This restaurant used to be good before their fire remodel. Now for lunch you get a extremely small portion and extreme amount of rice. No more egg roll with lunch and their 3 dollar egg rolls aren't great, the hot and sour soup isn't great. My eyes swelled after eating it the next day. I called to tell them about how little food I received. They offered me a free lunch however after the swelling of the eyes I can't go back. I'm really disappointed because the old owners were great but the new people fall really short. read more

Dined in for lunch. Absolutely horrible experience. Took forever to take order Forever for food to come out. (And they were not that busy). Then got an order wrong and had to wait even more. And then no apology. Never going back. Did note that another group of diners of majority ethnicity and greater maturity were taken care of with great solicitousness. In fact, other people who arrived later were served before us. Did not know what to make of how we were treated. Guess they don't want our business ?! Many Asian restaurants seem to go through the cycle of new-to-old-to-disappointing. A new one opens, hires a great chef with excellent ingredients and gradually declines over time into something over-priced and underwhelming. We were quite disappointed with our visits to Oriental Pearl before their fire and reconstruction. We returned today after a long time away and were quite impressed. The decor was much nicer and we hoped the food would be too. The menu has been redone as mich as the interior and we decided to select from the lunch menu. Soup, rice and an entree for $11.50 per person. The food was very tasty. While the Hot and Sour soup was mostly broth the flavor was excellent. The fried rice was also very good as was the Hunan Beef. Lunch was a very good value and I would recommend this to anyone now in hopes it won't follow the usual cycle of decline. read more

It was my first time ordering from Oriental Pearl. We ordered takeout and our order was ready within 20 minutes. The food was good. I really enjoyed the beef chow fun noodles and I very much appreciated that they put the walnut cream sauce for the shrimp on the side so it didn't get all slimy in the to-go container. The sushi was delicious, both the Futo Maki and the TNT rolls I would definitely get again. Though 2 pieces of the Futo Maki looked like they were just kind of throw in and they were barely holding themselves together. The sauteed String Bean w/Shrimp was good, but it only comes with 4 pieces of shrimp. It was fairly cheap, so we honestly wouldn't mind paying a few dollars more but just add more shrimp to it. The only major complaint I have is that the person working at the front counter needs to check their attitude. I cut them some slack because they seemed really busy, but I almost dropped them to three stars just for the interaction. While I was waiting for my food another customer that got his order and was on his way out stopped to complain to me about their attitude. read more

Hands down my favorite place to get shrimp fried rice. I also love that they are BYOB and don't charge a corking fee.

When the food is good...it is very, very good. Sometimes, it is not as good. By that I mean it is too oily...way too oily! To wit, I'm trying to eat an egg roll that I needed to roll and press through several pieces of paper towels and still oily. I must add that it did taste a bit fishy - Shrimpfish. Our favorite order is Eggplant Chicken w/garlic sauce and while coping with the oily egg roll, I see way too much oil on the entrée. OP has the best Chinese food in our area. Overall, my first experience at Oriental Pearl was pretty good. First, the complimentary tea. Yay! It's very infrequent that restaurants give out free tea anymore, so this was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the edamame and General Tso's chicken. I asked that the Tso's be extra spicy. Unfortunately it was too sweet even with the extra "spice" for my liking. It wasn't delicious but it was still tasty. The broccoli was great, it was fresh and not mushy. The edamame was pretty standard. Good portion, fairly priced at $4. Overall it was a solid dinner. Enough leftovers will make for another meal tomorrow. I'd like to try more of the menu as there is such an array of items! Thai, Chinese, Japanese, I shall return. read more

Oriental Pearl has a large selection of sushi and Chinese options. The ambience is very casual and I've never had to wait for a table. Staff is very friendly and attentive. We normally order take out due to the convenient and easy location of the restaurant. We've never had an issue with our orders and food is consistent and fresh. We passed by this restaurant while going to pick up a car at the Hertz Rental facility in the same shopping center. Reviews on Yelp were positive so last night we placed a take out order to give it a try. The menu is impressive : Chinese, Thai, Sushi and Vietnamese food - all available. The first thing that stood out was the wait time on the order - 20-25 minutes. I can not remember EVER ordering Chinese food that wasn't ready in 15 minutes. I thought this must either be the busiest local restaurant of its kind or they spend extra time getting everything ready. Sure enough, there were take out bags everywhere when I arrived. The restaurant is clean and much larger than it appears from the outside. A sushi counter is located in the front. I recognized the owner who appears on a video on their website home page holding down the front of the house. I love seeing an owner who is there making it happen in prime time. The won ton soup was tasty - nice broth with delicate noodles that fell apart when eating as opposed to those other versions that use noodles that are hard and industrial strength. The egg rolls were so-so. House made hot mustard was excellent. Pork fried rice was decent. My lady's Kung Pao chicken was good with cashews instead of peanuts. Easily the highlight was the all white meat with no upcharge General Tsos chicken. Huge pieces of chicken, lightly fried, in a delicious sauce. Crispy, sweet, tender and spicy - exactly as promised. This is a good restaurant. Not the best but decent versions of the things we like, especially the rocking General Tsos chicken. We will be back. read more

