I scheduled to get a tattoo for each of my daughters (9 & 6 y/o) as a valentines gift. I messaged on IG and got a quick response and appointment. Unfortunately I had to make a lot of changes - day, time, location - and she was super understanding and accommodating. We did the session at my moms house by Ala Moana Shopping center. She explained everything she was doing, the process of how to treat and how it would look after. My mom and me ended up getting tattoos too! I would definitely recommend! Great prices and customer service! PS - my daughters were rock stars when their classmates saw the tattoos

Carolyn of Honolulu Henna is amazing. I fly to O'ahu every 6 to 8 weeks (live part-time) from Los Angeles to be with my mom and to get Carolyn's Jagua artwork on my body! My kids get their Jagua every year they come out with me. She creates her art free hand. I tell her a few elements I want to include then she is free to express herself. Love her.. if yo've always wanted a tattoo but have not quite determined what you want yet.. contact Carolyn! It last between 1-2.5 weeks. It was a month ago I saw Carolyn. She was GREAT. Her art is amazing and I enjoyed every minute of our conversation. She went into detail about henna and jengua, care instructions, what to expect while it was drying/ peeling. I really appreciated how specific she was and showed me pictures. These pictures are taken a week after being done (the fish is a bit faded due to pre shave exfoliation& everything shower). Such an easy going person with impressive art skills

Amazing was an understatement for Carolyn! We had her on our last day in Hawaii and we felt so blessed and thankful that we stumbled upon her. She made us feel so at ease and her customer service skills were so great. Moreover, her attention to detail was AMAZING! (I got the forearm tattoo) and she gave me exactly what I wanted. The conversations that came along with it was an amazing added bonus. My husband got the chest and arm tattoo and he told her what he wanted without actual visual representation, afterwards, it completely exceeded our expectations! If you're looking to get henna done, definitely do not pass up on getting it with her. I'd give her 10stars if I could!

If you're looking for an awesome Henna + Jagua artist in Oahu, check out Honolulu Henna! Carolyn is such a cool, down to earth person and made it such a nice experience. It's easy to make an appointment via her website or messaging her directly if you have questions. She doesn't have a shop currently, but she travels around to meet clients at hotels, etc for the session. I got the sun + moon design and incorporated the Chinese character "明" into it as well (since its in my Chinese name) and I love how it turned out! My friends got a really sick looking turtle and floral + mystical design for theirs. Overall we love how intricate and detailed the designs are and how she was able to captivate and bring our visions to life through her work. She was super helpful as well with explaining how to care for the Jagua and how the process works. Definitely recommend booking your next Henna + Jagua session with Carolyn the next time you're in Oahu

Look at this masterpiece! This is my first experience with Jagua and Carolyn made it such a memorable one. I sent her a rough draft of what I was looking to get, and she made it so much better. I message her through text and she gave me an estimate. So then we finalize an appointment date and met the following day. She is a traveling artist so that's pretty cool. After meeting, we discuss more in detail and finalize a price. During the process, we chatted and she told me some great info on what I should do and should avoid while I'm here. She is a perfectionist and I love all the details she had put in this design. She'll go over the aftercare process pretty throughly, so we know what to expect. The design came out beautiful and not going to lie, I wasn't sitting as still as I should be... but it still looks great! I definitely would come back and have her do more amazing designs on me. If you're here in the area, y'all should check her out for reals!

Love my henna tattoo! Carolyn was very friendly, social, and a great artist. She informed us well on the overall process. Easy to book and great communication. If you're thinking of getting a temp tattoo, the jagua (black blue ink) is a great idea. Highly recommend it :))

Carolyn was amazing to work with, she is so talented and through. She walked me through the process, and I let her design my tattoo and it exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for a temporary tattoo look no further! She is extremely easy to work with meeting you at your hotel, which is so convenient while on vacation. She will also be doing traditional tattoo's soon so keep that in mind while you consider making your temporary tattoo a permanent one :).

Later that evening (5hours later and no water) peeling and easily comes off. Notice the lighter image under the dry henna.

