He kept waiting hoping that they would change their policy but it never happened. So then he thought of this grand idea to have it shipped to his parent's house and then have it shipped to Hawaii. We hired HFS to deliver two heavy crates of stone from Honolulu to Kailua. They were polite and courteous both on the phone and in person. Their estimate was reasonable considering it required them to use a flat-bed truck with lift and a forklift. They delivered within 24 hours of my request. The forklift that came with the crates of stones was very powerful and able to place the crates with pinpoint accuracy. You have to pay a bit extra if you want to use a credit or debit card to pay HFS. But, it wasn't that much trouble to provide them with cash on delivery. read more

Mikey is the Man! If you're shipping stuff from Honolulu to the West Coast and don't have quite enough to fill a container, HFS makes it easy. Especially when Mikey's on duty. They are a freight forwarding company that'll ship your stuff space available from port to port. You are charged only for what you ship. Mikey's in charge of Eastbound freight and will help you with everything from off loading your truck, palletizing it, then getting your paperwork, and billing all squared away. No reservations are needed, you just show up with your goods. Everything is loaded on 48' x 40' pallets, stacked high, then shrink wrapped. ((amazingly what we have left fit on two pallets, craziness)) Try to show up before 1230p or after 130p. Don't be a jerk like me who drives up during lunch. Really though I was prepared to wait, but with FIVE STAR customer service Mikey helped me immediately and worked through his break. Like I said Mikey is the Man! read more

I used HFS for my move back to Oakland from Honolulu, and paid less than a THIRD of what I had w/ another company on the move out to HNL. Amazing!! And my stuff arrived faster to boot! HFS made it super, super easy. I just turned up on their loading dock with no reservation, some nice big dudes helped me tetris all my boxes together into one big block, I paid, and several weeks later they were forklifting it over to my car in California. I've been meaning to write HFS a positive yelp review for some time now! Honolulu Freight service moved me from the Bay Area to Honolulu. There were no frills, we had to go to the loading dock and load everything onto a palate ourselves. The shipping costs were unbelievably reasonable (it cost me just over $700) to move all my worldly possessions (less than half of what I was quoted anywhere else). Service was pleasant, professional and courteous. Items were delivered to my door in waikiki on time undamaged. I would never use any other carrier to move to Hawaii, Thank you!!!! read more

