Holo Holo Card First Time Requirements
    Ross T.

We there and found out they moved from the old location to the present location down the street from we're they used to be located. The location is larger and with parking area and restrooms. The office Staff was very friendly and helpful when you get they have signs instructed not to enter until you are called. When I went there was no lines so got there waited behind the red line then was instructed to come in, then asked why I was there and then the counter person asked to I.D. and the preprinted form that we did online and printed before we got there. After a few questions my Holo Holo card was handled and made within not more then 10 mins got my new card with picture!

Get your transit passes here for Regular, Senior and Children. Senior pass is daily or monthly ($6) or yearly! What a bargain and easy off/ on busses! You can also renew online, Go To www.holocard.net Note: Regular bus Senior rides are $1 per ride with your card or Drivers License. The monthly card is a savings over individual rides!

(Traveled 09/26/22 MO @ 2:00pm): Literally a bus transfer center in the city of Kalihi where you were required to get off the bus and wait for another if you were coming into this depot! I ended up at the Kalihi Transit Center sort of by accident but also on purpose if that made any sense whatsoever. On this particular day, I was getting familiar with the various bus routes initially for my goddaughter/youngest niece and then simply for myself since I planned on spending more time on Oahu in the very near future. Having spent many summers on the island in my younger years, I learned that The Bus routes were simple to learn and easy to understand. It's been many years since those times, so I needed to reacquaint myself with the hopes of having less dependency on a vehicle. Would this major hub of the bus lines be as helpful and informative as I remembered!? PURCHASE N/A this instance ($0.00): I had already purchased my reloadable HOLO Card with plenty of credits on it, so I was good. Otherwise, that was the only thing you would've purchased here. FYI... as of the date of this review, the single-fare rate was $3.00 which included up to 2 1/2 hours of unlimited transfers. SERVICE Unless you needed to purchase a pass from the ticket office/window or you specifically asked a question to one of the bus drivers as they pulled in to either unload their vehicle or pick up new passengers, generally speaking there wasn't much in the way of service being offered. The posted route signage was pretty self-explanatory as long as you knew where you were going https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=oY4YzEoW8IttWdsQy7AWjA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance) There appeared to be sufficient spots at a nearby lot if you decided to drive yourself here. Otherwise, I observed mostly riders being dropped off or who were already on a bus whose route ended here to transfer to another bus as in the case for me - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A no-nonsense clean bus depot of sorts with some concrete and wooden bench seats, restrooms https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=rEvmSWgjczVADLOcW4w6nQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, a ticket office, and various posted information. Plenty of natural lighting since you were in a fully-exposed outdoor area while street and structure lights filled in the rest in the evening. There were no TVs nor background music. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=zhNOJrmfxj5GkeH08S2Cmg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL The Kalihi Transit Center was perfectly fine for what it was and had no issues if I had to come through this way again. If you were trying to get to other far-reaching parts of the island, more than likely you would pass through here. I would've liked some clarification as to why all passengers had to disembark their respective bus as they arrived here and then wait for the next one that came along. In my particular case, I just wanted to stay on and get back to Hawaii Kai which I was already on the correct bus route. Oh well, I ended up taking another route line to explore more of the island and then returned later to catch the proper route home. Since I didn't exactly speak with the bus drivers or anyone in the office, I had no service experience whatsoever. Again, everything was pretty self-explanatory. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, although I didn't purchase anything, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Office to load your Holo bus pass or get your disability Holo card.

This place is the hub for downtown transportation. Located in the beginning of Kalihi right off the freeway. If you need a senior or disability Holo card this is the place to come. ** Before you stand in line don't forget to go inside the small office to grab an application. They should put a table outside so that people can see that they need to complete theses applications to purchase theses Holo Cards. The cashiers are nice and will guide you through the process. You can also load your Holo cards here by paying for daily rides at $5.50 a pop. Your first card is free then it's $2.00 for additional cards. Many busses go through here and there is a good size parking lot if you work in town and want yo leave your car. Great idea.

    Got my Holo Transit Card...

