Units include living areas, fireplaces, separate bedrooms, and kitchens, which can save on food costs during an extended stay, and there is a laundry machine and dryer. The grounds include a parking area for RV's which was well organized, neat and tidy, with a couple green areas and some cabins on the North side, but that wasn't the main event... ! They have a very pretty little stream that even had a few flowers when we visited and which empties into the sound, where the estuarial mix of fresh and salt waters attracts birds (and fish? need to find out!). They have a small pebble beach with steps leading down where they said it is fine to launch a kayak or two! To the South there is a power plant outlet! My excitement might puzzle those of you who don't fish in Winter, but not only is it deep and fast running, but may be warm enough to attract fish. It, like everything else we saw about the waters, appeared clean and free of trash, as one might typically see nearby RV camping. And..., There are some lovely businesses nearby at HoodCanal. We had coffee there at a very nice little shop (HoodCanal Coffee, who'd have thunk it?) and then ventured next door to the little wine shop, which was FULL of curios, art, and so many lovely little things. The proprietress was wonderfully chatty and really helped fill us in on the area. And that leads us to the people... ! The nice lady running the hotel was out of the office (pro tip: there is a call button to the right of the office door that pages her, so just tap that), but popped up quickly. She was very friendly and, when we ran out of coffee creamer, which we mentioned in passing in the hall, she told me not to bother coming down the stairs to the office and that she would bring it right up, which she did. Sure, the kids loved the deer in the yard as we drove up but it was the fully furnished (no need to over plan) simplicity of the trip - to me it was the lack of TV and cell phone coverage that sealed the deal (kids still recovering from that..lol). I could actually feel my blood pressure going down just looking at that gorgeous lake and surroundings. I understand this place is booked all summer - so we are booking our vacation while we still can.

My constructive feedback: most of the furniture on the property is very low, making it very difficult for my dad to sit down and stand up. It's surprising considering how many older folks stay with you. I was also surprised to learn quiet time doesn't begin until 11:00 pm. Perhaps that is due to the event spaces on site. However, an earlier quiet time would be a much better fit for the rest and relaxation most are there to enjoy.

The place was almost booked solid and had great reviews so we contacted the owner right away and sent back the contracts. The contract was confusing in that it listed a pre-authorization of $500 AND a deposit equivalent to the first night's stay. When my boyfriend emailed the owner back he asked him to please clarify these details BEFORE charging the card. Instead, the owner ran the card for the entire amount of the vacation (2 nights) and gave us no warning. He refused to answer any of our phone calls and we left messages, trying to call several times over few days. He then told us that instead of a deposit he required a full pre-payment, which we pointed out was nowhere in the contract explanation. He then told us he would refund us our money and that they required pre-payment, in a tone that implied we should know this to be the standard. This is not standard. In fact my best friend lives with us and is a hotel manager for a very well known, high-end boutique hotel. Some places require a full pre-payment, but they are few and far between. At this point we felt like we weren't happy with his reluctance to talk to us over the phone but the place looked beautiful so we told him to please go ahead and charge us again, because we really had our heart set on staying there. Instead, he told us he had no interest in renting to us any longer. I've never worked with someone who was so quick to take my money (our card was charged immediately after we replied with the paperwork) but was also so resistant to answering our questions. If that's the kind of business you want to support, go ahead...but I think our money will be better spent with business owners who actually appreciate our money and don't mind us asking for a few details before they charge us.

Our days were filled with hiking and kayak adventures! The resort offers clamming and crabbing (permits might apply). They even had a soda machine! There are several restaurants to choose from within 5 miles. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were knowledgeable about the area and gave recommendations on places to see. There was a bit of noise from traffic as we were close to the main road. But it always died down around 10 pm and didn't start up till late morning. The room we had was small but there were end tables with sufficient outlets, a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, a few cups and dishes along with everything needed for a cup of coffee in the morning. I had forgotten to bring my tea and was a bit disappointed that there were no tea bags in the room. But there was a grocery store not far down the road.. I could have used a few more hooks in the bathroom to hang wet towels or clothes. But other than that, it was an awesome stay!
