Before flying home, I wanted some Polynesian tribal flow added to the scorpion I got more than 10 years ago. I asked for something slightly more feminine and not crazy bold... Neil freehanded this and even did it in a gray so it would be as bold in a stark black. I could not be happier with how it turned out! TLDR; I am extremely satisfied and glad I went to Jack at Suite Dreamz in Honolulu for the first two tattoos of my life. I'm from the Bay Area, California and could have gotten my first tattoos done at the numerous tattoo shops back at home but having had the work done by Jack, I am glad I decided to get it done in Hawaii. --- I've been wanting to get a tattoo on at least one of my arms for many years but have never committed to going. Alas, on this Oahu trip, I decided it was time. I came up with ideas of what I wanted and ended up wanting two for my "first tattoo". I was staying at Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki and wanted to find a place with good reviews within walking distance and a google search came up with a dozen or so places. I contacted Suite Dreamz because of their great reviews and the fact their few negative reviews were not due to the tattoo work itself -- but from people who didn't actually get tattoo work done through them. I shared what I was looking for and when I was hoping to get it done and the man over the phone suggested I come in for a consultation. Finding the place was a bit difficult at first because Google Maps leads you to the front of a hotel and it's a bit unclear if the place is in the hotel or what. Anyhow, once found, I noticed a display on the front window indicating that take cash only. Inside, the place was very well lit, clean and tidy, and quite spacious. I consulted with Jack (Pule) as he was available on the date I wanted to get the tattoos done. Consultation went fairly smoothly -- I shared with him one of the designs I conjured up (two golf clubs crossing to form an 'X' shape, surrounded by a banner with my two kids' names on it) and explained to him the second design (sea turtle surrounded by water pattern arm band). From that and asking about size of the tattoos, he gave me an approximate duration and price quote. With a $50 deposit (goes towards total price at the end), I had my appointment set. Jack also shared with my his instagram page that had a ton of photos of his work. I found a sea turtle design on his IG page that I really liked and had not seen in my numerous searches for sea turtle tattoo ideas on google so I texted him that I'd like to have a similar sea turtle for my tattoo. Jack was very responsive and that really helped reassure me of my choice to go with Jack and Suite Dreamz for my very first tattoo. Fast forward to the day of the appointment, Jack promptly greeted me as I arrived 8 minutes late, went over the two designs he sketched out for the two tattoos I was getting done so I can see the designs as well as sizes. Both designs and sizes were perfect. After signing waiver forms, he transferred the designs to my arms and was very meticulous and aligning the designs on my arms. He had me review the placement in the mirror and the inking began. As with the alignment of the design, Jack was very meticulous with the actual tattoo work itself. The tattoos on both arms came out very clean, clear, and with the perfect level of details and shading. He didn't try to rush through any portion of it and even turned down a walk-in customer who was hoping to get a small tattoo done that night -- respecting the fact he had reserved the multi-hour appointment for my tattoos. After weeks of research reading yelp and google reviews, also checking pictures of the artist work on IG, etc I choose this shop to get my first tattoo while in Honolulu. Neil was the best, I'm so glad I chose him to do my thigh band. I came to the shop on Monday and asked if I could book an appointment with him on Friday. I paid a deposit and was all set. Friday afternoon, I showed him an inspiration pic and told him what I wanted. He gave me his opinion, and let me know exactly what he would do. He made the experience so easy, and he's a bomb ass artist! He was hella cool, made good conversation and that def helped take my mind off the pain. I was expecting I would be in tears, but I barely felt it lol. The shop is clean, good environment, location was a little tricky, but I went to the hotel front desk and they showed me where the shop was on the side of the building (I literally walked past it 5 times). There is an ATM machine in the hotel lobby. He did my tattoo FREEHAND !! Bro is so dope. It took about 4 1/2 hours and cost was $525. Before I left Hawaii, I got so many compliments about my piece in the Airport and at the hotel. Overall great experience, 5 stars would definitely recommend. I plan on going back in a few months to get my tattoo touched up since I sucked at following the aftercare instructions.
