Very easy to drop off loads of corrugated cardboard when the blue bin just won't fit it all. As of this date, you just have to go to the end of the cul-de-sac of Hookela Pl. in Sand Island and ask the men working there where to dump it. They even helped me dump it all out! read more

The service is poor at best. HDS finds it necessary to leave multiple dumpster sitting at curbside for hours on end. These dumpsters are from neighboring areas and are trucked onto our street and then left for all to inhale the putrid smell of rotting garbage. The drivers block driveways and when confronted about it they take offense and resort to intimidation and threats. This is a unprofessional operation and contacting the company has resulted in zero change in operations. I don't recommend using their services. read more

He apologizes on behalf of HDS, stating that the company is going through a transitional period with all the inherited routes from WOA and that this price increase on my contract fell through the cracks and should have been reviewed thoroughly. He states that they WILL honor the $285/month for bin rental and pick up every two weeks, as the original contract stated. 07/01/24 HDS bin is received at my facility as scheduled. 07/08/24 Brian C. calls to follow up if everything is okay and lets me know pick up service will start on 07/16 and 07/30. 07/09/24 Received my first Honolulu Disposal Service bill for trash service and lock charge for 07/01/24- 07/31/24 at $285.00 plus tax. Now why would it be okay put dumpsters on the road, during rush hour traffic in lanes that are marked as no parking, tow away zones? HWS doesn't care about the community who have to get their kids to school or go to work. This has been an ongoing problem for years on Kuakini Street. I understand that waste disposal is a fundamental service that needs to be done, but they leave these dumpsters on the street for over 1.5-2hrs during rush hour! They could also have the lift truck just follow the larger truck and tilt the dumpster and out it away right away, but their time is worth more than the thousands of drivers and kids they inconvenience. I'm sure people reading these reviews are mainly upset condo owners. Well being one, I just want to extend my annoyance with them. For two years (and counting) I've suffered from a 4am weekday alarm from Honolulu disposal service where they have their reverse beepers on (they must've tweaked it to be much louder than a normal truck) reversing into the condo and leaving it on while loading up the bins(could at least put the car in park dammit) then at 5am the main dump truck comes and clanks and bangs the bins a dozen of times, sounding like bombs going off in midst of a quiet morning. On the weekend, an afternoon gathering of trash bin banging, engines rumbling, and group meeting right at the only entrance to our parking. Sooo unless If you're a resident manager looking for a new dump service for your condo, this review doesn't really concern you, but is here for you enjoyment. There is a bin to a business right on the other side of the fence adjacent to my house. For some reason, the company feels it is reasonable to have pickup right around 6AM (or earlier) every single Saturday morning. I don't mind the early Wednesday morning pickup, since I already have to be awake for work, but the Saturday pickups are horrible. You might ask why I don't just use a noise machine to block out the sound. Unfortunately because the bin is so close to the house, it shakes the entire property in a way that jolts me out of bed even when I have the AC, a Vornado fan, and a noise machine running at the same time. I've called the location many times, leaving messages with people and machines. No one ever returns my call for messages and on the rare occasion that a person answers, I'm told that the manager who handles that area is not in. Although they swear that I'll get a call back, nothing changes. Look, I get that trash needs to be picked up and sometimes the routes will need to be early in the morning. However, the fact that they cannot even be bothered to return any of my calls is really unprofessional. I just don't want to wake up every Saturday before the sun comes up when it sounds like my house is about to collapse. read more

