The store is fairly well organized. Even though it is called "Hong Kong Supermarket", it feels more like a Vietnamese supermarket. Most of the brands and food products are Vietnamese. They also carry a variety of other Asian and international products. It is a large store, and some aisles offer items in bulk. I love how they are decorated with New Year decorations. They are definitely getting ready for the New Year, and they already have Lunar New Year goodies out for sale. Hong Kong market is where it's at if you are looking for specific ingredients for Thai and Vietnamese IMO! I love the fresh smells of banh mi banquette, instant ramen section is insane, produce, seafood and meats. They are connected to several great restaurants in the same plaza which is really convenient. This place is the most busy on Sundays so I would caution you to be prepared to wait in longer lines. However, the staff work hard and quickly to get the lines moving! They also renovated their bathrooms recently which are SO nice now! read more

I have had some of the greatest experiences ever shopping in this market. Freshness combined with quality and staff who genuinely care, you will find yourself in the right place at the right time. Speaking Spanish or Vietnamese is preferred but not required. They have foods from around the world; Jamaica, Vietnamese, China, France and Mexico ~ the list continues. Today around 5 pm, my husband and I went to this supermarket. My husband went to pay at the register while I had to go to the restroom. My husband told me that After he paid, he went ahead to exit and the security guard who was an old Vietnamese guy checked his receipt and kept pointed to the 3 squashes that with the paid sticker. Another customer spoke to him and pointed my husband paid and was infront of him at the certain cashier but the old man suspected him stole those squashes. Finally that customer called the cashier lady and she came and pointed at him that he paid those squashes already. I just came out from the rest room and bought something else and saw the security guard was still arguing with the cashier lady. After the lady took off, he threw the receipt into the cart with anger. I don't think we are going back there again read more

This is probably the most consistent grocery store that I go to. My household often cooks a lot of Vietnamese food and Hong Kong always carries everything we need. Their selection is vast and always fresh. Never had trouble with their produce or meats. Their cashiers tend to work fast and I like how they offer ice to help keep your items. This is a large grocery store that has mini stores and restaurants in it as well. It's usually pretty chill except if you're shopping during lunar new years. read more

This place was way better than 3 yrs ago. You're not allowed to take photos atleast by the jackfruit stand. There's a sign that says no photography. It should be free advertisement for them if people can take photos and posting it on social media then the others will know about it and would go there to buy. That's how I found out about this place before, thru social media post of a friend. The people that are working there are rude, they have this big carts and they will look at you like you're in their way and will not even excuse themselves from hitting your cart. Then I think I got ripped off when they weigh my jackfruit, they put it in a box that probably already weigh 2 lbs itself, so that added 2 lbs to my jackfruit that I have to pay. I had a very interesting experience at Hong Kong Supermarket today. It was my first time here and only the second Asian supermarket I've been to in the Atlanta area - H Mart in Duluth being the first. There were lots of unique and unusual finds - everything from shark and turtle meat to international groceries from far beyond "Hong Kong." Despite its name, like many pointed out, the store houses mostly Vietnamese vendors in the food court areas. Although, many Asian products can be found here from various countries. The other international groceries and products reflect Latin American, Afro- Caribbean, European, and American tastes as well. This was an interesting store to walk through and convenient to walk to from my motel, but I probably wouldn't come back unless I really needed to. The only reason I say this is because, like some other Yelpers mentioned, it doesn't feel as clean as some of the other stores out there. I prefer H Mart currently. There was a nauseating smell coming from the seafood section, just like old meat. I thought I shook the feeling as I was checking out and walking over to Chipotle, but it really stuck with me and I ended up throwing up a bit. I have a pretty strong stomach and haven't thrown up in years, so I guess that should tell you something. In any case, it was cool for a walkthrough, and if you can tolerate the smell (or avoid the seafood section altogether) then you might be okay. read more

