A mixed bag. I went for lunch special the in-house special included soup or egg roll I asked for hot and sour soup but was given won ton. Was told lunch special was for wonton - did not include hot and sour. I also asked for an egg roll -extra. Must admit, I liked both. The entire, however, was skimpy with very little pork. When the bill came, they had charged me for extra soup (& 3.95), not extra soup ($ 2.95). Food was, generally good, but I did not like not being told about the hot and sour not being included and did not like being charged for extra soup when I ordered the additional egg roll Ambiance is typical American-Chinese - so-so. My go-to place when I'm back in Pa. (from Indy). Was recently in town to visit family and I swear I got food from here 5x in 3 weeks. At the time (Feb 2022) , they are doing take out & still doing covid precautions. Food is served quickly and hot, and they have never gotten an order wrong. My shrimp with lobster sauce had tons of large shrimp but was a little more like egg drop soup than a "sauce" but it was tasty. Everything else we get from here is very good, and prices are reasonable. The food at Hong Kong restaurant is delicious and the service is top notch. I have ordered food there many times and I'm always very favorably impressed. There are a few small tables and chairs inside. You can eat inside if you want, but this restaurant is set up primarily for takeout and delivery. read more

I thought this American Chinese takeout place served decent food. I got the Sesame Chicken and Egg Roll. The egg roll was excellent. It was wrapped in a crispy grease soaked roll with a juicy, porky MSG laden center with just enough cabbage to give the roll a crisp and fibrous moutfeel. The Sesame Chicken was massive in portion. However, I found the chicken chunks to contain more deep fried dough than chicken. That was a major disappointment. The rice was of good execution and the sauce was characteristically sweet and tangy like a dessert. Overall I felt the food was quite sloppily prepared and probably more appropriate for a drunken 2am hangover cure than a balanced dinner. read more

This used to be one of our favorite spots for delivery. They closed for a while early on when COVID19 first started. We found out a few days ago that they had re-opened. We were very happy to hear that and we decided to do an order with them this evening. They did not pay attention to the order notes on the Beyond app that they use. That was number one. Number two was although the delivery person was very personable and professional they were not wearing a mask. If we had not left money for them on the front porch we would've come in very close contact with someone not wearing a mask during COVID-19. This is why I am taking stars away from them. Pretty tasty food, and holy crap the lunch specials are a steal at $6 for a giant portion. I've tried a couple different options and none were disappointing. I lived in the San Francisco area for a few years and love Chinese food. I have been going to Hong Kong Rest for 4 years and never had a bad experience. My favorite meal is chicken with mixed vegetables and brown sauce. Too die for. Love this place. read more