HFS did a great job helping me ship my car rims from California to Hawaii. It was pretty inexpensive also! I was able to coordinate the picking up of my rims, by HFS from my Uncle's house in San Jose, CA from Honolulu. On top of that they repacked them and fired them off. I paid a little extra for that, but it was well worth it! It was fairly fast and my rims came in great condition. The communication was excellent also because they are able to be reached via email (my preferred medium when trying to create a electronic paper trail). Contacted by driver today that he was on way to deliver windows to my home. He asked for assistance to deliver. I advised no one could help him at my house nor should they. He arrived at my house by himself. My sister-in-law and wife had to help him unload. Not safe for either of them as I watched via video feed, my family steadied the palate of windows lowered by the truck lift and then helped roll the palate to a secure location. Totally unprofessional behavior. Honolulu Freight Service, is amazing. If there had been 6 Stars to give, I would have given that. I live in the Bay Area, California, and needed my things brought back from Honolulu. Due to the nice reviews on Yelp, I called HFS, to get an approximate price range. I spoke with Jennifer in the office, and she was very kind and helpful. Ones I arrived on Oahu, Jennifer called to see if I had any questions she could help with... Wauu, that is customer care. The shipping pallets are 48x40 and max. 7 ft. High of cargo/boxes. Ones I got to their place with my boxes, there was the most kind young man, who with great care and professionalism, packed them on the pallet, and like a big puzzle, got them evenly and safely stacked ( I had many different sizes of boxes), and lots of cling wrap was wrapped around to secure everything. I had 79 cubic feet= $588.63 with all fees included. That is far less than I paid 5 1/2 years ago, shipping with horrible Air Pacific Cargo. 11 days later I got a friendly phone call from Wilson, HFS in San Leandro CA, that my things had arrived. 11 am this morning I called them to make sure they were not closed for lunch. Ones again a very friendly lady answered my call, they were open, and she would make sure my things were out front and ready when I got there. Upon arrival, I entered the office, and the same nice lady said: Ms. Paulsen ? I said yes, she said, open the back of your truck, and we will get it loaded. I went to the bathroom, and 4 min. later when I got out, my pallet was loaded onto the truck.... That is just remarkable ! I signed the papers, and gave them a big Mahalo. One of my friends had a really BAD experience with a different freight fowarder, so I was nervous but I trusted my stuff to HFS for the mainland voyage. They were easy to work with, and although it seemed like they weren't too big on details or formalities over the phone when I got my quote, when the bill came, it was close to the estimate and was probably as cheap as it gets. Beware the fuel surcharges, but I'm sure that is the case with everyone in this business now. (They're currently running at about 32%!!) Anyway, my stuff came in undamaged and in only a few weeks. Plus I got to pack everything myself, which I thought was a plus because I didn't have to pay someone else to do it AND I avoided the problem that my friend had w/ the other shipper, which was that their stuff was packed into really heavy crates, then the shipper charged them by weight!! But I packed it myself and dragged it down to the dock, and away it went. The terminal in San Leandro is really hard to find, but everything arrived safe and they weren't too tripped out about the fact that it took me a few days to get a truck together & get down there to pick it up. Honolulu Freight Service is a fantastic company to work with when shipping household goods from Hawaii to California! My girlfriend decided to move to California and she had lots of stuff to ship (no surprise there! - lol). After packing all of her boxes and plastic tubs, I checked around to find out how much it would cost to ship her stuff. After contacting HFS, Jennifer helped me get the quotes I needed and arranged for a drop off. We had movers bring the boxes and tubs, HFS provided the pallets and wrapped everything up. Simple and smooth! When the shipment came to LA, I went down to their Terminal (in Montebello) and picked up the pallets. All in all, it took about 1-1/2 weeks from drop off to pick up. If I need to ship more things back and forth from Hawaii to California, I'll definitely use HFS! read more

If you would like to ship all of your worldly goods and family keepsakes in a container that has a leaky roof then have Honolulu Freight deliver one from Young Brothers. We had to completely unload our container in the rain to save our possessions, rent from another company, and sleep on the floor for 3 nights because we then missed our shipping date and already had our airline tickets booked, and had no furniture.I submitted a claim to both companies and they said they weren't responsible. I wanted to purchase an automotive part from and online store but they didn't ship that item to Hawaii. Bummer! So a friend of mine had a similar situation and suggested using a freight forwarder. Huh? How do I do that? So I search and found HFS and emailed and asked the newbie questions. Marnie replies back that day with questions to do a quote for me. I send the needed information and get a quote that day along with a form I need to fill out. What's a Bill of Lading? She walks me through the needed fields to fill out and I'm done with that part. Then I ask if I can send it to their Portland terminal so they don't charge me California tax. Of course she says and the price is the same. So I order my item on July 15th and sent the form to Marnie and she forwards it to the Portland terminal. The item reaches the Portland terminal and I get a shipping information on July 27th. I receive my item on August 6th at my house in perfect condition. My daughter was also very impressed with the delivery person. From start to end it was a very painless process and reasonably priced. If I had purchase that same item locally it still wouldn't be here and would've been more expensive. Thank you Marnie and all at HFS!!! read more

I have many good things to say about Honolulu Freight Service from the estimate to picking up of my stuff. Since I didn't have a lot of money, I appreciated how Adam & Michelle worked with me and was actually able to bring my rate down alitte more. That was greatly appreciated! Really. I have never done this before, so I appreciated Adam's patience and helpfulness. They were able to work with me on paying alittle later and NOT charging me storage for a period of time! They took the time and care to give my friend and I detailed directions. When my friend and I went to pick up my stuff, people were helpful in finding my items and made sure it was my stuff that we were picking up. Everything was in good shape. Word to the wise - parking can sometimes be really bad back there. They were really friendly and helpful. They are definitely busy, but do return phonecalls.
