Steel wool Lo Mein Noodle Lunch

Normally Hong Kong ruby is my go to Chinese place but tonight my girlfriend found steel wool in her lo main, and had she not felt something weird in my mouth probably would've swallowed it... probably never going to eat in/ order out again And needless to say dinner tonight was a waste of $ because we're not gonna eat it now

We were already on our way to Sakana for lunch when we realized it was Monday - keep forgetting that most Asian restaurants close on Mondays in this area. We called Himalayan Fusion next door and confirmed it's closed as well. When we got to the strip mall, we were glad to find Hong Kong Ruby open - even on a Christmas Eve Monday. +1 on dedication! We have never been here before and today's visit wasn't by choice. We looked at the menu and were disappointed that there's not one authentic dish. Aside from Pho, which I found it odd and out of place, the menu offers the typical American Chinese cuisine from the 1980's. But there's little recourse. We ordered just 2 dishes to go: Beef Chow Fun $10.95 and House Special Fried Rice $10.25. The manager was friendly and courteous during the ordering process. The prices and quantities definitely seemed fair but the food we had was awful. The chow fun was soggy and greasy, with the noodles all clumped together. The fried rice was salty and downright stodgy. We struggled to finish either dish. These were worse than average Chinese food found in food courts. I'd like to assume that their regular chef took a day off on this day before Xmas, but we most likely won't give it another try.

    General Tso's Chicken

Just walked in and order General Tso for take out. Service was friendly and prompt. Got home and plated it up. Got a few bites in and found some kind of metal shaving in my food, possibly steel wool. I can't tell you if ingested any smaller parts or not. Don't think I will be returning.

I have been consistently impressed by my orders from Hong Kong Ruby. I truly believe the quality has increased tremendously over the years, and the food was good before. My order is always correct, delicious, and the staff is awesome. If you're at home right now thinking "what should I order for dinner" you can't go wrong with Hong Kong Ruby! Personal favorite is Hunan Shrimp. It's spicy and bursting with flavor. As you can see the shrimp are massive. Perfection!

The taste and quality has gone down hill. Wouldn't recommend. I think there may be new ownership, so that could explain the change.

This is the best Chinese in the lower Paxton area! Great service, fresh food and veggies. Their brown sauce is so good!

This is next door to the goodwill in the plaza. I ordered online and wasn't able to pay in advance. I had no idea they charged an extra 4% for cards until I got there to pick up the food (not mentioned online anywhere), PLUS an extra service fee charged and I had already tipped 10% online. There's a sign on the register about a free two liter with $30 purchase, but I was ignored when I asked about it. My food was put on a table before I paid for it and I was ignored when I tried to double check that it was my order. It was chaotic inside with so many people in a tiny space. This cost me more than delivery with delivery fee and a tip from a really good Chinese place that is ~10 miles from us each way, but it wasn't as convenient for me to pick up on my way home from work which is why we tried somewhere closer to home. Big mistake. The crab rangoons are okay in terms of the filling, but ours were burnt and very crunchy. The sweet and sour sauce was okay. I was sad they didn't have honey chicken, so I went with the bourbon chicken since that was one of my favorite foods in our previous town. 0/10 - do NOT order. I have no idea what this was, but the sauce was too thick and congealed and the chicken tasted weird. I tried to check their google pics to make sure it looked similar to the kind I ordered before, and it did, but that's not what I received. The lo mein isn't terrible, but I definitely recommend getting it without veggies. I wasn't a fan. My fiancé liked his shrimp lo mein without veggies. The worst thing was the shrimp fried rice. It smelled so fishy and rancid as soon as I opened the container... terrible. The only saving grace and thing I'd ever go back for are the boneless spare ribs. Those were incredible and the only reason for two stars instead of one.

Crispy outside and perfectly seasoned tofu. For our main dishes we had the chicken general tao & chicken in garlic sauce. The general tao was perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The chicken was crispy and so good! The chicken in garlic sauce was okay, but probably wouldn't order again because it wasn't spicy and I've had better other places. I had the black sugar boba tea (oat milk) which is by far the best boba I've ever had!! It was so flavorful and creamy. I would definitely come back for just the boba and maybe the crispy tofu!