This is my first time here. Fellow Yelper suggested I get my Holo card and I thought why not maybe someday I might actually be able to ride the rail but in the meantime it would be nice to be able to hop on the bus at any time. You go online and register for your Holo card. Since I am a senior, and I don't mean high school senior, it said we needed to come to the Kalihi transit center office to pick up a card. It turns out that's because they need to take your photo. Using my trusty navigation on my phone I was able to easily find the Transit office. Lots of parking, a short walk across the street and a very capable person is there to assist Information checked, photo taken and card produced all within 20 minutes. Very efficient. I think I came at the right time because there were only two people ahead of me and when I left there were about 10 people behind me. Looks like the Holo card will be the way to go

So my lifelong friend is on vacation and asked me to take her mom to lunch. So I thought, why not make it an errand and then lunch day. Her mom has been taking the bus and paying the $1 per trip and I told her she should get a senior bus pass. She thought she could not get a senior citizen bus pass because she is not a resident of Hawaii but apparently, ANY senior citizen with a government-approved identification like a birth certificate, state ID, drivers license, or passport is eligible to get a senior bus pass for $30 a year. Although the website definitely says calendar year, it turns out that it is a rolling 12-month period. Upon arrival at the Kalihi Transit Center, there were not many signs directing traffic, but the visitor parking is immediately to the right where there is a huge free parking lot. Just a 1 minute walk away was their office. There was no line and my friend's mom was done in less than 5 minutes with her brand new senior citizen bus pass. I was extremely pleased with the efficiency of the process. Just show your ID, take a picture, and your senior citizen bus pass is printed immediately on the spot in a couple minutes. Great job! I wish all things were done this easily!

Kalihi Transit Center is within walking distance to TheBus Honolulu facility grounds. There are public restrooms on the premises for the bus drivers as well as the TheBus customers. Kalihi Transit Center is the transfer point for individuals who need to go to Waipahu, Liliha, Kalihi, Kahala Mall, and UH Manoa. I have only passed though the Kalihi Transit Center since I was riding TheBus coming from Pearl City and going towards Kalihi. Viewing from the bus I took notice that the transit center was very clean. It also gets crowded at certain designated areas. I do know that TheBus Pass Office is also located at the Kalihi Transit Center. Customers are able to purchase their yearly bus pass, disability bus pass, and even senior bus pass. That reminds me I should purchase a yearly bus pass instead of buying a monthly bus pass. 36/100

Kalihi Transit Center is very spacious and has a good amount of parking. I help my mom occasionally pick up a bus pass here. This place is well designed with bathrooms, an office where you can renew your bus pass or pick up a new one, and even pick up bus schedules. A great thing is that many different bus routes come here. You can catch any bus you need and eventually transfer to the one you need to be on to get where you need to go eventually. Workers are good at getting their job done and you're in and out in a reasonable amount of time.

Some observations on riding TheBus:…read more When entering a bus with more than half the seats filled, you might notice a natural human tendency for everyone to first take a seat all to themselves. As the bus continues to fill, another common sight is that a fairly large percentage of folks seem to be reserving the double seats for their own use, either by sitting on the aisle side of the seat, or by sitting on the inner side but seeming to block the aisle side with their belongings. Either way, this appears to signal that they're not inviting others to sit next to them. And most seasoned passengers seem to read these behaviors for what they appear to be. Some remain standing even when there are otherwise open aisle seats, making it difficult for newly boarding passengers to navigate around them, especially when those standing choose to do so while blocking the exits. Speaking of "exits," many or most buses have the type of rear doors with yellow strips on both sides, with some version of "Touch Here to Open Door." They also include an image of an open hand - seeming to mean you use your palms to push the doors open. On newer buses with the sensors still working properly, often you can use one finger to press on either yellow strip and the doors will open. But apparently because of abuse over time, for some doors you may need to use some force to cause the mechanism to work. Many ignore the yellow strips and the instructions and just attempt to push the doors open - which sometimes doesn't work at all - and then they may yell to the driver, "Back door!" My suggestion is to first wait for the green light over the exit doors to come on, then use your finger(s) to press on one of the yellow strips, but to smoothly switch to using more force, while still focusing on the yellow strips, if the mechanism has been desensitized. It should almost never be necessary to ignore the yellow strips and push on the doors themselves.

He gave us a treat and stopped on the side of the road somewhere near Haleiwa so we could take selfies with some horses that were grazing in the grass. Sounds funny but there were lots of horses. We were able to take more selfies along the way with beautiful ocean scenic views. Jacob knew just whee to go for that. Jacob is the best! An extra shout-out to our driver, Delson; he was an absolute gem. We rented the bus for four hours on a Saturday, and he was incredible at staying in touch and being exactly where we needed him throughout the night. He even circled back to multiple stops when a few people realized they'd left phones or purses on the bus. We didn't have a set route; everyone wrote down a bar, and we spun the wheel roulette-style, which made the night even more fun. We ended up extending the rental by another two hours and would've gone longer if road closures for the marathon hadn't cut us off. Highly recommend OPB and Delson for any group event! We will definitely be booking again.