These people are complete and total idiots! And, they have to be some of the rudest and most disrespectful people I've ever dealt with. They know the city's noise ordinance, but they ignore it anyway. They think they're special, and that they're above the law, but they're not! They know exactly what time the city ordinance allows them to come through, banging the cans around, and sounding the reverse alarms, but they break the law anyway. They have absolutely no respect for you or the community in any way, shape, or form. All they care about is what time their driver pau work. You and the rights of the community DO NOT MATTER! All that matters is what that one, single driver wants. And, don't try to confront the driver about it in person either, or they'll get violent, and try to start a fight which has already happened twice. Look, I know you already know this, but it's like this, you are NOT allowed to run your trucks in public until 6:00 AM. PERIOD! Not, 3:30 AM, not 4:30 AM, and not even 5:30 AM....6:00 AM. THE END! I know they know they're breaking the law breaking as well, because I've made several calls, spoken to a manger, and requested that it stop. But, they give you some BS, then they hang up the phone, and it happens again a few days later. I've even threatened to sue them over their behavior, but they just don't care. They just dare you to do something about; i.e., to sue them. So, long story short, I've documented everything over the past year, or so, and I have a really strong case. Honolulu Disposal serves our townhome complex. This past weekend I was talking with a neighbor in the house across the street from us. They said that they were impressed with HD because if garbage falls out when our cans get taken out to the street, they take the time to pick it up. I thought that was quite a compliment. Probably just what they are suppose to do, but little things get noticed. I've seen less than detailed service from other companies. We've had HD as our garbage disposal service for years now. We have trash service from HDS and we ran into some problems but Chan, Lisa and the Maintenance crew did a awesome job solving the problems. The truck drive hit one of our enclosure but when I called and Chan came down to look at it it was fixed before I knew it. She also got all our bins changed out to newer looking bins since we are repainting our buildings it will all together look way better. After being long time customers of Honolulu Disposal Service and Honolulu Recovery Systems, we have decided to seek trash services from elsewhere. Customer service is seriously lacking, all of my correspondence with this company has been hostile, even with the sales people! I don't see this company's future in the market given how well their competition treated me.... EDITED: beware of signing a contract with this company, they automatically renew it every year without review. When I got to work I saw that vandals had pushed our dumpster into the marsh. Within an hour of the guy coming to normally empty the dumpster, 2 gentlemen from Honolulu Disposal were on site to retrieve the dumpster from the marsh and fixed the situation. I have to say as a person who runs a business on the west side of O'ahu Honolulu Disposal is one of my most challenging vendors. Calls to the office go unanswered when forwarded through from the receptionist, I don't get email replies to questions or concerns and I'm currently serviced by two different members of their sales team because of the number of locations I oversee and today I had interaction with two drivers that were just rude. So needless to say, when it comes to Honolulu Disposal, they are not customer focused at all. I will never use their service again. My family home got flooded and I lost everything. Needed to haul everything away and ended up getting charged 2,500 for two unloads. The person I spoke to told me I would be getting charged $700 less for the second unload, which I said was a deal breaker considering I have no money to splurge after what happened. This past Thursday I was on by bicycle a little before 9AM trying to cross Kapiolani to go up University. One of this company's dump trucks was pulled halfway into the crosswalk so even after the traffic light had turned green, neither me or the little old lady next to me could see the walk sign and we both decided to play it safe and wait for the light to turn red, and then turn green again. We're opening a new 550 unit condominium in Kaka'ako. Residents are moving in and the volume of new furniture and appliance cardboard and packing material is enormous. Honolulu Disposal's Dispatch and Service Departments have been outstanding in getting our open top bins emptied quickly. They'll even call and say, "hey, our driver is 15 minutes out and will be there shortly." Read the fine print before signing a sales agreement if you need a dumpster rental during house renovations. They charge $495 every 14 days for "inactivity". I didn't realize this until the second bill came with two of these $495 charges. When I called to inquire they pointed to this detail on page 3 of the agreement and sent me current itemized charges that will appear in the third invoice that I haven't received yet. A third charge for $495. So a total of $1,485 for the pleasure of having their dumpster handy during renovation. Highway robbery. read more

I'm a Site Manager for a property on University Avenue. The HNL disposal dumpster was tagged with unsightly graffitii so I reported it to them. I spoke with Pua who was very friendly and helpful, I requested the paint information. She emailed me the same day where to obtain the paint and suggested that it would be more cost effective if they covered it up for us. I was very pleased that it was painted the very next day! I am wondering if the owner embraces the policies of Honolulu Disposal Their contracts and policies are terrible and responses are slow and rude. They are not customer oriented and if any company continues to exist doing business this way, then something is awfully wrong. We tried to cancel our contracts after the initial 3 years as we no longer needed the service but their response was they have an automatic renewal policy. They do not need to advise their customers of the renewal. There was absolutely no notice from Honolulu Disposal. Is this how they exist? This company should take a real hard look at the people they employ. Dangerous driving maneuvers such as driving into oncoming traffic, peeling out to get in front of cars and ripping turns in a high traffic area like Ward Avenue and other densely populated areas is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Today I witnessed a pedestrian in a cross walk jump back on the curb when the young man in Truck 349 with license plate # 975 TVG came booking it down Iolani Avenue. I also watched him almost broadside a sedan with a mother and her child in a car seat who had to slam on her breaks because rhe Hawaij Disposal Driver recklessly came into her lane of traffic from another street. It was scary to watch and the old man walking his dog even asked if I saw that and proceeded to call the Police. But as other reviews implied, this company will do nothing but turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to this dangerous behavior.
