My wife and I have ordered from Hong Kong Tokyo for several years. usually once a week. Average bill was $80-$100. Always tipped the driver 20% or more! All of the deliveries were fast and very courteous Unfortunately I had physical problem (sepsis) and I spent 4 months away from home in the hospitals and physical rehab places as I had to learn how to stand and walk again. So, when I finally made it home the first day back, I ordered some sushi delivered. What a shock! I have always aid cash and my order was $102 and now they tell me I cannot pay cash but have to put it on a card. then the delivery time was well over an hour. did not recognize the delivery person and he made me pose for a picture holding the food. Well that was not the end of it. We had ordered a shrimp tempura roll and since I do not like the ell sauce that they put on it but my wife does I asked for the sauce on the side like I always do. When I checked the bill they charged me $3 for this! I called and asked what was going on they were very rude and said that if I do not like it, go somewhere else. We've been customers there for a decade or so and the food (sushi) has always been great. Recently (as of October 2025), management decided to hire 3th party delivery personnel and now, it "sucks". From a pleasant delivery from a familiar face to a "no" delivery by some "unknown entities", Honk Kong Tokyo is jeopardizing their good reputation. Tonight (11/22/2025) was the worst experience on records. Not only the tracking link (really) was erroneous, the delivery driver never show up to our house and "claimed" that our delivery was waiting on our steps.... My lady friends and I go out to lunch 1 time a month and in October we picked Hong Kong Tokyo . I Called ahead and asked to have a table big enough for us and separate checks. Got there and it was all set up . Lunch prices are phenomenal with a choice of soup, then pick one of a-few different sides. And the variety of main meal choices literally had to be 30. One friend got the Bento box which she enjoyed. Everyone else got the lunch special. Everything was tasty and fresh and all left satisfied. It's definitely 5*s at lunch. I entered cheerfully and greeted the women behind the desk, only to be ignored. I first thought perhaps she didn't hear me. I waited to make eye contact, and again gave a cheerful "hello." She look directly at me and responded "what can I get you." I was out done. I politely stated "nothing thank you." They are one of the few spots that offer brown rice in this area and it is the good kind too - it's so much healthier for your system. The women on the phone told me it would b ready within 10 minutes however it wasn't ready until 30 minutes after my initial call. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. Period. Sure, it's more than a strictly Chinese place now with their sushi and fusion items but I still love it solely for the Chinese cuisine. Strangely, under other ownership, when it was "House Of Tung" (By the way, I love you people) the food was very similar. They closed, renovated and came back with entirely new ownership, management and staff as "Hong Kong Tokyo". Is it identical? No. But it is definitely similar and for that I am thankful because "House Of Tung" was my favorite Chinese restaurant. By far. I spent thousands of dollars there. Happily. I live several towns away from Stratford, always have - but can't stop eating here - I can't get food like this anywhere else. My "test" dishes are Teriyaki beef appetizer, Hunan shrimp, fried rices and lo meins - basic dishes - but if a restaurant can't match on those items, there's no reason to explore any further in my opinion. Apparently, my opinion of Chinese food is not the norm because this place SHOULD be packed with people from open to close and they almost never are. They do a decent take out. But they have a nice, clean, good size dining room and it is often half or less full. Crazy to me. If you enjoy large, fresh shrimp in your meals instead of the tiny sea monkeys other places serve - that alone should have you trying this restaurant. The parking lot is shared with other places - but it's not crazy, there are stop signs and crosswalks to make it very tolerable getting to and from the restaurant no matter how busy. read more

The worst!!! I phoned in an order to pick up. My wife is recovering from surgery and was looking forward to sushi and Chinese food. The results were an absolute disaster. We ordered 2 sushi rolls... And what they gave us was the wrong order.... Not even close.... We also ordered a "house special" - prawns with honey walnuts in spicy sauce. One bite was enough - the walnuts were rancid, both in smell and taste. I drove back to the restaurant and they did acknowledge that we had been given the wrong sushi order and I then asked the manager to taste the walnuts. She took one and, interestingly, made a face when she took a bite but proclaimed that it was "okay." I asked for a refund and when she noticed that a couple of pieces of the sushi rolls were missing (my wife was willing to try it rather than having to drive back to the restaurant) she decided not to give me a full refund. Absolutely absurd. Everything about this experience was beyond belief, both in terms of the disgusting food we were given and the way I was treated when I had no option other than to drive back to the restaurant. This is one of my favorite spots to eat in the area. Whether I dine in, or get delivery, I have never had a negative experience. Delivery is always hot, fresh, and fast. Dining in the wait staff are always pleasant, eager to please, and the food is always delicious. My favorites on their menu are the crunchy spicy tuna rolls, miso soup, and all of the tempura options. Their Chinese options are also very good, I like the sweet and sour chicken and shrimp with broccoli. For Chinese/Japanese food, this is the best place in town that I have found so far. read more

It had been a while since I had been to the Hong Kong Tokyo and boy has it changed. First, there has been an obvious overhaul of the decor and dining space. Large and minimalist but with a kind of cool vibe ( for a strip mall in Stratford). Dress was definitely causal and families with children are welcome. Second, the menu was more Tokyo than Hong Kong - which turned out to be a pleasant surprise for us. There is a small sushi bar and a sushi chef so we figured we would give it a try. My dinner partner had miso soup, spicy tuna roll and shrimp sushi - perfect for her tentative sushi palate. I had the sushi sashimi dinner which was beautifully presented, fresh, and enough to fill me up (miso soup, 12 pieces of sashimi, 5 pieces of sushi and a California roll). Prices were about what you pay for sushi and sashimi in this area. The service was attentive, if not perhaps a little unpolished. I would not say we were rushed but the server, polite as she was, was a little over eager. However, I will take that as opposed to disinterested and ignored service I sometimes get in places like this. I don't understand the bad reviews. HKT is easily the best Chinese food in town. Their food is always fresh, the people who work there are super nice and its delivered in a half hour or better nearly every time. I love that you can get a combo of Chinese and sushi, even tempura. Their pork and mixed veggies is awesome, the lobster tempura is ridiculous, and they have the best boneless spare ribs around. My friend had beef and string beans which was great too. $7.00 for a lunch combo , so we got out of there for $10.00 each with the tip. Almost as cheap as a Mcdonald's meal but real food. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! The kid on the phone did not seem to be the brightest. Our whole dinner party heard the host order 3 spring rolls. We were PAID for 2 but received ZERO. We called back immediately but spent over 10 minutes on the phone with them arguing with us!! The kid on the phone not only asked us to check the bag again but also asked for us to take a picture!! Repeatedly had to repeat ourselves and they weren't going to bring us the rolls even though we never got them! Is there a surge of people looking to get free spring rolls? The manager conveniently wasn't there and they charged us again for their error on the third spring roll! Rest assured we're calling back to complain about this customer service.
