was "overflowing," but since they were the ones who overfilled it, I just told them to do whatever they wanted. It was also a bit more expensive than my usual spot. The only reason I tried this place was because my go-to restaurant had no power at the time. I had seen ads about Hong Kong Express overflowing their takeout boxes, but that was misleading. Turns out, they were overflowing it for the camera from a big YouTuber/Instagramer/TikToker--not at this particular place. Only one of my side entrees had a slight overflow, and for some reason, they struggled to close the lid when they could have just pressed it down. Overall, it was worth trying, but I won't be back. It took us a moment to find this place because we were looking for the sign Hong Kong Express, the outdoor sign actually is "Chinese Food" and it's round logo. HK Express is your typical Chinese take-out joint. Food is served in styrofoam containers with plastic utensils, no plates or bowls. Food tastes okay. Price is reasonable. Serving size is generous. My husband went there and the food we wanted was written down on a list. He read it to the nice lady, but something went very wrong somewhere. The Kung Pao chicken I ordered was NOT Kung Pao chicken! It was chicken swimming in a thick dark brown gravy, it had sliced water chestnuts, some red peppers. No spice at all. It tasted sour! BBQ Pork was like jerky. It was almost black. It may have been spoiled. The orange chicken was so over cooked that it was inedible. Here again, the chicken was like jerky. I was so disappointed. This place WIPES THE FLOOR with most of the Chinese food places within a 30-mile radius, trust me. Little tiny place tucked near a Cardenas, up the street from a busy community college - but oh MAN the Chinese food they serve here... is a little bit pricey, but more than makes up for it with the quality. HK Express serves up your usual Chinese lineup, as well as some Hawaiian (I haven't tried the Hawaiian food here, honestly I'd just stick with the Chinese food. It's all laid out there for you to see and you won't have to wait if you order the Chinese food.) BBQ Pork tastes gritty, rustic, authentic, almost like the pig was killed out in the back, fifteen minutes before they prepared the batch. I don't know what in the HECK they put in the boba smoothies but no matter what flavor I get, it never fails me (I'm biased toward Taro, Strawberry, Banana, and Lychee.) Chow Mein is oh-so good. The noodles aren't too thick and they are very generous with the portions (you're paying a bit more than other Chinese food places for the quality; but the quantity is a perfect bonus.)