Everything is great! The whole plaza is amazing, it is targeted towards the Vietnamese community, so therefore it might be a little difficult to communicate with some employees at the plaza if you don't know any Vietnamese :) But the place is amazing, they have all kinds of Asian foods and produce! I think this supermarket is perfect for people who want to feel like they are back home in Vietnam or people who want to cook Vietnamese food. This place has improved over the years. It use to be rather dirty and disorganized but they seem to have cleaned up their act. Now a days there are tons of Asian grocery stores in the metro Atlanta area. Still none of them have everything and so lots of time you gotta hop around going here and there picking certain items that you couldn't find here and there. This store focuses on mainly southeast Asian groceries mainly Vietnamese. If you know anything about Asian cuisine then you know that the food is vast and varied even within the city themselves. A perfect example is Peking Duck. (That is the generic word for marinated duck meat.) In Peking it's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. In Hong Kong its tender skin and tender meat. In Taiwan it is stir-fried over open flame giving it a totally different flavor. The store itself carries surprisingly a good amount of Taiwanese fresh produce and dry goods. I like coming here for their Taiwanese white radish which I think has the best selection in the city. They also have stuff like goji berry, red dates, white mushrooms, and Taiwanese fermented tofu with chilli sauce. I know Dinho in Chinatown doesn't get the kind of love that it should on Yelp but Dino probably carries the most Taiwanese items I have found...especially the odds and ends that nobody else carries.... Our favorite place to buy groceries when we're in Georgia. The selection is vast and prices are very affordable. They have a huge seafood section as well as fresh produce. It can be very busy with long check out lines but it moves fairly quickly. I wish we had an Asian market this size in the Charleston area however I know that would be a dream at this point. Hong Kong Supermarket is located in the large "Hong Kong Mall" shopping center just east of I-85 on Jimmy Carter Blvd. This is the same shopping center that has Happy Valley, Nam Phuong, Bento Cafe, and Kokai Thai Bistro. Even though the shopping center is called Hong Kong Mall, most of the businesses that operate out of here are actually Vietnamese-owned. The same goes for Hong Kong Supermarket. They might as well call it Vietnam Supermarket. The cashiers and bag boys are dressed in traditional Vietnamese garb, the store's food court stalls serve mostly Vietnamese food, and the supermarket itself sells many Vietnamese-specific goods and products. Just like its neighbors up the interstate, Hong Kong Supermarket gets incredibly packed on the weekends. That's when all the Asian families from the suburbs (and beyond) converge onto Jimmy Carter and Pleasant Hill to stock up on their groceries. Although I've yet to try anything at the food court, the stalls don't look as appealing as the ones at H Mart, Assi, and GreatWall. Hong Kong Supermarket isn't as clean as its competitors and it does have a smell. The freshness and quality of the meat, seafood, and produce are good, but the selection is not as deep as a store like Assi. Price are competitive, but Mega Mart is still the king when it comes to good quality and low prices. Miscellaneous notes: Each year, there are large gatherings and celebrations for the Chinese and Vietnamese (Tet) New Years here. In my college years, I used to go to Hong Kong Supermarket all the time when they were located on Buford Highway next to Plaza Fiesta and across from Follies (just north of Clairmont Rd.). Bad customer service. We had quite a terrible experience with one cashier. She showed her attitude toward us and feeling not happy when being asked to help us to check out a container that we left earlier on the other checkout counter. She ended up saying that was not her fault and she misunderstood us just after we asked her to call her manager. Additionally, price has been increased in some items in the last 3 months. I have been to the oriental grocery store many time in this supermarket. The reason I am here due the nearby strip mall shop is so good and I kind make it a regular stop in Atlanta. The supermarket offer fresh produce such as vegetables I mean Chinese vegetables and fruit. The also have the meat market and live fish in the seafood market. We like munch at this especially the snow fish fried stick. It also has some Chinese BBQ by the pound of order. The supermarket is big, I think the floor and dried food area is a bit messy. Certainly not need to said about the public bathroom. They are definitely not clean. The line do improve from my last visit. It is a preferable place to shop for Asian groceries because it is right at the exit 99. The customer service is so so. Some day I find an angel. The other day I got a devil. The vegetables are sometimes beaten and can be easily spoiled. I do not recommend people coming here late at night and in the weekends (and holidays). Trust me- You do not want to wait in line for more than one hour and hear people screaming nonstop. The floor is dirty especially at the meat and seafood stations. The meat and produce here are WAYYYYY cheaper than what you would find in Kroger or Wholefoods. During the Corona Virus Quarantine of 2020, I would consistently find plenty of price friendly meat, toilet paper, fruits, veggies and beer here. The cuts of steak here are smaller than I'm used to but I'll just buy two. There's also a butcher so you can ask for specific cuts the way you want it. If seeing live meat bothers you then you should stick to the Corporate Chains. Besides the meat and veggies, the kitchen ware is pretty extensive. They don't have everything, but they are close! If I lived in the ATL, I would actually cease going to Whole Foods with the exception of an extremely short list of items. With all these amazing Asian groceries (they carry more than just Asian grocery items, you have plenty from all walks of life) I'd go to each one until I I found the ONE. The best part is being exposed to certain fruits and vegetables you won't find at Walmart, Whole Foods, Publix, Kroger, Trader Joe's, Albertsons, Safeway or Piggly Wiggly. The seafood and meat departments are the same. You will find colorful, flavorful and unique items. I only wish I had a kitchen with me with all my cookware and gadgets. Looking for a one stop shop for all your Asian grocery needs? This place located right off Jimmy Carter Blvd will have it all if you need something more in the vein of Chines and Vietnamese. Korean influenced Gwinnett County is great but their stores like Hmart and Assi don't have some of the more Vietnamese favorites. HKM us great place to get a variety for fresh vegetables, herbs, and fruits. Jasmine rice, sauces and even fish and seafood. The best is that there are a lot of cashiers working so you. An get through the lines, but so expect a crowd while shopping. This is a popular place. While you are there plan to explore the rest of the shopping plaza. It is a great experience in itself. "Ne jamais dire 'jamais'", so the saying goes - I guess that's true of grocery stores and Yelp reviews. Last time we were here, OH, 18 months back, we found the place unorganized, crowded, not-clean... altogether unpleasant place to shop, we said we'd 'never' come back. Well it so happens that, pre-TG, we had to pick up a few items from an Asian mart, and we were going to go to our go to, Jusgo (you know - just go!), when I recognized that, given what little we had to get, and where we had to go next, it made a heck of a lot more sense to just stop here and take our chances, vs. driving 20 extra miles north. It did the trick. The shallots were not altogether inexpensive, but the veggies were quite fresh and reasonably priced. They had oranges that looked suspiciously Floridan, but a big sign 'assures' us it's Sunkist and California; so I thought, what the heck - I'll take a chance on two of these suckers. Updated review coming up (or amendment) as to whether there's any truth in advertising. In the mean time, this place served a purpose today (and they take Amex, despite the check-out machine clearly NOT indicating so). read more

