Staff: friendly, prompt and helpful The ambiance is half formal and half booths. The places is very clean. We got shrimp dumplings, which was delicious. Very light and refreshing. My hubby got the coconut shrimp dinner special which came with rice and steamed broccoli --- absolutely delicious!!!! Get this! It had a coconut creamy bottom. This so good. Deceptive Business Practice - When I went to pick up my order, the person at the register rang up the order, touched the cc device, and turned it around for me to pay. I swiped my cc, and got a receipt. When I got home, I started thinking that I didn't add a tip and thought it was odd. I looked up my cc account and saw that the restaurant had added a $13 tip without my knowledge. If they did it to me, they probably do it to a lot of others. Be careful! I called the restaurant and told them what their person had dome, and that I would be disputing the charge. I asked for a Manager but didn't get one so I needed the call. The person on the other end of the phone spoke very good English and understood what I was saying so it was not a translation issue. read more

We stopped at this strip mall to go to Five Guys down the row and they were closed. We could smell Chinese food on the air and decided to have dinner at Hong Kong City. As we walked past the glass windows I spotted a table with the whole pupu platter thing with the first at the top and I was excited. What a charming place! The inside is small, but there are enough tables that they have made socially distant to accommodate a good number of people. We were seated right away and ordered some crab rangoon and I wanted a clear soup. The crab rangoon was delicious, served with NEON RED sweet and sour sauce. My clear soup had surimi in it, which I had never experienced before, along with razor thin mushrooms and onions. It was delicious. My son who has a very limited, basic palate ordered Sesame Shrimp and devoured it. My other son tried the Pad Thai, and while he enjoyed it, my husband, the Thai food aficionado, declared it a little bland. I had Moo Shu Pork, one of my absolute favorite dishes from Chinese takeout and this was the best version I've had of it in years. I don't know if it's because we ate in house or for some other reason but it was flavorful. The cabbage was crisp. The pork was tender and everything was not sitting in a pool of wet sauce. I want to go back for more. The service was prompt and friendly, managing a busy dining room and a whole bunch of takeout orders at the same time. Definitely worth a return trip. read more

We ordered pad Thai , it looked like mush & tasted like mush . The general so's was so bad ( very soggy) not crispy at all ( as they should be . Egg rolls (pork) had like 2 very small pieces of pork. Ok the place is clean and it is set up for social distancing and masks are required till seated and staff does where masks! All that being said it wasn't as good as expected! I had the Boneless Duck! Nicely cut thin strips of duck breast with crispy skin plated with a brown sauce and vegetables! Unfortunately they really undercooked the vegetables because even though the celery was fresh and they had larger thin cut pieces they were cool inside like they were refrigerated and not left steam enough! My wife had the Orange Chicken which had plenty of sauce and tiny pieces of chicken breaded lightly but she said she had better elsewhere also! Reading some of the other reviews I am thinking this is a hit or miss! We just missed! My husband and I frequent Hong Kong City restaurant at least once a month. It's our favorite Chinese food restaurant! After today's visit, I felt compelled to write a review about their service. We were greeted and seated promptly after walking through the door. Shortly after being seated in the smaller section, a small group of young adults (maybe 19-21 year olds) located diagonally from our table could be heard talking amongst themselves. The elderly woman, who serves at the restaurant, approached the group to see if they were ready to order. They told her no, and as she walked away, the group could be heard making fun of the way she spoke and walked. The server seemed to be in pain due to a wobble. My husband and I were appalled, but chose to ignore them and enjoy our food. Towards the end of our time in the restaurant, I was talking about work related (teaching) things. The same group must've been listening in on our conversation, because as we were preparing to leave, they began belittling teachers loud enough for the entire section to hear. My husband gave me a look, and it took everything in me to not go off on them. Moral of the story, I give all of the servers major props for continuing to serve this disrespectful group of children (clearly their frontal lobes have not fully developed yet). Hong Kong City restaurant in Harrisburg has the best Chinese food and service all-around. I cannot recommend them enough! read more

This was a request to go here from my '7' year old! Don't let the internals scare you away, this place makes some BANGIN' food. We have been here several times since and never left hungry or unsatisfied. We love their tofu Gen. Tso's which can be prepared at various 'spicy' levels. Take out is always good here too. Disgusted by this place lately. Found a legit lint ball inside of my crab Rangoon tonight.