Carolyn is so talented and sweet. She is quick with her designs and amazing art is transformed before your eyes. (Not pictured is Maui hook) our son was so happy to have it placed in his leg. She texted me after I requested an appt and quote. She meet us at our hotel, so our family of 5 took turns, we were able to nap and have brunch. Please remember no water activities the day you get the henna placed AND it takes 24 hours for it to be dark and beautiful. Our henna tatoos lasted almost 2 weeks. My tatoo created a lovely reverse print from where it tanned on my upper arm so now I have a beautiful reminder of our trip.

All I can say is incredible! She is friendly, easy to talk to, and by far the most talented artist I've experienced! Her prices are reasonable, and she's willing to work with you to get you exactly what you want. Impressively, she free hands all her designs, and sends out positive, island vibes. Immediately, I felt she knew what she was doing and she completely defied my expectations once the final product was revealed. While some artists are specific to things such as faces/animals, foral designs, tribal prints, or symbols, she can do all of those and then some. My boyfriend walked out, elated, with a fierce lion on his fore arm, while I walked out with a whimsical and intricate floral design sweeping across my shoulder. Versatility at its finest! I wish I could rate higher than just 5 stars, just know that you are in good hands if you decide to drop by! read more

Carolyn is amazing! She replied in an hour and gave advice on where to park! She also did the tattoo exactly how I wanted it! The photo on the right is what I asked for and the left is my foot! Thank You Carolyn for participating in St. Francis School's Project Graduation on Monday night. You were such a hit with the graduates. Carolyn is AMAZING! I spontaneously wanted a henna one night, but wanted it on a Saturday after I got done with work. She doesn't do work on saturdays for events she goes to. She gave me a time frame the day of. I thought, why not. I had my appointment set for 9pm friday. She got back to me super fast. I got there, found flat rate parking down the road fron her studio. Walked in and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Carolyn, is super friendly, extremely kind and really wants to see forth your vision of what you want for your henna. I told her I wanted a dream catcher mandala. She brought forth the actual vision for my future tattoo. It turned out beautiful. Best part about it, is she's super reasonable on her pricing. She does an amazing job. If she were an actual tattoo artist, I'd give her my money in a heartbeat. I'd recommend her to everyone. She has such talent, I love her work. We found this little Jen when we were here two years ago and were so happy with all our henna that we made sure to come back and see her again this year! Very talented henna artist who was able to take all of our personal requests and turn them into beautiful artwork on our body! While Carolyn's storefront may be closed, she now comes to her customers which I find pretty convenient. My two boys wanted henna tattoos during our Hawaiian vacation and we chose Honolulu Henna. if you're looking for a place to get henna, this is it! Carolyn was so friendly, I was super indecisive on what I wanted except for a dolphin and she freehanded an amazing design! Her place was super cute and cozy, and very clean! I would hands down recommend this to anyone looking for henna while in Oahu, you can't go wrong! Wish I could say her henna is beautiful but the opportunity of having it done was stripped away from us. She kindly informed us that she would come to our location to do the henna since she previously had to close her shop, so we planned our whole day around being back at our hotel in time for our appointment. She asked us for parking instructions since it was valet parking so we gave her the instructions of the hotel - which was to ask them where to park. She ignored the instructions we gave her and for some reason refused to ask the front desk where to park, yet she never told us why she either didn't want to ask or didn't feel comfortable asking. She abruptly canceled our appointment and we were very disappointed while also questioning why someone would cancel after telling us she drove an hour to get to our hotel. She ignored all of our questions as to why she cancelled, but gave a pity story of how poor she is now due to covid. Doesn't make sense why you would turn away three customers and continue to complain about the little business you are getting! read more

If you're looking for amazing, custom, unique, and stunning henna or jagua you need to call Carolyn and have her create a masterpiece. My husband and I finally had the opportunity to have our wedding here in Hawaii. We decided that a barefoot beach/garden wedding would be great and that instead of shoes we would get our feet done with jagua. Well as some of you know Yelp gives us several options and reviews so it was difficult to decide on who to try. Needless to say, we are soooooooo thankful that we decided to go to Honolulu Henna. Now my husband and I are "older" with 5 children ranging from 1-18yrs in age. We weren't sure if anyone would be able to create different unique design for each of us or if we would all just have a generic design to choose from. Thankfully Carolyn is not only an amazing and creative artist; but her designs were also unique and fit each person perfectly. She took time to talk with each of us, get to know each of us, and design something unique for each of us.....STUNNING and unique designs! Carolyn was even able to put jagua on our infant daughters feet.....adorable. Carolyn is so kind, patient, creative, and professional. We left and felt like she was part of our family because of how well we all connected. She helped make our day amazing and we're so blessed to know such a beautiful and talented artist that will hopefully continue to create unique designs for years to come. read more