120 check-in's and I'm updating my review from 2013. Honestly, I think I came here more than 120 times cause I know I forgot to check in a few times and before I knew about checking in, just saying. I still come here often. I think they have green papaya in stock all the time and they are yummy, not old and soft like other Asian grocery stores. Fresh bamboo shoots are still available and goes well with my kapoon. I don't like buying the can versions, not the same. Not many Asian grocery stores carry the small 5 lbs bags of rice - Jasmine, brown Jasmine, broken, and sticky (glutinous). I no longer buy the 50 or 100 lbs bags of rice anymore cause my family don't eat that much rice anymore. Yep, you heard that right, this Asian family has cut back from rice. I haven't eaten rice since May 2016 after Mother's Day. Just taking my health seriously lately. I don't force anyone to follow my lifestyle, that's why i still buy the small 5 lbs bag in case the family craves it or a guest comes over. On top of me being more health conscious, Hong Kong Supermarket also sell gluten free oyster sauce. I've seen gluten free soy sauce but never oyster sauce. I don't use soy sauce but I sure do love me some oyster sauce for my stir fry food! Another to-go veggie for me here is the Korean sweet potatoes, I find it always cheaper here and the quality is much better. Oh yeah, you can find Hmong noodles here haha. Check the photos out! Huge. Lots of fresh produce. Cool, new things to check out. This whole building seems to be a thriving marketplace for all things Asian. The prices seem good, and the selection is definitely varied. Plus, there's a food court where you can get some fantastic eats. And plenty of other stores within that sell all manner of things. There's even a place where you can get makeup in any shade or variety imaginable. Look, I admit it, I'm not here often enough to speak as thoroughly on the wares as some of my yelping peers. I have not eaten in the food court in a long time. It was very sad to see how the food court has deteriorated. It felt like you will get food poising just by sitting in that area. Dirty floors, boxes everywhere, there are microwaves, etc. I think it's just the employee's eating area instead of a food court. The roasted pig place has tripled their prices. I don't think pork has gotten that expensive. Their prices should be regulated. Those restaurant owners need to clean up their places. The bakery looks like warehouse with the mess of boxes in the front. Just imagine their kitchens if the parts that you can see looks messy. You really feel like if you stepped into a third world country. We need to bring up the standards. Be clean! We are in America. read more