If it wasn't a 15 minute drive for me (30 round trip), I'd order here all the time. Honestly, they have the best Chinese food in the area. My relatives from Long Island are even impressed and they have access to some of the best take out. It's not a sit-down place (they have a couple of small booths). They do deliver, just not all the way out to where I live. Some of my favorite items from their menu are: Boneless spareribs, sesame chicken, lo mein, and chicken and broccoli. So far, this is the best Chinese food I've had in the area, outside of Philadelphia. I'm from Long Island (where the best Chinese food in the United States is from!), and this food is almost identical to the food that you would find there. I ordered take out on a Wednesday evening, and it was fresh, hot, and ready in less than 10 minutes. The staff was courteous, and the establishment appeared clean. This is a typical take out establishment -- there are a few small, clean tables if you were to sit and eat a quick meal, but it it not meant to be a dine-in restaurant. I am VERY particular about my Chinese food, and so I ordered a few (granted, mainstream) items to get a sense of how the food would be, as this was my first time ordering. The portions are very generous, and the prices are very reasonable. The wonton soup had a flavorful broth, and the wontons were substantial and with a thick dough. The pork egg rolls were NOT greasy, and actually contained pork (always a plus), and were tasty! The boneless spare ribs were tender, and were thickly cut. The vegetable lo mein was full of vegetables (more than I would have expected, actually), and was very nicely seasoned. The pork fried rice was the only I've had in the area that had actual flavor, and the pieces of pork included were substantial. The chicken and broccoli was cooked in a brown sauce, and was light and delicious. Due to a broken leg, I was stuck trying to find a Chinese place that delivered, and it may be the only good thing that came out of my house-ridden predicament. Hong Kong delivered to me twice, the first time an order of a pu pu platter and shrimp with lobster sauce combo. The second order included egg rolls, fried dumplings, crab rangoons, shrimp lo mein, pepper steak combo, and sesame chicken combo (others wanted in after tasting it the first time). To be fair, when I order chinese I'm not looking for gourmet cooking. I want a bit of grease, a lot of savory/salty flavors. However I don't want to be overwhelmed. The pu pu platter was as decribed on the menu (two of - chicken wings, spare ribs, wontons, dumplings, bbq beef, bbq chicken, fried shrimp, shrimp toast). The shrimp were more like shrimp encased in triangular pillows of dough, but they were tasty pillows. The shrimp toast could have used a few minutes on some paper towels to soak up some grease but the savory flavor of the shrimp was great. I don't typically order shrimp toast, so it was a treat. My favorite of the pu pu platter was the bbq beef. I could have eaten a few of these. They had a really nice smokey sweet flavor and the beef was really tender. The shrimp with lobster sauce was outstanding. I'm used to a very runny sauce with not much flavor. Hong Kong's sauce had lots of shrimp (especially for a combo) and little bits of egg could be seen to thicken it up. The second round stand outs were the lo mein and sesame chicken. The lo mein was in a really nice brown sauce and had a lot of shrimp and veggies. The chicken was crispy and had great flavor. I hate it when sesame chicken is really soggy and it tastes like its a massive ball of coating. This actually was chunks of chicken with generous sprinkles of sesame seeds. My only negative feedback was that I needed to pay by credit card and I had to give them all of my info over the phone. It would have been nice if they offered a way to pay at the door, like swiping on an Iphone or something. read more

The name of the restaurant made me believe that they serve authentic Hong Kong cuisine. Unfortunately, that is not true. This is just a regular Chinese takeout that serves Americanized Chinese food. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food in this area, I would suggest Hans in Malvern, they serve authentic Szechwan Hunan food. read more

Crapy restaurant I've ordered the shrimp chili combo cost @ $9 with canned drink. The shrimp was like smallest shrimp you can think of and I have to look for the shrimp so basically I've order a bowl of rice and nasty onions. Lesson learned don't go to half ass Chines restaurant. I definitely agree with the others that say this is the best Chinese takeout around. I have been ordering from here for well over 10 years. They have the BEST egg rolls I've had at any Chinese restaurant anywhere. I don't even order egg rolls from other places anymore because they just don't compare. Their Singapore Mei Fun is also a favorite of mine but just a warning: it is spicy! The boneless BBQ ribs are delicious as well. They're addicting for sure, and I end up eating the leftovers cold as a midnight snack. Food is ready quickly, usually within 15 minutes. I recommend Hong Kong to everyone! read more

This is long over due and I have never written any type of review before, but I felt compelled to do so given the incredible food, pricing and customer service we received from Hong Kong Restaurant in West Chester. In May 2016, my daughter graduated from high school and we were hosting a small gathering at our home for about 35-40 people. She is a picky vegetarian eater, but no one else was - Chinese Food is her favorite. Since Hong Kong was our go-to restaurant, I took a chance and inquired if they would cater and to my surprise they did (it is not advertised). Four large trays of General Tse Chicken, Beef with Mushrooms, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Pepper Steak with Onions, two large trays of white rice, one large tray of Vegetable Fried Rice, 30 egg rolls and free complimentary "Chinese donuts" and fortune cookies! It was amazing and tasty! Everyone at the party loved the idea and raved about the food! The cost was a 5th of what I paid when my son graduated the year prior and we held the event at a local restaurant in downtown West Chester. Snap forward 7 months later, December 2016, and we were hosting the family for Christmas Eve - our family tradition is Chinese food - so I RAN to Hong Hong and had another event catered. The staff were again fabulous and the food fantastic! My family now wants us to host Christmas Eve every December and of course said we need to maintain our dinner tradition. Hong Kong is our #1 choice for Chinese food in the area and I have tried many restaurants. SIMPLY the BEST in the area! Thank you!!!! read more