Having lived in South Jersey for 8 years, I was a frequent diner to the original Oriental Pearl restaurant in Haddonfield, NJ. On a recent trip back there, I came to learn they opened a new restaurant in West Chester, not far from me. To celebrate Chinese New Year today, I stopped by. To my delight, the owner's son was there. So yes, they business has stayed in the family, and so have the recipes. Oriental Pearl has Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese fair. Most places that try to do this don't balance out. But Oriental Pearl does. And they use incredibly fresh ingredients, no oil or MSG, and the consistency is always there. For a truly diverse menu, fresh ingredients, hospitality, I have to give a good ole sentimental spot in a new location 5 stars. read more

Entrees were red curry chicken which was very delicious and great flavors of south east Asia, Pork in garlic sauce, the pork was tender flavorful and sauce was tantalizing spicy garlic sauce which was excellent, then the orange beef was very tender & tasty with sweet & spicy orange sauce. What we really love is that you also have a choice of rice, from white, brown, or fried, the fried rice is amazing and the edamame in the fried rice is perfect. The food here is remarkable! Was here recently with a party of seven and was really looking forward to it based on the number of good reviews, but ultimately left somewhat disappointed. We had reservations, so we were quickly seated once we all arrived. It took another 25 minutes before someone came over to take our order! The place was busy, but by no means packed. We were never offered anything else to drink besides water and hot tea, which came out automatically. This is by the way a BYOB, but some of us wanted ice tea or sodas. Not a biggie, but still found it odd that they didn't ask. While the food was good, it didn't blow me away and i wouldn't go out of my way to come here. For an appetizer, I had the egg roll and the crabmeat cheese wonton. Both were very good, especially the wonton's which were stuffed pretty good. I had a Philly roll and then shared the Moo Shu Pork with my wife. The sushi was fresh and while the Moo Shu Pork was good, we prefer a slightly thinner pancake to wrap the Moo Shu Pork in. I tried my friend's General Tso Chicken but didn't really care for it. I thought the chicken had an odd texture to it. For dessert, I went with the fried ice cream and my wife had the tempura bananas. Again, both were good, but nothing to shout home about. My wife preferred to eat her dessert with some of my ice cream. Before heading out for the long drive home, I hit the mens room and found it to be a little dirty and was frustrated that there was no soap to wash my hands with. They really need to check on the bathrooms throughout the night and make sure they are cleaned and stocked. Overall, service was very friendly...I just wished it had been a bit quicker. It's not that the food was bad, but it didn't blow me away. If I lived closer, I would likely go back, but since this is a bit of a hike for us, we likely won't be. read more

We have been going here for the past year. It is a great little place. I love a place that has constancy, there is nothing worse than going somewhere the first 2-3 times and its great, than after that its down hill. This place is definitely not like that. We have been here at least 30 times and have always gotten great service and great food. Staff is incredibly friendly. We love all of their traditional dishes like the general tso's, fried rice, lo mien. But another thing I love about this place is you can get chinese, japanese, thai, and vietnamese. I have had numerous sushi rolls from here and it is delicious and fresh. I would say its as good as high end restaurants, not to mention lower prices. Most of your regular rolls (tuna, salmon, spicy tuna, spicy salmon) run around $6-$7 and they are delicious. If you like the slight spicy flavor, but dont like spicy food their spicy salmon roll is TERRIFIC. My partner hates spicy, where I love it so this allows us to share a roll, because it has great flavor, and I just ask for a side of the spicy sauce. Another great roll which you dont see everywhere is their spicy white tuna roll. It has a light spicy tangy sauce and is delicious. They make a lot of different special rolls which are large. I myself could probably eat 1, 2 at absolute most they are really big and delicious. Everything is so fresh which makes it even better. Dishes we have had and our thoughts: Pad Thai- very tasty, this is the first time i have had it so i cant compare it or tell you if its really "authentic" because I have no idea. but it was delicious. Basil Sauce(chicken, beef, or shrimp choice)- I have had only the chicken and it is great. There is nothing worse than dry chicken, this chicken is moist with a wonderful thai basil sauce, slightly spicy (they will adjust it how you want it) with fresh vegetables that are still slightly crisp. absolutely wonderful crispy noodle dish includes chicken, beef and shrimp- it is lo mien noodles deep fried until crispy with the proteins mixed with veggies and a light brown sauce. very good also. Fried Rice- one of my favorite things when getting chinese, their fried rice is not your typical, but very tasty. they fry it with edamame beans, onions and it is one of my favorite dishes. Had edamame and shrimp fried rice today--edamame was perfectly steamed and just the right amount of salty, shrimp fried rice was overflowing with shrimp and I only ordered a pint.