This market is HUGE. Has everything that you possibly need. They have a ton of fresh fish and for cheap. Prices are reasonable. They even have an ice chest in the front with free ice! That's great for people traveling through ATL. I always get a ton of fresh seafood and meats because it's much cheaper than buying it in Mississippi. This market has many Asian foods I look for. But the clientele is awful. My mother was born and raised in China of British and German parents in the 1930s. My mother was always pushy and rude. I find this to be true of the Asian shoppers at this store. I used to frequent the store a lot until the pushiness and rudeness of most of the clientele made me to decide I would only shop there when I absolutely needed an item from there. After visiting Hong Kong Supermarket a few times, I've decided that I'll only return to visit Big Wong's in their food court. With a few solid Asian supermarket options up north, I don't see myself giving this place a try, again, anytime soon. Below is a pros and cons list, for each category that I find important: I. FRUITS & VEGETABLES Pros +Robust selection of hard-to-find Asian vegetables and fruits, ranging from mints to dates to melons. Also, I've never seen so much durian in my life. +Clearly organized and priced. Even though it does get congested there on the weekends, it's not overwhelming. +Very competitive prices. +Well stocked. Did I mention I've never seen this much durian? Cons -Hit or miss with the quality of the produce. For example, we bought some fresh choyote to make some Vietnamese salads, however, some other veggies we purchased for stir fries were way too old. II. MEATS & POULTRY Nothing really positive. I have questions about their quality, especially since everything either looks incredibly pink (hormones) or purple (old). No deep reds - that's a worry. III. SEAFOOD Pros +Very affordable groupers, snappers, bass, etc... Shocked by the prices, honestly. +Half seems very fresh. And if you don't know how to determine freshness, look for clear, bulging eyes. If they're sunken, it means they're not fresh. Cons -Several of the grouper we brought home tasted flavorless. -They need to do a better job cleaning the fish. If we pay to descale them, they should be descaled. We shouldn't have to do it at home. IV. OTHER TIDBITS -It's a pretty standard Asian market with jars, noodles, kitchenware, etc... of all types. -Not the cleanest place. -A few broken cars here and there. -Parking lot could fit a small town. A sprawling, chaotic maelstrom of Asian culinary commerce; the Hong Kong Supermarket rightly puts the word "super" in supermarket. Selling everything from cell phones to women's shoes to live geoduck, this cavernous space feels disorganized and shambolic; that at any moment stacks of shiney, steel rice cookers or thorny, bowling bowl sized durian could tumble down, crashing onto the floor, crushing everyone in its wake. Distinct funky smells permeate different bins and containers as if signature cards labeling the foodstuff within. If the Buford Highway Farmers Market is a clean and orderly Disneyland then the Hong Kong Supermarket is Dante's Seven Circles of Hell. I LOVE IT!!! Anchoring the Oakbrook Shopping Center on Jimmy Carter Blvd., the Hong Kong Supermarket really is a slightly smaller, more Asian version of the Buford Highway Farmers Market. The fish monger section, with a vast selection of live, fresh and frozen seafood, is smaller but employs the same ticket ordering system as the Buford Highway spot. A plentiful array of meat - beef, pork, lamb (prime cuts as well as organ meat) - is available. Produce from all points on the globe is abundant and at a fair price. One of my favorite things to pick up are frozen fish cakes and processed meat balls (cuttlefish, shrimp, beef, tendon, squid) - a perfect compliment to any hot soup on a cold day. Finally, there is a food court off to one side with 4 different stalls serving up piping hot bowls of pho, Chinese bbq hanging on hooks, Meat and Three rice plates and pastries. This is street food - hearty, cheap and delicious. Hong Kong Supermarket isn't for everyone; especially if you are used to shopping for food in pristine, antiseptic environs. If you want a different grocery shopping experience, one that transports you out of Atlanta - check out Hong Kong Supermarket, especially on a weekend. read more

This review is geared to people like me, who enjoy poking around Asian markets, without a particular agenda or quest for a certain product. My overall feeling: this market pales in comparison to Buford Highway Farmers Market as far as selection and "ambience". No, I'm not looking for subdued lighting and mood music: I mean cleanliness, layout, things like that. Sale items are well-priced. Strawberries, 99 cents. 2 lb bag of white onions, $1.19. No coupon or frequent shopper card needed. HOWEVER -- note capitalization for emphasis -- when I got home, I realized my cheapie finds were on the verge of turning bad. Avocados were too mushy, as were the strawberries. I had to throw out one onion.... Hong Kong Supermarket has a good selection of meats and fish -- live frogs, too -- as well as over-priced boxed and canned American items. If I'm in this strip mall, I wouldn't be adverse to stopping in again, but would I go out of my way to shop here? Nah. read more