Carolyn is so great! She came to my hotel room to do my henna tattoo for my bday. She honored the Yelp deal which was great and even without the Yelp deal her prices are reasonable. She is very personable and such a great vibe. The henna she uses is organic and non toxic unlike certain types of henna. I picked out a design I saw on her Instagram and she ended up improvising off of it and it turned out way better than the original. If you want henna please go to her. read more

She did such a great job, if ever in Honolulu I recommend you go to Honolulu henna ! She super friendly and comes to your location ! Only sad thing is mine lasted about 4days , and most of it wore off . My friends is holding up better . If you get this done make sure you don't have plans for atleast 2.5 hrs to allow time to dry before washing off ! If I'm ever in Honolulu again and decide to get henna done il definitely go back !!! Had a wonderful experience working with Carolyn. I brought in a couple of ideas and we were able to create an awesome piece of art. Carolyn did an amazing job walking me through how to take care of the jagua (safe plant based that dries black - not the toxic one) henna with washing and moisturizing for longer lasting results. I received plenty of complements from everyone who sees it and they love it as much as I do. The prices are awesome and the quality of work is outstanding. Carolyn is truly a hidden gem in Honolulu with so much talent! I pretty much went in with an open mind and told her she could do whatever she wanted. I showed her some photos as a reference of what I like but ultimately let her do what she wanted within the price range I gave her. It was just so perfect for me and so beautifully done. I had a woman compliment my hand and say that it was the best henna she had ever seen on the island (she worked in one of the stores we were inside.) I 100% will be back to see Carolyn when I'm back on the island. If you're contemplating whether to do it or not, absolutely have it done by Honolulu Henna! read more

Carolyn did an amazing job on my 9 year old son's Jajua arm sleeve. She did it all free hand and it was everything he wanted and more. She was super friendly and welcoming. Her work was amazing and her prices were unbeatable. The place is very cozy and intimite, not out in the open on the street like most other Henna/Jagua artists we've seen. She even noticed that my son was suffering from a sunburn/heat rash on his shoulders and neck and offered him fresh aloe vera that she was growing on the porch!! This is above and beyond to me. You just don't find this kind of service anymore. We will definitely be visiting her again when we are back in town. read more

Carolyn is great, the place is a bit hidden but it's worth the trip. I got a big $45 dollar worth jagua stain piece in my right leg and it lasted 3 weeks until it started fading. Whenever I would shower I would try to avoid scrubbing the area rather I would just gently do a quick rub. I went back in at the 3rd week and got it traced again and only for half the price. I also took my 13 year old sister and my 64 year old grandmother. They loved their art and had some traced as well after the 3rd week. It's definitely an activity all ages enjoy and sort of a bonding experience. The artist is great, her designs were beautiful and very quick, I was surprised of the quality in such short time. She is also great at explaining how to take care of your stain and what the actual jagua consists of and why it is better than regular black henna. read more

She's super knowledgable about the three types of henna she does (classic, Jagua, and white) and explained to us all the after care we can do to keep our henna lasting as long as possible! They are right at the front, on the left. I wanted both henna and braids. The henna was done right away, and I had to come back for the braids about an hour and a half later, as the girl that did them was away. The henna is done by stencil mostly, not free hand, so the designs can be a bit basic, but they are still quality. They do take requests for elaboration on the stencil, which is nice. First they put a temporary tattoo on with paper, and trace over it with henna paste. Mine was done quickly and looked great. I was told I could wash it off in two hours, and the darkest result would show up in about 12 hours after the paste was washed off. The last time I got henna, I had to leave it on a lot longer. With this one, I still got great, dark results, but I did leave it on way more than two hours. The longer you leave it, the darker it gets. The braids are EXCELLENT quality. She charges by each braid if you are only getting a few, or you can get a price for a full head or half head. A whole entire head is about $100. I paid maybe $35 for 4 braids, that was including beads, which are extra. It's been like 3 days since I got the braids, and they are still perfect. They have been through showers, the ocean, beach, and more. The hair braider is so amazing. She is super gentle, too. I wish I got her name, because she is one of two girls. She is young, maybe late teens, early 20's and looks Hawaiian. As I saw her work, I wanted my whole head done, because she was doing such a good job. The only reason I didn't, is because I ran out of time. It's a little pricey for the henna (like $35 for the one on my shoulder), but hey, you're right on Waikiki Beach! They have to pay for that prime real estate rent. I was able to bargain a bit. Just work out a deal with them! It was totally worth it. Highly recommended!