Our take out food was pretty standard to the other Chinese restaurant takeouts we have had. I wasn't too "crazy" about the crazy roll sushi that we ordered. The crab topping had a weird texture. Probably would not get that again. The sweet and sour chicken was good. What stood out was that the red sauce had pineapples in it. That was pretty new for us and it added some flavor to the sauce. The lomein noodles were fat and thick, which we really didn't care for. The General Tso's chicken was pretty standard. It wasn't very spicy like I'm used to but it was still eat-able. We will come here again for some take out but we probably will stay away from the sushi menu. read more

10/22/08 6:30pm I was very impressed during my visit to Hong Kong City. I found myself on the East Shore with a Chinese craving and so I checked it out. I am glad that, instead of switching to a buffet format, this restaurant stuck with a sit-down format and instead expanded their menu to include foods from all over Asia. I thought it was a little tacky to have lovely water sculptures in the foyer with a hastily handwritten sign saying not to touch them. Ever hear of Plexiglas, people? I was also taken aback by the 1970s multicolored vinyl triangles (remember, the kind that used to hang from the awnings at gas stations?) hanging from the ceiling. Hideous. Vinyl tablecloths underneath glass tops? Wow, that's just a little bit of overkill in my book. I don't mind the glass toppers when they're using nice linens, but with tacky, ugly vinyl tablecloths? The service was a little lukewarm. The server did not make eye contact with me, but was outstandingly efficient and had everything timed perfectly. She never let my water glass go empty. I prefer to be asked if I would like something, rather than, "You want...?" , but that's just me. My Hunan Pork was out of this world, even though I ordered it extra spicy and it came out pretty bland, in my opinion. I checked the ticket and confirmed that she wrote down my order, so I'll be sure to order very spicy next time, to assure seared sinuses. I know this doesn't read like a 4-star review, but I do recommend Hong Kong City for a nice, sit-down meal. read more

Most affordable sushi in town and it's good! I didn't give the place 5 stars only because I'm not as big of fan of the Chinese food options. Beef and broccoli, general Tso's, and shrimp with lobster sauce are our go-to options, and they don't do any of those particularly well. Meh, I've experienced better. This review is for Hong Kong City (formerly known as Hong Kong Ruby). When I first went here a couple years ago, the food was really good (4 stars worthy) but after a bunch of less than stellar meals here it goes down to 2 stars. So why the 2 stars you ask? First off is the consistency or lack thereof. Everytime I go there it seems like there is a different cook or they are using different ingredients for the same meal. So one time a dish will be just mildly spicy, the next time the same dish will be sweet and spicy, and the time after that the same dish will be just sweet. And the vegetables I get with the meal are always different. Second is the price. Way too expensive. Yesterday I dined in and me and my friends got: 1 order of general tso's chicken with white rice, 1 order of mu shu beef (with 4 pancakes), and a small order of garlic shrimp. The total: $30.20 plus tip. $30? really? No drinks and two and half meals for $30. For $30 I could have went to an actual restaurant and not a Chinese takeout place. What was also troubling was the food itself. First off, the garlic shrimp was a plate of random vegetables and two shrimp. Two shrimp? $6 for 2 shrimp. It was really disappointing. Second, the food was room temperature like it had been sitting out for a while. What's the problem here-- is your kitchen broke? And normally the general tso's here is really good but not the last couple of times. It did not taste fresh at all. The lunch specials, which are cheap, usually use food that tastes a day old (like they made it yesterday and now serving it today) and although not the tastiest and freshest it was a good value. But now when your dinner menu tastes like you cooked it yesterday and is not hot, there are serious issues here. I also noticed today that the lunch specials of General Tso's and Sesame chicken were the exact same thing, only difference was they sprinkled on sesame seeds. The pork fried rice was just Spanish yellow rice. haha. Take a look at the pictures I posted. In terms of their sushi, not bad not great either. There are much better places for the sushi too which are very close by. I will not be dining here again and I would not recommend this place. read more

