I needed engineering on a deck project for my place in Central Oregon. I met with Bill and he went…read morethe extra mile for me and did more calculations that I ever thought I would need.He knows his stuff and the results were what I was hoping for. I couldn't be happier with his work!

It seems like this post should start with a joke. Well . . . What happened when the patio heater…read morewas placed too close to a load-bearing wooden beam? I think you know the rest of the story. We burned a hole into our covered patio wooden beam and we weren't sure what to do. We contacted our contractor, and they said contact an engineer. I found Bill's organization online. BSM Engineering - talk about a professional organization. From the moment we started interacting through email correspondence to multiple telephone calls, to a final verdict on what to do next, Bill was the highest degree of professionalism. Throughout the whole thing, Bill guided me in the process and helped me to understand the complexity of the issues. Add a proverbial cherry to the top of this otherwise phenomenally smooth process; and guess what, Bill didn't charge us a thing. He did the whole thing pro bono. Talk about a phenomenal company. The highest degree of professionalism. The best customer service. An incredibly well trained and highly ethical engineer. What more could you want? I can't think of anything better. If you ever need an engineer, and I know this for certain as far as our engineer needs in the future are concerned, go with Bill and BSM Engineering. You will be 100% satisfied.

I do not recommend using this company for several reasons…read more First, they were very slow and not proactive in moving the project forward. I frequently had to follow up to get updates or any progress. Second, Randy initially gave my wife a quote to perform a private road compaction test, and we began moving forward with him based on that price. After two weeks with no progress, I called to check on the status. During that call, Randy doubled the original quote. He explained that the project would require significantly more work than he initially anticipated, including multiple soil compaction tests and a more detailed report. When I asked what the soil compaction testing would involve, he told me they would be using a machine that drives a rod into the ground to measure the force required in several locations. He also stated that the report would need to be much more detailed than originally expected. Because of the sudden increase in price, I became suspicious and asked to be onsite when his technician arrived. When the technician showed up, he simply took photos and dug a small section on the side of the road. There was no soil compaction testing equipment used as described. Three weeks later, I finally received the report, which was only one page long and essentially stated that the road was compacted and capable of supporting a fire truck. After receiving the invoice, I gave Randy an opportunity to adjust the price, since the additional work he described clearly did not occur. Ultimately, I paid the full amount, but based on my experience, I would strongly recommend choosing another company.

Randy responded quickly and was able to complete the report quickly and at a reasonable cost. Dylan did the field work and we had the report in our hands within a week. Very professional and helpful. After this unexpected remodel and damage was exposed we had a delay of several months to get on their schedule. When the project date arrived, they showed up on time, cleaned well after the demolition/addition of interior floors to allow drainage and a sump-pump. My original review (4 star due to not adjusting the cost when less product was used) they owned the mistake and recognized their communication gaps. I do appreciate that attention and feel more confident in the company. I look forward to many years of DRY basement/master bedroom living.

Living in a 30-year-old home for the past two decades we've had several phases of upgrades, but one…read morething has always been absent from a 10x10 slab on our back porch: a hot tub. So, this summer, we decided to move forward with the plan to be "soakin' for the holidays" three months away. The only thing standing in the way of that dream: the slab and its neighbor had sunk a few extra degrees, roughly three inches, at the far edge. We were going to need to shore up and permanently stabilize this slab if our hopes of the (3-ton when filled) tub were going to materialize. I made a quick call to Terra Firma and they had an estimator out within a few days. The pricing was reasonable and had the standard 50% up front 50% when complete-type contract. Casey arrived spot-on at 8:00am yesterday morning and began doing his magic (the process involves boring 1/2" holes through the slab, then using high pressure and heat to inject a molten expanding foam under the slab.) The foam is rated to support about 5 tons (10,000 pounds) per pound of foam material, and....100 pounds later that whole slab is back to following the prescribed slope perfectly, raising almost three inches on the sunken side. He did a great job and was a great rep for the company, explaining what little was left to explain. He kept me up on the status of the (4-hour) job as he went along--because our slabs had previously cracked, he had to gently lift it up in small sections so as to not have the sections separate further. Perfect job. 24 hours later and the patched holes have dried to almost-invisible (see photos). Unless you know what you're looking for, you can't even really see that repairs were made. Now I just need to fill in the pre-existing cracks with concrete patching caulk and we're ready to schedule the hot tub delivery! Yippee! Thanks Terra Firma!