Taking a leisurely stroll around Maunakea Marketplace (because I had free street parking on a Sunday) my friend and I paused in front of Instyle Hair & Nails because the place didn't look busy and I had some time. There were a couple of staff sitting outside, taking a break, so, I approached slowly and said, "Pedicure?" I was cheerfully greeted and shown to a massage chair. The nice gal, Deb, placed a new plastic liner in the basin and started the warm water. She asked if it was too hot and adjusted the temperature. She started to help me (telling me the difference in price between regular polish for $30 and gel polish which lasts longer for $45), but another customer asked for her, so she switched me off to someone else. It's okay because the new gal (didn't get her name) was very careful and thorough. She took her time and did a good job! I sat for a couple of hours because I haven't paid attention to my feet for months. Haha! (I'm kind of a last minute, busy person and will get moving if I can't stand it anymore.) Anyway, here are my observations: Greeting regular customers is a good sign! The four female workers were cheerful and kind to everyone, especially kupuna! The hair stylist asked (in a nice tone of voice) how a certain customer wanted her hair cut and told her that next time - don't cut your hair yourself because you can't see behind your head (she cut her hair to her scalp!). The hairstylist explained politely to the customer about her unique needs and showed her options on how to style her own hair! That's good service! Another example: A little girl came in with her mom. The staff treated them really well. The mom asked for gel polish for the daughter and the staff said they cannot do it because it might burn her daughter's young skin - plus, her fingers and nails are still growing, so, it's not a good idea to put strong chemicals on the area. Wow! That's being responsible and honest! I think I spent over two hours here because the technician paid attention to my dry cuticles, cracked nail, and other issues. She verified the color of gel polish two times before application. Thank you! I was just going to give four stars, but after hours of hard work, the worker still gave me a mini leg/foot massage and brief hot towel to wipe off excess lotion on my legs! She didn't use pumice stone on me (maybe I didn't need it), but she did repeat the acetone/cotton/foil treatment to the stubborn nails several times - instead of using the electric file technique. I appreciate the gentle approach and will most likely return on a future Sunday!

They did a great job on my daughter's hair first, cutting off all her dead ends and "thinning" out her hair since she has so much of it. They then did the same for me, mine was much shorter though. Since we both have very wavy hair, they took the time to straighten our hair to make sure it was even which took a lot of time for them. What an artist! Carolyn was in Minneapolis this past March and brought the magic of Hawaii with her. I knew I wanted her to do a black feather (raven medicine) but I didn't care what else she did- I trusted her talent. Simply put, she has a knack for intuition. Carolyn is down-to-earth and the essence of fun. Because of our kinship, I've asked her to decorate me for my wedding this August! Carolyn is an amazing artist and a very sweet person. She came to our hotel and not only touched up the henna my son had earlier in the week but gave him a tribal sea turtle too. She explained the process of taking care of it but also educated us on where henna and jagua come from, how to properly preserve it. Pretty easy to book an appointment. She came to the hotel and did henna for me and my wife. It was a simple script. The price was reasonable and for the quality of work -- which was awesome. Carolyn did my daughter's arm for her birthday, and she designed a most beautiful sleeve, and it looks amazing......still. She had it done over a week ago, and it still looks new. Carolyn was such a sweetheart and was super flexible with appointments. My sister and I wanted to come on a Saturday which is her off day but she was so nice as to accept us. I really loved her work. Super clean and it was pretty fast. She did an amazing job with mine and was super nice. She told me all the instructions what to do after and how to take care of it.