Every time I come I order extra rice and I'm told it's on the bag but it's never there when I get home. Tonight, 04/29, I ordered chicken lomein with no vegetables. When I had gotten time to get around to eating it it was full of vegetables. I didn't not have much money lately due to surgery but I thought I'd treat myself. Like $12 in the trash. You can only mess up so many time b4 I don't come to your establishment just to have my order screwed up again. Everyone b4 you leave check your order. They lost a good paying costumer. This is a Pan Asian restaurant, they have a large menu: sushi, sashimi, bento boxes for lunch, Thai, some unique House Specialties, and Chinese. Delivery, Eat In, or Take out. I called for delivery, Friday evening dinner rush, & the person struggled taking my order. Not due to a language barrier, she didn't seem to know the menu, even with me offering numbers & sections. I was concerned about receiving the correct items, but they got it all right! Delivery took an hour & a half, & I only live 2 miles from the restaurant. I'd recommend takeout or planning ahead. We ordered the shrimp egg roll, Shrimp Pad Thai, Beef & Scallops, Teriyaki Chicken on a stick, steamed pork dumplings, & crab rangoon. Egg roll was standard, dumplings were not typical Chinese dough, skimpy filling, & I wouldn't order again. The crab rangoon, just skip here all together. Next to no filling, & just plain cream cheese - no crab or veggies or seasoning. Pad Thai was excellent & it is a little spicy! Definitely recommend that! Everything else was good, not fantastic. *Update* 2nd experience was 5 stars, food, service were excellent! Got the pad Thai again, and tried the General Tso's combination with pork fried rice, egg roll, & a crab rangoon, also the fried wontons. This is probably my favorite sushi and Chinese food. I don't ever do take out, my BF and I always stay and dine. We BYOB they provide a corkscrew and we pretty much go bonkers on cooked sushi. We've also have had the Chinese. I don't eat Thai so I can't say much there. We ordered at least 6 rolls the other night and every single one was delicious; Christmas Roll Cherry Blossom Roll Spicy Tuna Roll TNT Roll Smokey Roll Crispy Roll We go fairly often and are always greeted with big smiles, they already know I'll have the hot tea if we don't bring the wine. This place reminds me of my favorite restaurant as a child! I love that when I order that my food actually tastes like it should and not overloaded with salt. Nice clean flavor. read more

Someone said this place is hit or miss. I agree. Husband's chicken teriyaki was a hit, but my shrimp and vegetables were a miss. We attempted to order an appetizer 3 times and never did get it. This is an update, posted after my last two experiences with this restaurant... Wow, I'm still very disappointed! The first and worst instance: My family ordered online and scheduled pick-up. Online, the menu said that a single hand-roll was $2. I ordered 6 hand-rolls to share, and expected the price to be around $13. It was $30 just for my order!! The woman over the phone did not tell us the cost before we arrived, and did not tell us when we got there to pick it up. So we only found out after we paid via-card, when my sister looked at the receipt. The entire thing was over $60, we were missing an order of white rice, and the menu proved to be outdated. They since fixed this issue on their site, and the problem has long been resolved. The food was excellent and I was pleased that the food was resh. The second and most recent experience: To keep this short, we received old food and mediocre sushi. The chicken was chewy and like rubber. The shrimp in the lo-main was small and in low quantity (we found two in the entire container). My to-go box was a mess with sauce, and the sushi itself was so, SO soggy! After this, we've decided to take a break from Hong Kong City. I would give this place another try considering the amount of good experiences I've had, but my mom remains dedicated to boycotting it. We went here when a lot of places were closed on a Sunday after 8pm and the place we wanted to go to was closed. We had limited choices and decided to go eat at this restaurant. The people were nice enough to let us in as they were closing in a couple of minutes. We ordered the General Tso Chicken, Singapore noodles and corn soup. Our meal ended up being less than 20 dollars. It was pretty good and good chinese food in the middle of nowhere . I should come back again, it was cheap and the portions were good. read more

It was my first visit, a take out run. For this area, the menu is impressive. Nice to see some Hong Kong style and Thai dishes that you won't find elsewhere around here. Based on Yelp reviews, I ordered the Cold Sesame Noodles in addition to the Basil Shrimp. The noodles were definitely excellent. The Basil Shrimp was very good, almost outstanding for restaurants in this region. So, I'd say four stars for the general diner, three stars for foodie purposes. If future meals are similar quality, then this place is definitely far superior to most chinese restos in the area. read more

One of the best Chinese delivery places in the area and not as expensive as others. I enjoy the food a lot. Dining in is an interesting experience because they don't do fountain drinks - all straight from the bottle. Which is more sanitary in the long run. This place is the only Chinese place that isn't constantly on PennLive for failing health inspections so they must be doing something right! Downside is they are very limiting on your condiments. When I ask for extra duck sauce or soy sauce when ordering delivery I am lucky if I get 2-3 packets total. Still a great experience overall though. read more
