Located on a bluff above Eagle Harbor, there is ample outdoor seating to enjoy the massive expanse of water and sky. A curving set of wood and stone steps lead down to the water where one can barbeque, go kayaking, sit and relax, or walk on the beach. I saw an eagle swoop on some cormorants that were sitting out on a floating dais (they dove and easily escaped him). The view of Mt. Rainier from the beach is unique and if one walks down a ways one can see the Seattle skyline. The place is everything it is advertised to be: the windows overlook Eagle Harbor with the ferries coming and going, the kitchen is well equipped and the stove has gas burners, the bed is very comfortable, the television has more channels than I would ever watch, Wi Fi is free, the bathroom is clean and the showerhead is powerful. The owners were friendly and honored my privacy. Photographers, artists, birdwatchers, couples, small families, kayakers, an individual looking to relax - I could go on - will all find something here. I found true peace and quiet.

The owners live upstairs but I never heard/saw them, however, they make it very clear in the information they email you that should you need ANYTHING during your stay don't hesitate to just let them know. We were in room 25, with a gorgeous view of the Sound. We had two queens (haha, so very appropriate...!). The mattresses seemed new and were comfortable. The room was clean, the sheets fresh, the kitchen area clean and stocked with Keurig cups (well, that's a bit of a downer, but not their fault). The room was very nicely decorated with all kinds of quirky prints and hangings, making the room cheerful and fun. The TV was quite large (55" ?). The halls and other common areas were clean and well decorated, again cheerful and fun. The grounds include a parking area for RV's which was well organized, neat and tidy, with a couple green areas and some cabins on the North side, but that wasn't the main event... ! They have a very pretty little stream that even had a few flowers when we visited and which empties into the sound, where the estuarial mix of fresh and salt waters attracts birds (and fish? need to find out!). They have a small pebble beach with steps leading down where they said it is fine to launch a kayak or two! To the South there is a power plant outlet! My excitement might puzzle those of you who don't fish in Winter, but not only is it deep and fast running, but may be warm enough to attract fish. It, like everything else we saw about the waters, appeared clean and free of trash, as one might typically see nearby RV camping. And..., There are some lovely businesses nearby at HoodCanal. We had coffee there at a very nice little shop (HoodCanal Coffee, who'd have thunk it?) and then ventured next door to the little wine shop, which was FULL of curios, art, and so many lovely little things. The proprietress was wonderfully chatty and really helped fill us in on the area. And that leads us to the people... ! The nice lady running the hotel was out of the office (pro tip: there is a call button to the right of the office door that pages her, so just tap that), but popped up quickly. She was very friendly and, when we ran out of coffee creamer, which we mentioned in passing in the hall, she told me not to bother coming down the stairs to the office and that she would bring it right up, which she did. She also had more information on the local area that was very helpful. We were very pleasantly surprised and will certainly be back... with kayak(s)!

The owners, Sue and Scott, were friendly, respectful of our privacy, and very flexible and accommodating with regard to our arrival and departure times. When we arrived, we found a welcome basket with fresh fruit, muffins, bread, and chocolate! The fridge was also stocked with eggs, yogurt, and milk. It was lovely to be able to wake up in the morning and make breakfast in the kitchen without having to go to the grocery store first! The property itself is very scenic. We enjoyed visiting with the horse, and also loved the large vegetable garden! Sue and Scott gave us full access to the garden, and our second morning there, we picked shallots and kale from the garden to add to our scrambled eggs! We were fortunate to find this spot for our stay on Vashon Island (we were there for a wedding), and were so pleased!

My daughter has been to the Operation Xtreme summer camp for military children for the past two…read moreyears. She loves it so much! The area is beautiful and the experience is second to none. The price is fantastic as well, scaling with rank which makes sense. Seriously the experience starts from turning on to that dirt road. Counselors are spaced about on horses waving you in. While you are waiting in line for registration they call your kids over to pet the goats or chickens. Just so friendly! The cabins are very well maintained. Very clean and the cabin is very well insulated and not covered in spider webs or any other nonsense, I would sleep soundly in them. The views are pretty great too. Everything about this place is excellent. My kids look forward to coming back here. The camp experience is really nice, its the horseback riding centric theme. The other camp for younger groups and the older groups is dirt bike/off roading/atv centric I believe. For the younger children a day camp is there, so they get to come home at night, pretty normal for smaller kids you know? Anyways, this place is unique. Beautiful, and the only place I would trust to leave my children.
